今回は海外版のタイトル名のエピソードを
Klonoa Chronicles #21! This time, we’re going to have an episode about the title name of the overseas version.
海外版のクロノアのタイトルについて、海外販社であるナムコアメリカに伺いを立てた時の事です。開発からの提案では「ＣＬＯＮＯＡ」でした。 ところが販社から意外な返事が届いたのです
This is when I asked Namco America, the overseas sales company, about the title of the overseas version of Klonoa. The development team proposed “CLONOA”. However, we received an unexpected reply from the company.
「ＣＬＯＮＯＡ」だと「クラミジアと勘違いしてしまう」と言ってきたのです。 クラミジアとは性器に発症する細菌性の感染症のことです。 自分達のゲームがそんな病気と勘違いされてもいいのか？ と言ってきたのです！ ハァ？ そんな風に勘違いする奴いるか？
They told me that “CLONOA” could be mistaken for chlamydia. Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that affects the genitals. “Do you really want your game to be mistaken for such a disease?” I said to him, “Huh? Who would mistake it for something like that?”
クロノアがプレイヤーの分身、つまりクローン（ＣＬＯＮＥ）だということからこういうスペルにしていたんです。 しかし販社からは「ＫＬＯＮＯＡ」にしろと言ってきました。
We spelled it like this because Klonoa is the player’s alter ego, or CLONE. However, the sales company insisted that we use “KLONOA”.
いくら説得しても聞いてくれないので、最後は現地の意見を尊重し、今のスペルになりました。 だから私のツイッターのアカウント名 @yoshi_clonoa はせめてもの抵抗なんです。 つづく
No matter how much I tried to persuade them, they wouldn’t listen to me, so in the end I respected the local opinion and went with the current spelling. This is why my Twitter account name @yoshi_clonoa is spelt the way it is. To be continued.
