Use anki. Also learn kana (hiragana and katakana)
Also learn what a texthooker is and yomitan
That's the best way to start.
If you know at least one word for every major kanji, it no longer becomes an issue and it actually becomes easier than learning other languages because kanji provide a lot of info to help you learn
