Time to find a new backup browser
>Third: Firefox will grow from a browser into a broader ecosystem of trusted software. Firefox will remain our anchor. It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions.

They already conceded that their strategy moving forward is going to be full transparency on the use of AI, the how and where, including how to turn it off and ensuring every user is capable of turning it completely off if they want to.

Basically, they're playing the AI bullshit bingo game to mooch investor money, and nothing else.

>>
>>107570442
Why does everyone hate AI so much though?
I know it will be a terrible implementation but if they could just do it right then think of the potential time savings.

Imagine you want to buy a concert ticket and instead of constantly refreshing the page and having to navigate the shitty UI you could just have an AI agent sitting in the browser do it for you.
>>
>>107576251
>terrible implementation
there's your answer
>>
>>107576251
How retarded are you that this is needed for you to buy a concert ticket
>>
>>107576286
The point is not are you intelligent enough to do that yourself, it's having an artificially intelligent agent do it for you so you don't have to. You could be asleep in bed with your browser tab open and it'll dutifully work for you.

They'll never implement anything actually useful like that though.

>>107576297
It does not take much time to buy a ticket to a concert. There is no use case where I need my browser to do it for me. This example is incredibly stupid, and it's good example of why I dislike AI shills so much. You people create solutions to things that weren't even a problem in the first place, and then you claim you've optimized some mystical convenience out of nothing. It's genuinely retarded. These companies are selling a fucking grift that does little to nothing, and they market it to people who are so fucking retarded that the concept of doing something that takes a minute is suddenly some grand inconvenience for a data center to do for them.
>>

>>
>>107576419
It's just evolution.

People used to queue outside box offices for tickets and now we buy them online. In the future you will be able to just ask an AI agent to get you tickets and it will go and do it without you having to even lift a finger but it won't be a Mozilla AI to bring about that change.

No doubt because OG firefox can't do that either, because why would you import bookmarks from yourself.
And people are saying these people would be able to just take over development of the engine if Mozilla goes belly-up. Laughable.

80% of mozilla's income comes from google deals.
It literally doesn't matter what legal character they have, if they want to keep running they have to obey whatever diktat they receive, and google wants them to push gemini.
>>
>>107590546
No. It's worth that much because it's an exclusive deal. There can only be one default search engine. If Google would offer less, or stopped paying them, another search engine would rise up and pay them good money instead. It'd be less, but not by orders of magnitude.
>>

Google will never offer less.

Don't you realize that a default search engine is literally a keylogger?
Everything you type into the url or search bar is sent to google to offer you autocomplete suggestions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox_early_version_history

Firefox2
On October 24, 2006, Mozilla released Firefox 2. This version included updates to the tabbed browsing environment, the extensions manager, the GUI (graphical user interface), and the find, search and software update engines. It also implemented a new session restore feature, inline spell checking, and an anti-phishing feature which was implemented by Google as an extension[13][14] and later merged into the program itself.[15] In December 2007, Firefox Live Chat was launched. It allowed users to ask volunteers questions through a system powered by Jive Software, with guaranteed hours of operation and the possibility of help after hours.[16]

Usually zoom zooms do this when they search for "reddit meme frog" on google images. Then they save the image preview which only shows the first frame of a gif instead of going to the source page and downloading the whole animation. It's because zoom zooms unfortunately don't understand that an image format even is, let alone which one does what.

One thing I've learned from being a sole proprietor MSP, is that virtually all non-profits are desperately trying to make a profit. The amount of 'book cooking' going on at these places is insane too. Doesn't matter if it's a church, synagogue, temple, mosque, children's charity etc... Non-profit = License to exploit as many loopholes in the system as possible. Pretty cool if you ask me.

>>
>>107576565
Brave is 75% good. It has it's issues. The included ad blocking feature is so-so. It's hard to use to block things manually. Their updates break more things than they fix. Most importantly you have to shut off A LOT OF FUCKING SWITCHES in the settings to get it unspammy and un-brave. In other words, to get it to work like it should out of the box without using it's really shitty services by default.

It sounds like I'm thrashing it but it's been my daily driver for years now. At one point I uninstalled Firefox mobile because you can't export bookmarks. At least you can do that in Brave though for about 7 months it was broken. It's working again now thankfully.

Anyhow I reinstalled firefox mobile just to have a backup browser other than Chrome to open the sites that don't work in Brave.

TL;DR Brave is so-so. About a 75% rating once you spend a while shutting bullshit off. Then it's Okay until the next update which breaks shit.

I'll tell you the real reason: Back in the day we had an W3C that defined actual standards for the web. Now we have a W3C bought off by google and chrome is the "living standard".

In other words. You can't develop a browser engine now without constantly chasing your tail and following whatever google decided to barf out this week.

I get that, but current opera is based on Chromium version 141 whereas Chrome is based on Chromium version 145... which implies quite strongly that Opera devs are just doing a Forward Integration of Chromium to Opera code base followed by extensive gutting, defanging, and then using Chromium as a backward compatible foundation.

I personally DO NOT USE OR LIKE CHROME and yet I can tolerate Opera. I also use Firefox pretty much for the dev tools or when booted into Linux.

CEOs have to justify their job and so have a unusually strong perverse incentive to be performative. AI is a hype train that spells money for performative opportunists. Worse still, the candidates who have the most convincing performative behavior are the most likely to convince companies to hire them as CEO. The entire employment-into-CEO mechanism selects for extremely bad executives

I can suggest a browser that has the potential to impact the future:

Firefox + AI

this browser combines mozilla's famous browser firefox, which allows you to browse the web, with the addition of AI(Artificial Intelligence). By including AI in the browser, it symbolizes the increasing role of artificial intelligence in shaping and transforming our future. This combination highlights the potential for AI to unlock new forms of irritation, enhance spam, and revolutionize various fields such as memes, scamming, and pornography.
