My bad for taking an extremely long time to reply, I went off to do something else.
Contrary to what the shitty bait posts may make you believe, Umineko isn't really anything you described. It starts as a murder mystery set in the 1980s and eventually transforms into a battle of wits between the main character, who had his entire family and himself murdered, and the culprit having a meta-fictional conflict about whether the murders were committed by a witch or by a human culprit. The story is split into two sections. A questions arc and answers arc. The question arc introduces the characters and gives you hints regarding the mystery, and the second arc revolves around answering the questions presented in the first arc. The game has no interactive elements. Despite that, it is considered a game between the author and the reader. As you progress through the game, you begin to realize that not everything is what it seems initially at first, and you will have to make conjectures to new puzzles thrown at you. The characters have many layers to them and are so densely written that, despite the VN's length, you end up being entranced by them in the end. The game is definitely slow paced, and that has resulted in people criticizing it for it, although I believe the writing is consistent throughout. Umineko doesn't try to sexualize its characters or rely on cute moments to send its point across. The story doesn't need to do that.
If you want to read Umineko, you may be interested in reading Higurashi first as it explain the nature of some certain characters, although it is not necessary to enjoy the story. Higurashi is structured in a similar manner, although I believe it's a far easier story to digest. What both stories absolutely excel at is their fantastic characters and dramatic payoffs. Everything has a purpose, and you're encouraged to solve the mystery by yourself before an official explanation. Each character is really memorable with distinct personalities, and the group dynamics are great. The repeating structure with slightly different events keeps the mystery engaging throughout.
I'm not forcing you to play the game. I know you're just playing around with the idea of acting extremely obsessed with some SNCA series. The game has no interactive elements. If you just don't like visual novels for whatever reason, you could try the manga which is a faithful adaptation of the VN. The anime adaptation is terrible and was never finished.
You can see more about the VNs here:
https://vndb.org/v67https://vndb.org/v24▶ №863594[Quote]>>863905
>>862908>Umineko doesn't try to sexualize its characters or rely on cute moments to send its point across. The story doesn't need to do that.I’m pretty sure I’ve seen sexualization in some of the games official art covers along with some other things. This is a thing I don’t like about modern japanese media, even if sexualization werent included in the media itself. It is outside the media of which this phenomenon happens which are made by the same people. For example, evangelion is seen as having depth and is appraised as one of the most greatest animes ever, along with some other things. Yet, although not included in the media itself, those same people who created evangelion, made calendars sexualizing the characters which I feel throw off any messages whatever it may be they were trying to convey. If I found a movie to be very interesting and sad, then see those same people making art or whatever about the movie that makes it silly. Why should I take it serious if the creators don’t? Even then I don’t like modern japanese style as it is meant to be “cute” although some artists do manage to get through this style adding more seriousness to their characters. But the rest remain the same, I can’t take something meant to be serious when it’s also trying to be cute at the same time.
▶ №863607[Quote]
>>862908I don’t like visual novels because of the lack of interactive elements. Putting a still image for someone who can’t use their imagination properly while reading a book. This is why I prefer books, I can use my gift of imagination however I want to visualize the letters in my head. Rather then relying on a still image on pixels for visualization.

But even if you did admit it, I thank you regardless of whatever you did or not of trying to have a serious conversation with me.
▶ №863905[Quote]
>>863594Since it is media not directly connected to the story's canon, I personally find it extremely easy to ignore. I wouldn't really recommend anything outside the main VN games, anyways.
>If I found a movie to be very interesting and sad, then see those same people making art or whatever about the movie that makes it silly. Why should I take it serious if the creators don’t?You don't have to be entirely solemn when discussing a particular piece of media just because the original work was. You can be humorous and make light of events that happened in the story while appreciating the underlying themes.
>>863658Have you seen what site you're currently posting on? If this isn't entirely recreational, then I don't know what it is.
▶ №864512[Quote]>>864689
I do agree with you that you can goof around and have some humor. But not in the way where it might be able to be used to ruin whatever message you are trying to convey to your audience. As for the case for modern japanese media, this for them is sexualization. Nothing wrong with making some adult jokes, as long as it isn’t over the top. But they use sexualization because it appeals to coomers, or more-so the general audience, which don’t spend 24/7 jacking off, but do the act of it daily, then move on with their day. They know their audience because they are them in some ways, and the fact that being a pervert is normalized in modern japanese society. Even if you aren’t the most perverted man in the industry, and jack off here and there sometimes, you most likely will put some sort of aspect of sexualization in what you’re making. Unless you’re Hayao Miyazaki.
>Have you seen what site you're currently posting on? If this isn't entirely recreational, then I don't know what it is.
I know, I can criticize myself doing of things whatever that may be I consider negative.
▶ №864861[Quote]
>>864689I do enjoy a japanese game which suffers from the same issue, although having the problems (besides realism) that modern japanese media suffers.
>>864689>The visual novels don't go beyond making a few vulgar jokes, and it's apt in handling darker topics (one of the themes in Higurashi is child abuse),Alright then, but even then I cannot take seriously child abuse when it is depicted in a style that appeals to cuteness.

What does unimeko do for you. Besides being entertainment, does it do anything to change your life? Make you reflect on it or not?
▶ №867404[Quote]>>867634
>>867158It probably won't change your entire world view, but it differently changed how I view fiction and how I engage with stories as a whole. It's hard to describe it, but it made me question how I view the personal bias and knowledge of authors, their intentions, and how they can be twisted. The game forces you to engage with its characters and understand their motivations to understand the story's message. It isn't given to you on a silver platter. I think it made me more critical of what I usually take for granted.
▶ №867634[Quote]

People who are fellow fans of something you enjoy are sometimes insufferable. But nothing is stopping you from ignoring them, and perhaps even separating yourself from them and enjoy your thingy. But do they act this way because they are a reflection of the thing? Or is it because of something unrelated. As you and I know we’ve both seen unimeko and higurashi (and japanese modern media in general) fans behavior, and I certainly do not like them. Do you think they act this way because they are a reflection of the franchise in some sort of way? Or unrelated factors.
▶ №867945[Quote]>>867947
>>867938I think that's just an extension of the environment they're in. I've observed that among xitter communities, people are prone to insert their political ideology into the characters, such as headcanoning a character as being trans/queer. Among imageboard users, I've seen that they're more inclined to hornypost about the characters, even if morally questionable. It's also where the racebaiting aspect originates. I don't really condone these actions, either.
