November 22nd, 2025: More work today. I set my alarm clock for 6:00am and had cereal, I brewed myself coffee and then got on the bus by 6:47am. I got downtown and bought a mint flavored mocha at a park so I could use their bathroom. I did that and waited for my bus to head over to where I’m working for now. I got on at 7:45am and spent most of it with SuperLocalMaps to fill it out. When I got over at 8:20am I walked in and first got assigned work to do by Seth M’s friend at 8:26am to clean up our booth despite me needing to get into work at 9:30am. This guy who I will be calling Mrauku helped us out. I got it cleaned up and brewed both pots of coffee. My first customer was the guy from yesterday dressed like a Central European Santa Claus wanting his horn cup to be refilled. Then the Benjamin Franklin guy. Seth M’s friend said I couldn’t sell yet but I ignored him later. Eventually more people started coming in and I had to work on the cash register more. Near the start Elon came over to help us, time passed and there were 3 employees and some volunteers helping, I had to correct this one fat Southeast Asian girl’s hairnet because I wasn’t working on ice cream. the rush wasn’t as intense but it was longer than yesterday’s. After a bit I saw Joy, Portia, the CEO, and the Polish lady walking around with the consulate general. I waved to them but only Joy noticed and waved back. I got more worked up a bit and after a while Elon left without notifying us, I stayed at the cash register and saw Charlie and the Portuguese woman. I continued working with Shima C coming over with 2 boys, I thought they were her sons but they were actually Zarith C’s sons. I saw others like Keke, Kiana, the CEO’s daughter, Adam I hanging out with Loid, the Latinx Lady, Seth M, Lillehammer, all 3 Ukrainians. I was called over by Seth M when Staples was around because I needed to write my time in and out on this sheet in an office. I was working fast for the lunch rush, Zach A came over with the girl from yesterday and it turns out it was his sister, there had to be no less than a decade age gap between them. Soon enough Seth M’s friend came over to criticize me and only me, the guy at the cash register, for tons of things that the others were supposed to do, he first had me empty out an almost full bucket of warm water to make ice cream scooping easier and when I brought it back he told me:
“No no you shouldn’t be filling it all the way up!”
After seeing the bucket filled up high before, you couldn’t say anything. But it felt like he criticized specifically me for everything, there was plastic from all the soda bottle bunches I had to order, the primitive trash can overflowed and there was ice cream from all the stuff we were scooping out, not many people were wearing the hair nets or the paper hats, we weren’t wiping the ice cream freezer off once every hour, we had a tip jar that I had to dump there was very little order in the way people got in and out. He thought it was so bad that he got 2 new people, 1 of whom looked like the Latinx lady and the other guy with a military cut. I went on break at 12:30pm and I bought some chicken jerk from the Ugandan guy for $15.00 and next a mango lassi from the Indian booth for $5.00. thought the Senegalese chicken yassa was far better, fresher, and was bigger for the same price point. I ate and drank it to wander around more. I bought a cup from Zarith C and got my discount. I put it in the office and ended up on the news by walking in the background with my paper hat on, I saw the Rastafarian a bit later and then walked back to continue working. A Chinese guy asked me for hot water and I gave it to him the kindness of your heart because it technically wasn’t on our menu. A bit later the Polish lady came to the back to get some cups, I gave her the cups and then asked her about the consulate general, she only thanked me for the cups and as she left I whispered to myself:
“Fucking answer me when I ask you a question.”
She didn’t hear me, otherwise this would be a far more exciting diary entry.
I continued handling the money and just instinctively handed out 1 dollar bills whenever I saw a $5. Later Edgar came over and joked that with my hat, I should be called Spongebob now. For wiping off the ice cream machine, I got a styrofoam bowl and I sprayed some cleaner in it, poured hot water in, and dipped a paper towel in it to wipe off the display with ease. There was this Indian volunteer there that told me I shouldn’t be wiping off the machine so much. The Indian lady was worried all the cleaning chemicals would make the food smell bad. It died down later and then we had next to nothing to do. Dinner for me was these Burmese noodles with an unknown vegetable:
We didn’t get a dinner event like last time so that’s all I had. When I got back there was still some people there and I had to scoop ice cream for a minute while one person was on dinner break. All my progress towards removing my racism shattered when I had to give customer service to a Malaysian family of 6. The kids were hard to understand but the parents had the more severe forms of ESL, scooping was hard with all the flavors mixed up. I wish Markus and Zephyr came today so I could whisper to Markus a joke saying:“Attention conventiongoers, there is a mixed flavor couple kissing on aisle 5.”
I thought of it myself and kept my mouth shut. The 2 people Seth M’s friend brought over to clean the act up got a tip jar set up again… We eventually closed at 9:30pm and got a slice of Thanksgiving themed cake and ate it, it tasted like the cake layers were made using cornmeal. Who the fuck uses cornmeal in their cakes. I grabbed my orange mug I left in the office and walked over to the bus stop with this guy who worked in setup who got 4 whole leftover containers of free food at night. I got on the surprisingly crowded bus and wrote before just getting behind the bus I wanted to get on, through some luck my desired bus ended up stopping at the same time and I got on it with a group of 7 men and women dressed like wild animals going to a rave at the same stop as me, I got home, took a shower, tried a shot of the new limoncello (Il Tramonto is better) and went to sleep.
