Note:
To better understand the difference between versions 1.0/1.1 and 2.0/2.1:
Version 1.1/1.0 - has no neighboring islands with all resources located in the starter chest. This may be preferred for those that want to play a more quick experience of Skyblock.
Version 2.1/1.0 - has a Sand Island and the Nether which contains a Glowstone Island. The resources are spread out compared to the majority of resources being located in its starter chest on 1.0/1.1. Version 2.1 may be preferred for those that want to play the most recognizable and iconic version of Skyblock.
The versions specific to 1.0 and 2.0 is simply the fact that the island is more cube shaped compared to L-shaped and has 3x less dirt and sand blocks, to create more of a difficult challenge.
The chest contents are the same of 1.0 as 1.1 and 2.0 as 2.1.
If you wish you may skip the challenges you completed in 1.0/1.1

Click the spoiler below for more info and an update as of December 12th, 2025, thanks to Eider!
With the popularity of Eider's video, i've received a surge of messages and emails about unknown details and whether any files still exist from the very first versions of Skyblock.
The basis of Eider's video was to uncover the earliest 1.0 version of Skyblock and to determine the original chest contents from the oldschool version that had a sand layer. But what he ended up finding was a screenshot of Skyblock that I haven't seen in around 14 years. It's vastly different from what most players know today, and I wanted to provide some information on a few things that Eider was questioning.
It's amazing how much effort Eider put into uncovering some of the earliest information about Skyblock. It was interesting to watch and brought back some great nostalgia for when I was a kid set out on this idea.
Thanks everyone for the continued love for Skyblock!

Note: Removing the block that you spawned on, and not placing a block back (So if there is no block on your spawn point) then dieing may spawn you elsewhere as it is too small to pick a spawn close by. So it will spawn you on the mainland, and it will be impossible to get back. Be careful! (This problem is fixed for the versions that are above this spoiler.)

If for some reason you are tired of your water turning into ice and don't know how to place a torch next to your water source, you can switch the snow biome to a non snow biome.
Download the level.dat that corresponds with the version of SkyBlock you are playing, and replace it.
Note: You will have to skip challenge #32.
Make sure you replace the level.dat before you start the map, or place everything that is in your inventory in a chest. If you do not do so, your items in your inventory will be gone.
Read the title of each spoiler. View the contents of a spoiler to answer your questions. Not everything will be here, as this map is meant to be a challenge, so not everything can be answered.

"How do I keep my water from re-freezing?"
This is a very simple fix. To stop your water from re-freezing, as this is in a Tundra (snow) biome, simply place a block above your water source, or a torch next to the source. There are alternative downloads for the level.dat file, but this will eliminate a challenge and therefore you can't complete them all.
This is very simple to do, but it may take a few tries. The basic idea is to get your lava to light a piece of wood or something else flammable, and have the fire spread through the portal frame so it ignites, therefore activating it.
Step-by-step guide by iiTzWho
How to light the portal without Flint & Steel
It is actually really easy, if the wood burns out before it lights, try again
The rest will be in spoilers, each step in a separate spoiler
Go to the Nether (with guide above) and make a platform there for zombie pigmen to spawn on. Kill them for gold nuggets. Once you have 9 gold nuggets, place them in a crafting table in a 3x3 fashion, which creates one gold ingot.
It's been over 14 years since I made this little post, and Skyblock has changed my life forever. I greatly appreciate the Minecraft community for enjoying Skyblock and finding interest in this small idea that exploded into what is known today.
My main goal of Skyblock in the very beginning was to make the smallest and most difficult world possible, using a lot of strategic and minimalistic ideas. I wasn't good at building and was incapable of doing anything impressive when I first made this world, it was nothing in comparison to the extensive and massive builds that made up the most prominent Minecraft maps at the time. I honestly didn't think players would like Skyblock this much. I thought people would think it was a joke, and I never expected it to be beloved by the Minecraft community all these years later. It has changed my life forever, and I just want to say thank you so much.
I was not aware this post was still something players used, therefore it was largely unedited for years. To keep to its nostalgia, I have left much of this post the same as it was, so do excuse my bad grammar for when I wrote this when I was a kid.

It's kinda difficult to make a forest, a wheat farm, and a reed farm with only 9 pieces of dirt (8 for me since 1 fell into the void). Would it be possible to add a way to get more dirt? And possibly more sand?
Edit: Figured it out. Remove the dirt after the tree grows
Btw: The feathers are useless without a way to get flint.
Yeh, any ideas on how I can add more dirt and sand? Cobble stone/stone you can make with water and lava. and such should I just add sand and dirt to the chest?

Maybe 1-4 blocks of dirt in the chest would be nice. Any more and they would be used mostly as platform blocks. It is posssible to complete all of the challenges with the provided blocks. Just some of them not very well.
This looks like fun! I'm off to see how I do, and perhaps post some pics when I've accomplished a fair bit. Definitely going to start on peaceful though. I don't want to imagine the destruction a creeper could cause on this island :tongue.gif:

From the "cobblestone generator" I came up with an idea for an SMP auto-cobble factory. :biggrin.gif:

Everyone reading this topic has to try this map.. you wouldn't believe how much fun it is making a cobblestone generator on a precarious little platform of dirt! Very fun map for something so simple. It also made me realize how quickly you can multiply the blocks that you have.
The only real problem was that you had a limited amount of sand, dirt and ores. My suggestion would be to put more different blocks into the platform. Or maybe another island to get to?
Again, great idea for a map can't wait to see more variations :biggrin.gif:
I don't know how to hide the picture so I'll post the link for anyone to see what I did for the cobblestone generator. http://i55.tinypic.com/25g44mx.png

In 1.1 I added some more dirt and sand.
I was thinking of adding some more islands for 1.2 or something like that. :ohmy.gif:
THANK YOU for your feedback, it helps :wink.gif:
Version 1.1 was a lot of fun. It was a challenge getting the dirt out from the bottom to make a generator. Here's a picture of my beautiful sky island.
Overall, I'd have to give this map 10/10.
It was challenging, but not impossible. I also have never seen anything like this map, so it's original in my eyes. (I don't know if there's a map like this)

I was not aware this post was still something players used, therefore it was largely unedited for years. To keep to its nostalgia, I have left much of this post the same as it was, so do excuse my bad grammar for when I wrote this when I was a kid.
Annoying legal stuff:
I am still very active in the Minecraft community, providing official Skyblock content located at, www.skyblock.net, continuing to grow Skyblock into something much more. Feel free to join and check us out to stay updated with everything new!
You may use Skyblock only on Minecraft for fan-created and non-commercial content. The use of the name and distinct design is not allowed to be turned into a purchasable product via other platforms including the Minecraft Marketplace without permission! Check out my statement where I expose my ongoing 5 year long legal battle against Microsoft and various Minecraft Marketplace companies that are making millions of dollars selling Skyblock - Click here to read statement on www.skyblock.net

It's so simple yet quite the ingenious idea.
OT: I actually like this quite a bit. I desperately need more dirt and sand though.

Awesome :biggrin.gif:

Retired StaffFrom the "cobblestone generator" I came up with an idea for an SMP auto-cobble factory. :biggrin.gif:
The only real problem was that you had a limited amount of sand, dirt and ores. My suggestion would be to put more different blocks into the platform. Or maybe another island to get to?
Again, great idea for a map can't wait to see more variations :biggrin.gif:
I don't know how to hide the picture so I'll post the link for anyone to see what I did for the cobblestone generator. http://i55.tinypic.com/25g44mx.png
I was thinking the same thing!:biggrin.gif:
In 1.1 I added some more dirt and sand.
I was thinking of adding some more islands for 1.2 or something like that. :ohmy.gif:
THANK YOU for your feedback, it helps :wink.gif:
This is the download for my map for those who want to explore.
Overall, I'd have to give this map 10/10.
It was challenging, but not impossible. I also have never seen anything like this map, so it's original in my eyes. (I don't know if there's a map like this)
Edit: Fell off the map while building my cobblestone farm :sleep.gif:
AWESOME, This is exactly how I imagined what other people would create.
