Hertfordshire County Council installs bollards to block drivers who put pedestrians at risk at Snowley Parade in Bishop’s Stortford
Bollards have been installed at a Bishop’s Stortford shopping parade to stop drivers mounting the pavement and putting pedestrians at risk.
The metal bollards were installed by highways authority Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), outside Belleve Hair salon at the bottom end of Snowley Parade in Manston Drive.
Delivery vehicles use the frontage of the parade to access shops there and other drivers have been seen parking on the path outside Snowley Beer & Wine off licence.
One trader was concerned blocking the parade frontage would mean delivery drivers would be unable to easily access his store and was upset he was not consulted.
A county spokesperson told the Indie the bollards were brought in as part of a local safety improvement initiative funded by Bishop’s Stortford East representative Cllr Calvin Horner through the Highway Locality Budget.
Consultation was not required as the location was not a “designated vehicle crossover”, but the spokesperson added rumours that more bollards would be installed at the top of the parade were unfounded.
“We are committed to improving safety for pedestrians and the bollards were installed following concerns raised by a number of residents regarding vehicles mounting, parking on, and crossing the footways, which posed a significant safety risk,” said the spokesperson.
