What is Daybreak app do on the Switch? All I know is that it's used to update the firmware. But why do I need to use it? Does it only update the emuMMC firmware? If I have 18.1.0 FW on my Stock Switch and if I use Daybreak does it update the emuMMC firmware to 21.0.0 and effectively giving me two firmware versions? Does that mean I can also change the firmware version to whichever I want and if I boot up into my stock Switch it's still 18.1.0?

Was thinking of getting a hacked Xbox 360, but there's less than 5 games I want to play on it, so I decided not to. Same with the Wii and WiiU. The games I want to play on there can be emulated so I'm okay.

Yeah, it has troon shit because of course the devs are mentally ill autists, but it works. You can even use the 3DS coins to buy some extra passes each day (10 in total per day IIRC).

My 3DS is on an old version of Luma and I'm scared that updating will brick it.

If it's really old, make sure you're booting with B9S first, and not A9LH. I recently updated mine to the latest Luma so I could run red-viper, and didn't even need to update the firmware.

Rec some wii games while I wait for my sdcard and controllers? And is there a way to use gc controllers as classic controllers when connected directly to the wii? Needing bluetooth sounds like insanity.
>>
>>550071934
Look on the bright side, Bravely Second also has a similar thing, so you can use netpass when you play that one kek

>>550101426
Depends. If you have a really old hack that uses A9LH, you'll need to upgrade to B9S. By "really old hack", I think it's something like Luma being on version 6. If it's version 7 or higher, it requires B9S.
From what I found online, there are a few ways to tell:
>if you have a boot.firm file in your SD, you're on B9S. If you have a file called arm9loaderhax.bin, you're on A9LH
>if you press select while turning the 3DS on, it should open the Luma settings menu. If it's version 6 or lower, you're probably on A9LH. If it's version 7 or higher, Luma requires B9S
That said, look around online to make sure when you're checking the version, I literally just clicked the first result that seemed more relevant.
If you're on A9LH, follow https://3ds.hacks.guide/a9lh-to-b9s.html to upgrade to B9S.
If you're already on B9S, you just need to update Luma by either manually copy/pasting the boot.firm file to the SD root (go to Luma's github to get the file), or using something like Universal Updater, and then you can update the console firmware without worry.
Bonus spoonfeed: if you happen to update the console before updating Luma, you won't be able to turn it on (or it turns on but only shows an empty menu like the console's new, don't remember exactly ATM). To fix it, just manually update Luma's boot.firm file on the SD.

no
It has like, 2 games on it. Both of which got ported to the Switch because they ran like shit on the N3DS. I've also seen load time comparisons. N3DS is only ~14% faster (20s on the N3ds vs 23 on the O3DS). I don't care about bigger screens.
>same with the vita and preferring the first OLED model instead of the later models

Most Vita stuff can be played on other consoles (either cross releases with PS4 or multiplat games). It's really good if you're into VNs, but other than that, the worth of most of the games that are still stuck on it depend on personal taste.
3DS has a good number of things stuck on it due to the dual screen stuff, plus it can natively run NDS games (flashcart or ndsbootstrap) and GB/A games (VC injection or agb_open_firm).

>>550132878
>It has like, 2 games on it.
Sure, but since the N3DS is about 3 times more powerful than the original, even if you don't care about the load times, it helps with framerate stability on non-N3DS exclusive games. Not to mention that Luma (the CFW) can force the N3DS to use the full speed on all games instead of "capping" itself to O3DS speeds on the games that weren't updated to use the extra power. The extra speed also makes for better emulation, especially for stuff like SNES.
On that note, the 3DS is actually a bit better to emulate nintendo stuff, the Vita struggles a bit more even with GBA
>"I don't care about emulating on the 3DS"
Then go for the O3DS, just be sure that you won't regret it later.
Something I almost forgot, if you care about the extra amiibo stuff that some games have, the N3DS has a built-in NFC reader, so you can just get something like the Allmiibo and use it directly. For the O3DS you also need to buy the NFC accessory separately.

I want to buy a 3ds also, but everywhere I look the screens are yellowing. I could probably replace them but I don't know if they make aftermarket parts for them.

I think I messed up somewhere. I was following a guide on how to do a fresh install.
>download fw (thzoria github (latest is fine, 18.1.0 for more sysmodule memory and no bt/battery bugs))
>update fw using daybreak (incuded in atmos(choose fat32+exfat))
I never had to do these two. Am I okay?
I was following an 'official' guide but they didn't want any piracy so they left the part out about sig/syspatches. Instead I followed some indian on YouTube and just downloaded his all-in-one zip file that had hekate, atmosphere and patches in it already. It was also not updated, it's using the second to last version of both. I don't really know where to find 'legit' patches and where I put it on my SD card. Where can I find sigpatches and where do I put it?
>>
>>550144562
no need to update fw if you're on >18.1.0, if you have a game you can't run on your version you can patch it using SAK
>patches
I literally mentioned in the post you quoted where to get them (google sys-patch gbatemp and find the newest file).
You should always get the latest hax files from their original sources (the githubs mentioned, or gbatemp posts) and never use packs or pre-built stuff as you do not know what's in them or what version they're on.

I got the newest patch, so do I just copy and paste everything and replace all duplicate files? The file I found in gbatemp has atmosphere files in it already.
>>
>>550147068
yeh just overwrite
>atmos files
they're not the files that atmosphere uses to run, or the atmos files themselves. The way things work is that certain mods, patches, cheats or similar stuff goes inside the atmosphere folder (and subfolders) but it's not atmosphere itself what you're placing onto your sd card.
The folder structure just comes that way so you copy over everything to your root, and avoid having to find the specific folder(s) you have to place the files in
>>
>>550147659
Okay. I was just worried that it had duplicate files.
I read somewhere that the official Atmosphere files don't have patches applied to them, so when I copy-pasted this it was asking me to replace files. Was confused as to why.
I'll probably start over and nuke my SD card, someday. The all-in-one zip file was nice since I didn't have to do extra steps (i don't even know if exosphere is installed properly and I don't know how to do it).
>>
>>550148592
You can sort of treat hax by layers. First is Hekate so you can boot into something before the official OS.
Then there is Atmosphere on top of that, which is just the official OS but custom made to enable homebrew.
If you do not consider piracy, the last layer would be mods and cheats for games, this goes on top of of the custom OS (atmos loads these files).
If you do consider piracy, then patches are an extra layer on top of atmos, and then on top of that comes mods and stuff, so it can be applied to pirated games too.
Applying the next layer shouldn't replace any files from the previous layer (if setting up from scratch), as they're each their own thing.
If you are updating hax files, then you will always have files to overwrite, as you are deleting the old stuff to place the new stuff
>>
>>550149197
Okay, now how do I get exosphere working? Or is it on by default?
>>
>>550151817
what do you need it for? it's part of atmosphere and you get it (and install it) when you copy the atmos files to your sd card. If a guide somewhere tells you to modify it, you shouldn't unless you know the exact reason for doing it.

Also this section was on the rentry guide:
>Something to note about NAND backups is that they can be compressed (with any file archiver like WinRar or 7-Zip) down to ca. 600MB (from the usual 29.1GiB/32GB) depending on what was on the internal storage of your Switch at the time of the backup (stuff that was on the internal storage but later removed/deleted also count).
But no matter what option I use to compress my backup it's still 29GB. After getting my used Switch and getting through the initialization I installed YouTube then backed it up. Tried compressing it and it was still huge.
>>
>>550161323
that low size only works if the switch is absolutely brand new, as the guide says even stuff that was there and later deleted will inflate the compressed size
>>
>>550160732
just use incognito and/or 90dns
for prodinfo blanking, I use NxNandManager. Just load your emunand from your sd there and hit the incognito button
>>
One more question before I leave and make dinner.
If I want to start all over can I just remove the SD card and reformat it and start all over again
OR
Do I still need to use my NAND backup? I have not done ANYTHING in my official firmware and everything was done on the EmuMMC.

yeah you can just nuke it and start over.
The backup is good if you mess with sysnand, but you're not so it's fine (don't delete it though).
This is how your sd card should look like after nuking and installing just the bare minimum and sigpatches. If you have more stuff it's probably from a pack or additional homebrew
>>
>>550164175

if you're sure it never went online then you can only fix it by restoring your nand backup, that you surely made when you hacked it. DBI with MTP is the best way as it doesn't require installing any driver or program on your pc, the only downside is that its developer is nuts. Luckily everything works in the last "proper" english version he made, even if it's like a year old now, so just get that one (a copy is linked here >>550026462 )

NTA but maybe. I think some stuff needed a normal internet connection instead of using Street/SpotPass.
That said, I don't know if Pretendo works with the Bravely games already. It's not mentioned on their site, so I'd assume not, but with some luck it might "just werk" without much issue, I guess you could try it and see.

Finished Majora's Mask on GameCube. I count 8 crashes - 5 after saving, and 3 during gameplay. It actually didn't feel that bad but maybe I got lucky. Is this playable? Yes if you get lucky too, but if you can play the version you want on any other platform, I recommend that instead. Here's my favorite screenshot just because.

I am still in 9.0.0 so I don't need the BD but when I eventually update I'll just buy my own.
Just because I also plan on backing up some stuff on BluRay disks so I have other uses for it. If it's a one time thing then don't buy one. Or you could, use it once, then return it. But that's kinda a dick move.

Ok i think i figured out my issue. If you have no games installed, applet installs may fuck up quite frequently. So the solution was to grab the smallest nsp of a backed up game i own and install that, then use it to launch normal awoo
>>
>>550569673
Yeah, this should be included in the rentry guide. I didn't want to connect to the internet to get an app so I can escape applet mode. So I was stuck. First I removed my SD card and all traces of the CFW install. Then I installed YouTube from the eShop. Then I restarted installing everything again.
Unfortunately 4chan guides are outdated and incomplete. I tend to follow reddit guides since it's a lot more thorough.

I remember years ago that taking a hacked Switch online would fuck games up, requiring them to be updated even though the latest update was installed, along with other Nintendo bullshit going on. Is that a non problem anymore? I've always kept mine offline because of that, but having to use a cable and undock every time I want to do something minimal is pissing me off.
I also remember custom themes making it so CFW wouldn't launch on a new update. Is that also a non problem anymore?

£130 for the normal and £170 on CeX, wtf you on about?
also, it's all praise but I have a 3DSXL and the fact agb_firm doesn't have suspend support, retroarch is dogshit, getting a good screen is like lottery, GBC games display is better on DS, TWL++ still crashes sometimes during suspend and takes some time to boot and exit from it plus the battery not being as good as it was (sure, you could do the mod like I did on my SP) makes it a sub-optimal console. you might as well get an emulation device which is faster and will play even more consoles, android and PC games. either that or a Switch Lite and shove Retroarch in it or a normal Switch if you want dock support. I checked the other day and it fits just fine inside my fanny pack, which has been popular among young people for a few years now. bonus points if you carry a 90s leather one like I do since the material stretches a bit and makes it less bulky
>>
>>550604212
Sorry I should've differentiated and said new 3ds. Im just appalled that an older console has appreciated in value over the years when I could've gotten it for a fraction of its msrp prior to 2020. I shouldn't be surprised in this clown world though!
Was only looking at the new 3ds cause my old 3ds xl has been collecting dust ever since the top screen got this weird lcd leakage and am too scared too buy parts and crack it open given its the top screen.
>you might as well get an emulation device which is faster
See id do that but not all games run great on emulator for the 3ds yet. Art academy is terrible on emulators.
>>
>>550605331
£210 on CeX, £140 in ebay. Pretty sure the New 2DS is the same but without the 3D, so will be cheaper.
But think, do you REALLY NEED it? Do you really go out and spend down time outside? If not then it's not worth buying. Hence why I gave up on the idea of buying an emulation handheld.
>>
>>550606996

So I am still below 20.0.0 on my Switch as I noticed incidentally that Nintendo changed something and there is less memory available after that for Atmosphere.

Now, that I'm on vacation I would like to install Hades 2 and Silksong. I am not using any mods on my Switch, so it shouldn't affect me anyway, but since I'm only upgrading emuNAND, sysNAND shouldn't be affected anyway and I could simply downgrade again just in case a need arises. Is this correct?

Update only the emunand using daybreak (see >>550026462) and your sysnand will stay intact. You can always make a new emunand with the older fw your sysnand is on, yes.
>backporting
iirc some anon said silksong can't be backported to versions <20.X, but got it to work I think on 20.1.0. All other games should work fine though. For SAK you'll also need the latest keys the game needs which I can't find yet publicly online so I haven't posted that yet

Thanks a lot, guys.

I'm on 21.0.0 from 19.0.0 now, installed the games and replaced the few .nro files I had.

It's nice to know I could go back if I would ever need to, probably will not happen.

I just use the HATS pack.
