Engineering professor Elaina Sutley is the university's first winner of the Blavatnik National Award for Young Scientists, one of the country’s most significant prizes for early-career researchers. Her research addresses the question: As population growth and climate changes make natural disasters more unpredictable and extreme, how can we ensure that people in hazard-prone areas are kept safe with stable housing before, during, and after these events? Governor Laura Kelly, local officials, and regional business leaders joined Chancellor Girod last week to celebrate the grand opening of the new University of Kansas Conference Center. This versatile venue will boost KU's role as an economic engine in Kansas for years to come. Rock Chalk!
