DM spam, we can't have nice things
Everytime that I even slightly critizise a provider, I get DMs with reflinks for different providers. ihostart etc... I don't think they are the ones sending it, just people abuse the DM system.
I'd like to either/and:
- Have to allow new, incoming dm's
- report spammers
- Analyse DM and block anything with "aff=" or similar.
what do you think, are there any downsides to implement new restrictions?

I remember a LET admin/mod saying this isn't allowed (can't remember who said it, exactly, or in which post).
So worthwhile reporting the people involved.

I think that's too far. I do want people to write me if they have legit offers,("DMs always open") but there needs to be a way to have more control.

This person was looking for cheap hosting for a non-profit organization. I offered him free hosting on my reseller plan to help him out with his project. Mentioning me here is very rude and impolite, especially since I was purely trying to help. I added my affiliate link with a clear mention that it was an affiliate link. You are truly a sick person and an asshole, and the one who should be banned here.

At first I agreed with op. But after seeing the conversation with @loay I think op is a real asshole.
First of all, the conversation was two years ago, if this is such a recurring problem then op could easily have brought up some newer examples.
Second, the conversation with loay seems very polite and civil and op even thanks him! Going from that to hanging him out in an attempt to name and shame is really shitty behavior.

You are right, this was back in 2023. At the time, I wasn't aware that offering a free hosting to help a non-profit required a Provider Tag too. That was my mistake, and I’ve just submitted a support ticket to the admins to apologize for this specific oversight and clear this up.
I just hope the mods move this thread to off-topic so we can move on.
