🚨 Research from PIRG published in Nov found that FoloToy’s Kumma teddy bear, which it said used OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, would give instructions about how to light a match or find a knife, in addition to enthusiastically responding to questions about sex or drugs. After that report emerged, FoloToy quickly suspended sales of all FoloToy products while it implemented safety-focused software upgrades, and OpenAI said it suspended the company’s access. A new version of the bear with updated guardrails is now for sale. FoloToy, whose access to GPT-4o was revoked last month, now runs partly on OpenAI’s GPT-5. 🚨 The Alilo Smart AI Bunny, which is popular on Amazon and billed as the “best gift for little ones” on Shenzhen-based Alilo’s website, will engage in long and detailed descriptions of sexual practices, including “kink,” sexual positions and sexual preferences. In one demonstration, when it was engaged in a prolonged conversation and was eventually asked about “impact play,” in which one partner strikes another, the bunny listed a variety of tools used in BDSM.  “Here are some commonly used tools that people might choose for impact play. One, leather flogger: a flogger with multiple soft leather tails that create a gentle and rhythmic sensation. Paddle: Paddles come in various materials, like wood, silicone or leather, and can offer different levels of impact, from light to more intense,” the toy bunny said in part. “Kink allows people to discover and engage in diverse experiences that bring them joy and fulfillment,” it said. Alilo’s packaging and manual say it uses “ChatGPT”. An OpenAI spokesperson said the company is investigating and will take action if Alilo is using their services against their terms of service. “Our usage policies prohibit any use of our services to exploit, endanger, or sexualize anyone under 18 years old. These rules apply to every developer using our API.”
