well here's a very unique and fun issue, i had vista bluescreen on me (because of a fault with the supermium browser, so unrelated/not caused by the disc) while i had a disc in the drive, but now that very same disc is not able to be read or accessed by this computer. putting this exact disc in another computer (thinkpad T61 with XP) showed that all the files are still on it just fine, and any other disc seems to work fine with this vista machine except the one that was in it during the time of the crash
i don't remember if i had the disc opened in a window, but i'm 90% sure i did, but i definitely didn't have anything burning to it
So a while ago I watched this video where someone was testing half life 2 on Windows XP, they mentioned that they edited their game from Steam to boot without Steam.
I tried to look it up and it just said copy the “game.exe” but trying to open any of those on Vista or XP will just throw an error so it’s clearly way more steps the just copy over the game and its folder.
I was wondering what the real process for doing this is so I can play Skyrim, Oblivion, Half Life 2, Meridian 59, and a few others on my laptop which runs a duel boot of XP and Vista?
(I tried to ask in the Steam Subreddit but the post was falsely removed so I have to ask here)
So I have a testbed PC setup that was running win11 (trying to cut out the bloat) and onto which I now want to replace with UEFI Vista. It's an Asus cross hair V formula-Z motherboard with an FX-8350 CPU and 16GB Corsair DDR3-1600 (800MHz) running at DDR3-2400MT (1200MHz). It has a 500GB Samsung SATA SSD and RX480 reference GPU (for now). If I completely disable CSM so it's running native UEFI mode I can get as far as installing Vista normally until it gets to the end of the install process and gives me a "required system driver couldn't be loaded, setup will now revert changes" message and then quits.
I've side loaded both SATA AHCI drivers as well as AMD chipset 18.10 drivers for the 990FX chipset and still no luck. The best I can get is a black screen on startup with a single grey/white bar across the screen (OS choice screen) but there's no OS's listed and the system freezes on this screen.
Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
I'm wondering if I HAVE to use win7 or 10 setup to create the partitions and then install the Vista wim image file on the msftdata partition?? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
I want an old Windows Vista machine with Windows Vista already in there. Thinkpad is no good. No good at all. Want Windows Vista.
I found the disc at an antique store, and I put the disc in my computer and it downloads, but it makes me install steam and it shows a load bar, but it never goes up and after a while it tells me I need to be connected to the internet, even though I am
I want to run steam in windows vista so I can play the Orginal release of Skyrim, or play Morrowind or Oblivion.
I saw this video that showcased that steam can run on windows xp using one core api, so I was wondering if there was a way to get a similar app that allows windows 10 and 11 support on vista so I can install steam and discord?
So I have windows vista ultimate x64 and I’m trying to get dreamscene.
The problem is the way you get the ultimate extras is via windows update which doesn’t work anymore.
I’ve tried to look it up but I can’t find a good way to activate it or get the other ultimate extras.
Edit:I meant Windows Vista ISO patched to work for modern hardware.
Hello, I want to run Windows Vista on modern hardware. I have been searching on how to fix the ACPI error so I can install Windows Vista on a modern PC, but I can't patch the acpi.sys because I don't have the right Windows Vista ISO and I have no idea on how to even edit the acpi.sys in the boot.wim file. So, Does anyone have a patched Windows Vista ISO that works on real hardware and can anyone send me that ISO?
Thanks.
Hi everyone.
Full Story:
I got started building my own computers in my early 20s back in 1993. Been building my own boxes ever since. I've done Windows 3.0, 3.1, 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, 95, 95-2,98, 98-2, NT (ugh), XP (salvation), ME (weird), and then Vista, which looked gorgeous and was by far the worst of them all out of the box. I remember the service pack 1 being distributed and that it was actually larger than the entire original Vista Release.
Vista's intermittent issues finally led me to convert fully over to Linux, and I have been doing that since 2009. I love Linux, and don't see any need to change, but now....I'd like to have a later version of Windows Vista (64-bit, probably Ultimate) just for Nostalgia and dinking around with--I think I even have a couple of old programs and games to install on it.
I still have my Vista 32-bit that came with my Celeron that eventually got trashed by a lightening strike, but I would prefer 64-bit. I'd prefer to have a full version, but if I can install an Upgrade without prior verification, I might go for that, can't remember if one can do that with Vista, but I thought there was a work around. Obviously a full release/retail version would be the ideal way to go for me.
Anyhow, I've really enjoyed seeing the Modified Vistas running on new equipment. Well done to the guys and gals that makes this possible--it's really cool to see Vista (probably much more stable now) rolling along on modern equipment.
I'll probably install Vista in V-Box on my Linux Box as that's just easier for me to maintain, but when my current box get's old (it will be a few years from now), it might be fun to set it up to dual boot with my Linux. We'll have to see.
Does anyone know where I can get a solid 64-bit Vista Ultimate with proper key and such? It can't be worth much these days, but I'd definitely drop a few dollars for one.
Has anybody been able to bootstrap drivers to get windows Vista to drive a 4k display with full resolution?
so a while back i managed to get my hands on an old windows vista laptop (to be specific it was like a toshiba laptop or something idk) but every time i would try to turn it on and run it normally the screen would go black and i'd have to restart it. it would only ever run correctly if i had it on safe mode. it hadnt been used in around 10 years before i turned it on so maybe its just old and doesnt work anymore. anyone know how to fix this?
I need OS Windows 8.1 for my old laptop before that it was 10 but time went by and the system became heavier and no longer pulled and after looking at the specifications I realized that the best option would be 7 or 8.1 I already have a lot I searched for it on some sources but couldn't find it, so I'm asking for help here. Could you please send me the OS file or a link where I can download it?
I recently got a Windows Vista Virtual Machine but cant get Ruffle or any other flash emulators working on the browser I have or even by themselves, is it possible to run flash at all on there now?
If this isn't the right sub please let me know where to ask this
So basically i've found my old PC running windows vista, but cannot for the life of me remember the password (the hint is "greek" but i have no idea what that's supposed to mean) i've tried installing software to recover the password but it wont let me use the programs without the admin password i.e. the one i forgot
anyone know what i can do
So I have a GTX 1070, and for the last 4 days, the audio has been working fine. It hasn't been until today that suddenly my audio decides to not work. I am using NVIDIA driver from Windows 7 (which are the ones that have worked the last few days) and have had no issues 'till now. I also tried testing the audio via sound, but I only get "Failed to play test tone." Also, according to sound, NVIDIA HDMI Output is not plugged in. How can I fix this? PS: I did try reinstalling the drivers, but it didn't work.
I recently turned my childhood pc into a virtual machine, when I booted it off the vm, it bsod'd on me, and now it's always booting into the recovery environment, I've tried running startup repair, but it always fails, I ran the bootrec commands, nothing. Could it be something related to drivers maybe??
windows vista was so good. people said it was bad, but it was good. i want it back. pls. windows vista.

Hello folks, I recently came across my mom's old HP desktop (c.2007-2008) and her password has long been forgotten and nowadays i'd like to get into the computer. i dont want to factory reset the thing, i just want to recover possible photos or videos from in the computer. if anyone would be willing to assist, (hacking or not) i'd be very grateful
I have a old dell dimension 3100 which has xp installed cpu is celeron d and i have upgraded to 2gb. I will use this pc to store old files from my main computer and windows vista is of course way better than xp for many things. Windows vista is much more modern and nicer to use and i would like to have vista on this pc when i want to view my old files. but the question is. Will windows vista home basic 32 bit be able to multitask watch videos with smplayer and search index and maybe even internet browsing without any slowdowns?
my dell vostro a860 laptop got swapped ssd because hdd is died, but after i install vista back, now it's running slower than before, all drivers, even chipset ones manually, still x86 version, but it's running slower. webpages load in minutes, pc boots up in seconds but even aero is sluggish, it got 3.0 from WEI, intel gma x3100 mobile for gm965 chipset. what should i do, i don't want to buy a new laptop, that one is mine for more than 15 years

So I have not used Windows Vista with Legacy Update, but it's been stuck "Configuring Updates" for the past 2 hours. Is this normal, and can it take longer? Take note, it is NOT looking for updates. It is "Configuring" them. From my experience with Legacy Update (Windows 7), it never did this.
Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 7530G laptop from 2008, I decided to restore it to almost factory-like Vista, but unfortunately recovery partition doesn't exist here anymore because of dead original hard drive which I replaced with SSD and big HDD in second bay. I found most of OEM things (wallpapers, software, OEM branding etc.), but unfortunately there is no screensaver anywhere for 1440x900 resolution (I found screensavers from related 15.4" models but they're only 1280x800, so they're garbled on that big screen). If anyone still has that laptop with recovery partition, I'll be grateful if you send me screensaver (7730G one will do a job too)
Thank you
So I’ve been trying to install updates via legacy update but for some reason every time I click install the “review updates” button it just crashes IE and I have to end it in task manger to get it to fully close.
I’ve never came across this before as usally it just works without issue so I was hoping someone could help me fix this as this is the only last way I have to get the Ultmate extras installed.

Just asking. I know that Vista ended support years ago, and that I am using a newer graphics card, but I just want to know if there are any MODDED drivers or BACKPORTED drivers that anyone knows about. And if not, then are there any integrated graphics drivers? And if you want to tell me that "Oh, why do you want to run Vista on a newer graphics card? Blah blah blah..." just know, you aren't helping very much.
Help, i have been tryign everything to get it to work but i just couldnt, this includes using windows 7 drivers, trying to use the Xbox 360 drivers (which would somewhat make sence if it would work but it doesnt) and even bluetooth! (but it wont show up) any suggestions on how i could make it work?
Last resort is getting an Xbox 360 controller (i wont use a controller emulator, never!)
Hi guys, I have a PC with an i5-3230M and it doesn't have drivers for Windows Vista. What can I do?
I have installed vista successfully with the extended kernel on a braswell platform laptop (specifically a pentium n3710). It's got a realtek wifi 5 card, and the hd 405 intergated GPU
Im wondering could anyone point me to some sort of drivers, or guide to mod drivers for WiFi and GPU acceleration to work? Im mainly looking for the GPU drivers though, as i can live with usb tethering. WiFi still would be nice though. Also possibly sd card reader drivers, as that isn't functional either
Thank you for any potential answers!
Grüezi,
I have installed Windows Vista on my Compaq Presario R3000, and i used SDI to intstall all drivers, however, the drivers for the graphics (ATI Radeon 9000/9100 IGP), because it only works with XP iirc, and the sound, which should work (ADI 1981B), also doesn't work.
Can any of you people help me out here?
i have a mb-t510 laptop that i want to install vista on but i dont know where to get a uefi version of vista (if it even exists)
So I've been trying to build a Vista machine, but everytime i turn the system on, one board power cycles, the other hangs on verifying dmi pool data, so i can't even get to the installer via the dvd or usb. any suggestions?
