Hello to all of you. I need a help to get a better way to use NFS links at dolphin.
I need to shutdown my NAS and I have some NFS links at my Remote section showing they are broken. Ok! But now dolphin is really laggy to open everything.
How you deal with this situation? Do you use some different way to manage it?
I even hide those links and it still holding my file browsing. I tried to create ln links to those mountings but I can't remove then from dolphin. How to remove unused NFS links from side panel?
I mounted my NFS shares like this:
192.168.129.254:/volume2/FILES /mnt/FILES nfs nofail,noauto,x-systemd.automount,_netdev,soft,timeo=2,retrans=1,lookupcache=none,actimeo=1 0 0
I know it is a good practice because I use it in other servers.
But I am worried in how off-line share impact so much dolphin.
Are there a way to deal with it better? How to unhide something?
Hi everyone. A few months before switching to Linux (Bazzite), when I was on Windows 11, I already started to remove a lot of my stuff from Microsoft & Onedrive (as a writer, I was -at the time- using a licence for Office to write & OneDrive as a backup and to keep working when I'm not at home) to Proton.
Now that I'm on Linux (and glad to be here), I found out the harsh truth : Proton Drive isn't available (yet) on Linux. Is there any reliable Cloud service on Linux (preferrably easy to install & use) that 1 : isn't too expansive and 2 : doesn't use AI to train on the users files that allows folder syncs between multiple devices ?
EDIT : Thank you all for your answers, I'll give a try to pCloud and Nextcloud !
Hi there, hope all's well with you all.
I am daily driving Debian 13, KDE Plasma with X11, and I have been facing a frustrating issue. When I run games on Steam (Flatpak), if I Alt+Tab to use say browser or say Discord or say any other app more than a couple of times, KDE freezes. Some system sounds I can hear, but there is nothing I can do to kill any process. Other times, when I Alt+Tab, the game would just shut itself down, and I'd have to click Play again in Steam.
I tried reading as much as I could, and I think maybe it is something to do with Fullscreen and Compositor conflicting, but it would be great if you can help me understand this better and find a solution.
Also, please, I do not wish to use Wayland so switching to it is not an option for me. Oh, let me also mention that I am using a dual GPU laptop, like AMD iGPU and Nvidia dGPU.
I am new to using Linux, but if you need more info like error logs, please let me know how can I fetch it for you to show them here.
Thank you so much in advance!

I'm running into a frustrating issue with KDE Plasma where my system tray icons suddenly stop opening their respective pop-ups (plasmoids).
As shown in the attached video, the panel is visible. I can open the Network Manager initially. However, immediately after interacting with the Network widget, the rest of the system tray becomes unresponsive. When I click on the Volume, Battery, or Clock icons, nothing happens. The click is registered (the icon highlights/depresses), but the UI/pop-up never appears.
It looks like (at least in the settings GUI) there's no way to adjust the "edge snapping distance" when dragging windows to the sides of my monitors with my mouse. I can change the snapping distance for window placement next to other windows and the edges of the screen, but that doesn't change the size of the tiling "activation zones" around the screen which is the more important one for me.
I have three monitors and a TV connected, and really dislike having my cursor stick to the edges of monitors because I'm constantly moving between them. I turned that part off which has been a significant improvement, but now I have to be more precise when tiling windows which slows the whole thing down.
I'm familiar with Super+Left/Right/Page Up/Whatever and use those shortcuts frequently, but their convenience is quite situational to me, so I'd rather just tile with my mouse most of the time.

What's the best way to add 3 finger gestures to the touchpad and touchscreen of my computer? I have seen others on here share different ways, but they all seem different. I have installed Input Remapper but I am open to whatever solution is best.
Used Ubuntu for a few months, just hopped to KDE plasma yesterday - Sorry if this is too basic a question.
What's the best themes, tools and widgets you think it's mandatory to have ??? 🤔
Hi y'all
This is probably a very basic question, but I'm a linux beginner, at least on the desktop. I'm using endeavour os with kde plasma, and have recently updated my system. That upgrade installed kde plasma 6.5.3. I don't know which version I've had before.
Now I'm using 2 monitors, my main one is a 1440p wide screen and the second one is a 1080p in portait orientation. Before the update, I had my display scaling and dpi perfectly set up, with all windows being the same size on both monitors and nothing blurry, everything was as I want. But now after the update, I don't seem to be able to restore that. Either everything on my 2nd monitor is gigantic with electron apps being very confused and resizing over and over when switching between screens, and if I set the scaling of the 1080p to 75%, everything lines up in size but becomes very blurry and electron apps (such as vivaldi) are even more confused and don't even know what fullscreen is anymore.
Is there a way I can restore this to the way it was before? It's a bit frustrating currently, but maybe I overlooked something very simple.
Hi,
Yesterday I moved from my old asus z170 mb to a brand new z790 mb.
I hoped to boot without problem but it needed some tweak.
My OS was installed in Legacy, I tried a lot of option before founding the CSM Legacy support in the bios. After that my system booted without problem.
I then updated from bookworm to trixie, took some time but the process was easy and smooth. Plasma was updated too but I had some glitch until I rebooted a few time.
After that, I created a new Fat32 partition of 550mb to install the grub-efi directly from my running OS. Everything went smooth too and I switched back my bios to standard uefi.
I still have some error trying to use fwupdmgr who is not happy with my efi but I didn't find any solution for the moment.
So now my system is fully updated, but it's not working as smooth as before (with the z170), I have an intel processor unlocked and there is so much options for the overclocking it would take me hours to try everything. I have some lags in Plasma, sometimes the file browser is slow... With the z170 I turned some OC options off for better stability and to prevent my games from crashing.
Do some of you know the overclocking options that work best or that I should absolutely turn off ? Or should I adapt something in the OS ? I want my stability back :)
I have an NVIDIA RTX3070 with the driver 550.163
I love KDE. It's so good! But damn, using non Apple laptops is such a bummer. 3 hours of battery life on a new Lenovo Yoga. Poor build quality and lots of noise depending on where you're pressing the laptop. Ah and it has a coil whine as well.
There is anything like Apple Macbook available for the Linux world? Please, don't suggest me a Macbook with Asahi.
Like seriously, it was right there!
So, I'm unable to download KDE Plasma Plugins and addons, (Desktopwidgets, panel applets, etc.)
Basiacally, there's just an eternal loading screen for any of the download modals. After visiting the KDE Store site directly, attempting a search shows that their search is under maintenance.
Is there a way to see the progress on that? Is it reported somewhere?
Hello, I am using windows and am getting frustrated with the backspace key going back to the SMS menu instead of just erasing the last character. Every time it happens I have to completely rewrite the message. Is there a way to reconfigure that keybind?

Has anyone here had the same "issue"? Any help is appreciated
Amarok sits in this weird space where it's KDE and provides data and info which is cool.
BUT WHO DESIGNED THIS?! Pleeeease tell me this was all the work of one person. I refuse to believe a GROUP of human beings actually came together and agreed on this interface!
For those who aren't familiar, here's how Amarok, an "Audio Player", goes from "Add Music" to "Play Music":
-
Have your music in a folder.
-
Amarok auto detects in your /Music/ folder. Cool, no problems there.
-
Play button doesn't work. Why? Well, clicking on your music doesn't play it. Double click an album? No ... Hmm ... Right Click only gives me an option to make playlists? weird. No ... that can't be it ...
BOOM SUDDENLY MUSIC IS PLAYING. Wait, what, how?! Oh I accidentally MIDDLE CLICKED IT?! MIDDLE CLICKING IS THE ONLY WAY!?
Well, No! It turns out, Amarok doesn't play music nor audio. It plays PLAYLISTS only.
loljk i'm lying. It plays a SUBLIST OF PLAYLIST CALLED QUEUE. So here's the real steps to play a single song:
-
Add song to playlist.
-
Add song to queue.
-
Press play
wha- ... how ... who ... WHY?! K.I.S.S.? More Like BHWBP: Bash Head With Bowling Pin.
And don't anyone dare "RTFM". I'm not reading a manual in order to learn how to EXECUTE AN AUDIO PROGRAM'S MOST BASIC FUNCTION.
My suggestion? If nothing is queued or playlisted, the Play button should automake a playlist, queue it up, and just start playing some damn music, ffs. Also, add "Play Song/Album" to right click that also just automakes a playlist and queues it up. Would make the user experience a MILLION TIMES better.
If you actually read all this, congratulations, you've not totally succumbed to internet attention span brain rot.
The problem doesn't occur while using X11 though. My distro is openSUSE Tumbleweed. I don't know whether it's spesific to openSUSE or KDE or Wayland. Anyone has the problem?
Context: it was raining and my laptop got wet/humid and since then I get often kernel panic due to circuits oxidation. First time it happened I couldn't even boot it up since grub wouldn't be reached, I had to hard reset the uefi. I'll go to a repair workshop soon to clean it up. But I don't know for sure if this has to do with the environment behavior.
The interface can randomly freeze and can be fixed only by hard reboot. One specific application freezes (usually vscode), then becomes unresponsive. Firefox crashes immediately something it doesnt like, at the most light functions. After like 3-5 minutes after boot everything is slow, any button from the plasmashell, any terminal command etc. The cpu and ram stay low usage.
Well from this I might think that it's just hardware problem - but I also tested for the awesome x11 environment I happened to have installed and didn't find anything there, or possibly I didn't stress it enough time.
I was thinking to do a full plasma reinstall, or even arch install. Because I remember some years ago when it was plasma 5 it also came to point kde was really slow and laggy, then I switched the distro temporarily. I still don't know why this happens after months of normal behaviour. Then after fresh install things work like butter. I could also try and put my ssd to a different computer to truly isolate and see where is the cause.
Any insights will be appreciated, please ask me any info important for the debug.
Why can't Kate find the path to the binary file after installing vue-language-server with the command npm -g install vue/language-server? In the terminal, it's enough to just type vue-language-server and everything works. I restarted Kate, but it still doesn't see it in the output tab. At the very top of the output, there is some strange PATH. I am using Kubuntu 25.10. I like Kate, but I don't understand what's wrong. The same error occurs with typescript-language-server
Please, help me, I don't wanna leave Kate
Today, my day to day gif recording website is currently broken. One of the few well working ways to record gifs on wayland and quickly edit them.
I have been using for the last 4 years for this.
Since it is broken, I needed an alternative that allows me to quickly choose a region, and record until it is fixed.
I decided to see how far spectacle's screen recording has come along and I see I can record via webp. This is awesome!
My issue is that it is needlessly high fps and what I do needs at max, 10 fps. I am a QA dev and being able to have the file size as small as possible is very important to me as all my gifs/webps are bug reports. Often, these gifs need to be put elsewhere and they cannot be any bigger than 5MBs or else they will be blocked.
My question is simple, is it possible to change the fps it saves or records at? I checked .config/spectaclerc but didn't see anything relevant inside and trying to add an option with an obvious name like VideoFPS=10 or FPS=10 does nothing.
I know I can use something like ffmpeg for this but I'd rather not make my work take longer than it needs to be. Often we are crunching during release days and adding extra time to that is not good.
Hi, I've set up CachyOS with KDE Plasma for my dad but there's an issue I've ran into: Shortcuts can only be placed on his desktop as icon widgets whereas on my desktop, also running Cachy + KDE Plasma, I can create links just by dragging, dropping and can easily reorganise like in Windows. I'm aiming to replicate his Windows desktop layout as it is what he's used to.
However, his context menu when dragging a folder/app to the desktop is missing the 'Move Here/Copy Here/Link Here' options that I have and to reorganise his icons we have to go into edit mode to drag and resize. We're both using Dolphin if that matters.
For example, I drag the Music folder from Places to his desktop I get this:
When I drag my Music folder from Places to my desktop, I get this:
I'm probably missing an obvious toggle somewhere, but nothing's jumping out at me. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey KDE folks! I’m a GNOME user, but I just wanted to drop by and show some love for the amazing KDE Connect software. You might be wondering why a GNOME user is mentioning it, so let me explain:
Rather than creating a completely separate app to do something similar, a developer decided to fork KDE Connect on the desktop side and develop GSConnect GNOME extension for the GNOME environment. The result? A seamless experience that integrates perfectly with KDE Connect.
I think KDE Connect deserves more praise than it gets. It’s packed with useful features, and here are the two I personally find indispensable for my workflow:
-
Clipboard Sync: The ability to send what’s copied to the clipboard on my phone to my desktop’s clipboard has saved me countless times. There have been situations when I didn’t have my password manager set up on a desktop, and instead of manually typing out some crazy 64-character password, I could just copy it from my phone and paste it right in. Huge time-saver!
-
Remote System Reboot: The option to reboot my system directly from the KDE Connect mobile app is invaluable. It's saved me more than once when my system becomes unresponsive, and I can't use my mouse or keyboard. Instead of risking a hard shutdown with the power button, I can safely reboot via the app.
These features alone have become a high-value part of my daily workflow. How about you? What are your favorite KDE Connect features, and how do you incorporate them into your desktop use?
A big thank you to the KDE devs for such an incredible tool!
The small little task manager with half my desktop showing just looks so off.
I've noticed that new folders aren't created in the current folder, but rather inside the folder that's currently highlighted. Is there a setting to disable this?
Steps to reproduce:
-
Select a folder.
-
Press CTRL + Shift + N.
-
Press enter.
This does not happen if you select a folder, and then click off of it.
Hi!
My KDE started to work really slow and I was wondering why, if you use opening prev apps on start of the system, antigravity still works in the background even if you close it and it really slows down system in my situation. Killing all processes from terminal fixes situation, maybe it will help someone too. But I have question too. Opening prev apps on system startup opens apps that were not opened when i closed the system. It just starts same apps every boot even if i were not using them. Did You have same issue? Any fix?
My job is simple, almsot entirely browser-based, and the only desktop app we use is Slack. During the workday I'll have multiple browser windows open, a few PWAs going, and obviously lots of Slack chats.
Plasma is far superior to macOS for just these simple tasks. At the most basic level, app icons only appear on the panel if I'm on the desktop where they're in use, which helps keep work instances of apps separate from personal instances. I don't have to look at my open work apps when I'm on a desktop that has personal stuff. macOS insists on showing all open apps all the time, and clicking the app icons is a wheel-of-fortune as to which window it'll show you.
Activities is an entire new level of game-changing. I can designate a place for work things without having to fully close down other stuff or spin up another entire instance of my OS. The only way to get this type of separation in macOS is to create an entire separate user and switch back and forth.
And then there's Slack... the notifications on Mac just don't work. It never plays the sound unless I'm actively in the Slack window. So I always miss chats because the Slack window is obviously in the background most of the time. I don't know if it's a macOS thing, or a problem with the Mac version of Slack, but on Fedora KDE it works perfect. I always get alerts and never miss messages.
It's amazing to me that KDE is available for free and utterly demolishes the workflow of a trillion-dollar-corporate OS. Major props to the devs. I find myself using my Mac less and less every day, and it was a pleasant surprise to find that KDE is vastly superior in so many ways for my basic job requirements.
Maybe I can get my company to buy me a Thinkpad or a Framework...
Well, as the title says "Any replacements for KDE Event-Calendar widget yet?" I think it must have been a number of years iv been waiting. I have tried all other calendar apps/programs/widgets etc. We shall not go into all that mess. This is a desktop, right? with no real quick easy calendar for years?
Hey everyone,
I’m running into a small but annoying issue with Dolphin on Fedora 42 KDE . Whenever I try to open any folder on my Desktop, there’s a noticeable delay before it opens. Folders like Documents and Downloads open instantly it’s only the desktop folders that feel a bit slow.
Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix?
Wether I use Plymouth or the base KDE Splash screen option, when i boot the text still appear.
I made a small donation.
Keep open source alive by giving what you can!
When an external screen is connected via DisplayPort, the laptop wakes up again after a few seconds. This does not happen when a monitor is connected via HDMI, nor when the laptop is operated without an external monitor.

Hello all,
KDE will start on the last desktop, this is not what I want. I try to have specific applications on specific desktops so I always start my applicatoins as if I am desktop 1, but then I notice I'm on the desktop I shut down with. Quite annoying.
Any fix?
