I played the 2017 version of HNG downloaded from Discord for the first time in a while, but it felt far from complete – rather inconvenient or lacking in various ways. There was no stamina bar, the bipod that should be usable when crouching or near cover with the MG42 or other machine guns was absent, and you couldn't respawn immediately.

The community says they're working on reviving the 2023 version, but will that 2023 version actually be the same one we all knew and loved?

I played H&G and used to love playing armour. I didn't use it to grief infantry but to hunt other armour. Anyway - the damage model update completely ruined the armour game. It was well intentioned and in principle a detailed model with critical components etc and penetration calculations - they're all good ideas - but the implementation and UI aspects associated with it were awful and I think many are of the opinion that this had a long lasting negative impact on the game.

I can't remember when it was introduced exactly, but I see that there are 2014, 2017 and 2023 fan-based versions of the game being worked on. It strikes me as a great opportunity to undo or improve on the damage model implementation.

Any thoughts?

I haven't played this game in literal years but I want to play it again since it's so much fun. Of the times this past few months I've tried to play the game it's just stuck at a blank screen with the words "DOWNLOADING SETTINGS FILE." What the hell does this mean and is there anything I can manually do about it.

not worried if they cost money or not, I liked this games unique gameplay style and was wondering if there's any games that get close to it

The entire point of the movement is to make sure no other game ends up like HnG did, shut down and unplayable.

Yeah so like I used to play this ages ago and sadly I missed the shutdown in 2023 but I remember loving this game, playing it from 2016 up to 2022. Is there any community that is keeping the game alive?

the bots dont have to be good or anything, they just have to be there to be fodder (taking points, moving to objectives, suppressive fire).

this makes the fps game feel more massive and feel like an actual war instead of insurgency sandstorm with big maps and large spaces.

imagine 20 players on a team + 10 bots. it'll be closer to rising storm that way

I had a few matches where people abused ap mines really bad. They are now of course free to use, they used to cost like 1k credits / use. Last night I had a game where there were like 20 mines on one of the capture points. I think they should be restricted to recons to make the game experience better. This will only get worse once people realize this.

I played this game a lot before it was abandoned. I've been closely following the recent developments to bring back this amazong game. Issue is that I played on asian servers and don't think asian servers are live yet? Will they be in the future? I really want to once again fight with my tanks.

It may not have looked the best but it sure had some of my favorite moments in any multiplayer shooter. Nothing quite like landing in a field for your pal to take your top tier plane, or who remembers being a rear gunner!? I hope we can all experience it again just like the old days..

It has recently come to my attention that 32-bit physx which hng uses is not supported by the newest nvidia cards. I was hoping someone with one of those cards could test to see if the game runs, if so how it performs. Thank you!

I remember when grinding up as a new player and being ecstatic when capturing an enemy's OP weapon. (I usually died shortly afterwards, but it was glorious for that short period of time.) This post from reminded me of it:

What are the original developers doing right now? Another game? Enjoying money they scammed out of people for H&G 2? Disbanded?

What made me "tick" back in HnG was, that you were fighting on the War Map as part of a big team, your faction, fighting for something bigger and that you could even influence it to a limited degree as a solo player.

Is there ANY alive shooter out there that offers something like what HnG offered? Or is it still the same, that HnG was sadly unique and we'll have to wait for somehow one of the revival projects managing to revive and succesfully host Warmode or for Warbound to do the same?

I would like to know hows hng going? I'm a big fan of this game any information about the game is thankful because I can't move on to other games for many reasons but the biggest problem is my laptop is dogshit I try download and play enlisted not so long ago but guess what? My fps drops to 0.9 at minimum graphics

Back in the day when captured weapons was released I had the brilliant idea to swap my main infantry guy to Para, grind out the FG42 and then swap back, it was so magical when that shit worked, I felt like the cool kid on the playground on infantry lmao. I just want to capture that feeling again.

The HG 2017 Alpha is currently in closed testing and not open to the public at this time.

Access is limited, and announcements are usually made through our HG Beta Discord Community by myself, my Staff Team, or hamstaman, the developer behind the 2017 Alpha.

Regarding questions around access:

The HG 2017 Alpha is a solo project by hamstaman, and only hamstaman and I currently have Admin access to create accounts or provide testing tokens.

Please avoid messaging Noanjo or his team about access, as they are focused on the HG 2023 project, which is a separate development.

We understand it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of everything happening behind the scenes. To summarize:

Both HG 2017 Alpha and HG 2023 are actively being developed.

Every few months I have the thought that I want to play it, but then I get violently angry when I realize its all gone. The revivals don't capture the same feeling.

I miss this game so much. I wonder if there is a way to play it. I'm searching news but all the news i found was 2yrs ago. Also I'm trying to find similar game but thier all not like this game. I tried hell let loose I'm desapointed I'll try battlefield V but i dont think it will fill the gap from what i see in video gameplays.

It is 2025 and I still miss playing H&G. I've been sitting for an hour now staring at my games on Steam and wondering what I feel like playing and all I wanna do is take my Karabiner and snipe some fools. There will never be a game I could play both seriously and casually like this. I really miss it!

would the mechanics even translate well? like how would unlocking items work for example, would some of the grind just be removed?

Hi 😄 I'm trying to play Heroes & Generals with the 2014 beta as a multiplayer. My launcher starts, I log in, I choose the server, the launcher does not turn on the game. I took care of everything according to the official instructions from the Discord creators. I reinstalled the game, removed junk from the computer from the registry and temporary, tried on another computer and the same, firewall disabled like antivirus, any settings from Windows for security. Can you help?

I've played Heroes and Generals when it was active but now I don't know how I am going to make more interest for it.

Some context: I played Heroes and Generals back in the day when I was active under the username Ricard2015, but the first expirence I had with H&G was on Boaty's account with permission, even pranked them once in H&G. I really liked it since it basically was a shooter like GMod but more realistic and less annoying most of the time. After the shutdown of H&G, I basically forgot about the game, just downloading the singleplayer version a few months ago.

Main problem: I've no motavation to download and play the multiplayer or singleplayer version since I'm uncertain about two major things, which are:

1. How to download the multiplayer version and how I can make it function. I'm not that computor savy so I don't know how to do it.

2. The community. I don't know how the main community is, though I'm guessing that it's pretty good.

Can anyone give me some motavation about Heroes and Generals?
