Which music recognition engine can return multiple results? Which music recognition engine can return multiple results?
discussion

Shazam, and by extension anything that relies on it (like Aha-music), can only list one result.

This leads to the problem where Shazam doesn't find the original instrumental track, but other media that used it as background music.

Examples that can be tested include "The Midnight - Collateral" matching "BrookHoliday - Paper Guns" and "Wayne Jones - Mr. Sunny Face" matching the video "Bad Money" by Mark Angel comedy, because it used this as background music.

Does anyone know a sound search engine that matches multiple results?

Cantaloop (Us3): the jazz sample that brought Blue Note back into the charts Cantaloop (Us3): the jazz sample that brought Blue Note back into the charts
discussion

I’ve been digging into the story behind “Cantaloop,” and it’s honestly wild how this track became a bridge between generations.
A 1964 Herbie Hancock riff gets pulled into a 1993 hip-hop single, and suddenly Blue Note — a label many thought “museum-like” at the time — is back on MTV and the Billboard charts.

What fascinates me most is how the track works on two levels:

  • as a hip-hop beat built on tight loops and minimalism

  • and as a love letter to jazz phrasing, swing, and horn arrangements

It’s one of those rare songs where the sample didn’t replace the original spirit — it amplified it.

If you're into the history of jazz sampling or the crossover between boom bap and the Blue Note catalogue, I did a deep dive here (no pressure to read, just adding context):

Curious how you all see Cantaloop:
Is it a gateway track for new listeners, or just a 90s one-off miracle?

I just learned about this movie. I would love to see it, but it is VERY limited - nothing close to me (some places seemed a little random). Does anybody know why it's so limited and if they plan to go into wider release or streaming?

Lastly, I don't even see it playing in Nashville (I have a friend visiting there next week). That seems odd as that is where it was filmed. Am I missing something?

Merci !

ALL MY H.E.R.O.S SELL DOPE is the debut album from Reno native Jimmy Teflon. I’ve been listening to him for a few years now, he dropped this one song called GTA, pretty much a sueco clone but I stuck around it was a cool moment. But bro the transformation is INSANE, he went from this white dude who clearly just wanted to look cool to rapping like he’s signed to TDE. People talk about Clipse and Tyler and all these other people but I NEED you guys to give this album a try, it’s so good. It’s got a story like good kid but the style of blank face idk even know how to explain it. But yall talk about who’s slept on I’m telling you it’s him. He’s only got 60k listeners but he’s dropping quality like he has 60m. His videos on YouTube are equally good. I seriously can’t wrap my head around how he isn’t big yet please go check him out.

Hi!! I’m burning a cd for my boyfriends birthday and am struggling to finish it off. I have what I feel is a pretty good mix of songs that represent important landmarks in our relationship/a sound that reminds me of him, but I want a few more so it’s a substantial length. Here’s what I have so far (in order)

Cupid de Locke- The Smashing Pumpkins

Cynical One- TV Girl

Thinking About You- Faye Webster

Trevor Wong Guitar E-School Graduate- Summer 2000

Alison- Slowdive

Subterranean Homesick Alien- Radiohead

You Can Have it All- Yo La Tengo

I bounced around with some Galaxie 500 on there, Belle and Sebastian, Beach House, Velvet Underground. But I’m having trouble finding something that feels right. I’d like ten or so songs. I appreciate any help at all:)! Tia

Genuinely why do people hate Sabrina Carpenter? Genuinely why do people hate Sabrina Carpenter?
discussion

I’ve been a fan of her for a while and I don’t understand the hate. I know that every single female artist has an era where they go through an UNNATURAL amount of hate for every little thing they do (Taylor, Billie, Charli, Chappell, cupcakKe, Lana Del Ray, Hracie Abrams, and on and on and on) but hers has gone on for so long it’s astounding to me. The only reasons I can think of that make sense are the Lolita photo shoot and the time she gave the handcuffs to a minor, but that’s it.

“Rebranding herself” is not valid as every single artist in history has at some point rebranded themselves in their career for public attention, and she is absolutely not the first person to rebrand herself in a “I’m a sexy bitch who loves sex” way. Saying “because her music bad” is also invalid because if that was true then that means all music is equally as bad as hers, because no singer or song doesn’t have people who don’t like it.

If anyone responds please do it in a calm, reasonable, and logistical way as there’s no reason to be rude just because someone online is asking a genuine question.

Do people actually care if a non American rapper/singer raps in an american accent? Do people actually care if a non American rapper/singer raps in an american accent?
discussion

I've been wondering if people care if a non American muscian raps or sings in an american accent. For an an example i rap in an american accent depsite being from the UK i believe this is because i grew up my whole life listening to american hiphop rap music, so when I rap It just slips off my tongue and feels more natural than the British accent.

However ive also seen some people get backlash due to lack of authenticity or "fraud", such as rappers like iggy azalea, and this backlash has cost her career. But other times people like KID LAROI, don't seem to be much affected by the public opinion.

Heavenly- P.U.N.K Girl [Pop/ Punk] Heavenly- P.U.N.K Girl [Pop/ Punk]
discussion

There's this website informing that the song is about "the story of a relationship between a girl and a boy; of how the boy becomes obsessed with the girl, who is leading him on – flirting with him, pretending she loves him - and how this leads him to rape her." I understand where the first part is coming from but WHERE IS IT SAID IN THE LYRICS THAT SHE GOT RAPED???

Lyrics

[Intro]

People say she's bad

But they don't see

The way she is with me

[Chorus]

P is for the painful way she makes me feel some days

U is for Utopia, the other times with her

N is for the new wave dreams she had back in her teens

K is for the kid in her, my P.U.N.K. girl

[Verse 1]

She is honest and kind but in a way that people see

As telling lies and being mean

She has thousands of dreams but what they are I'll never know

I hope I figure in them though

[Pre-Chorus]

I don't care if they can't see

Just how great that girl can be

But I wish, she'd find a way

To act well, for just one day

I don't mind if they can't see

Just how much she means to me

I still know what I will say

If that girl comes my way

[Chorus]

P is for the painful way she makes me feel some days

U is for Utopia, the other times with her

N is for the new wave dreams she had back in her teens

K is for the kid in her, my P.U.N.K. girl

[Verse 2]

She is hardened to hurt her softness hidden from the world

But almost ready to unfurl

She tries so hard to change but something always happens to

Persuade her, it's too hard to do

[Pre-Chorus]

I don't care if they can't see

Just how great that girl can be

But I wish, she'd find a way

To act well, for just one day

I don't mind if they can't see

Just how much she means to me

I still know what I will say

If that girl comes my way

[Chorus]

P is for the painful way she makes me feel some days

U is for Utopia, the other times with her

N is for the new wave dreams she had back in her teens

K is for the kid in her, my P.U.N.K. girl

[Outro]

Painful way...

Utopia...

New wave dreams...

Kid in her...

P.U.N.K. girl!

I generally work songs on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, being for free on Saturdays; my portfolio about such genres is really weak, reason I will for undeterminated time work for free. Requirements: 0 samples, lyrics written for analysis. Analog + plug-ins..

Modern Country Music Is Weak Because Nashville Kills Musicianship Modern Country Music Is Weak Because Nashville Kills Musicianship
discussion

Let’s be honest: modern country is almost entirely written by committees. Most of the “hits” aren’t penned by the artists themselves—they’re churned out in Nashville songwriting factories designed to tick radio boxes, maximize streams, and sell tour tickets. The artist? Often nothing more than a vocal delivery system, a face to perform pre-packaged songs.

Compare that to rock, metal, and pop bands where the musicians make the music. Look at Van Halen: Eddie and Alex Van Halen created the riffs, solos, rhythms, and energy; David Lee Roth’s voice was just one part of a total package. Or Guns N’ Roses: Slash’s guitar is iconic, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum lay the foundation, and Axl Rose’s vocals, while amazing, wouldn’t exist in a vacuum. Queen is another example—Brian May’s guitar, John Deacon’s bass, and Roger Taylor’s drums all shape the sound, often more than Freddie Mercury’s vocals.

Even pop has bands where the singer contributes nothing to songwriting yet the music shines because the band drives it: AC/DC with Brian Johnson or Bon Scott, Kiss with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, Journey with Steve Perry, or Foreigner—the vocalists were often performers of material written entirely by the rest of the band. The songs are memorable because the instrumentalists are doing the real work.

Now look at modern country. With rare exceptions—Zac Brown Band, Turnpike Troubadours, Little Big Town—the instrumental side is generic at best. You almost never hear memorable solos, funky fills, or inventive arrangements. A country “guitar solo” is often a 4-bar filler between verses. Drums and bass are soul-crushingly predictable, and keyboards are vanilla. Compare that to Slash, Eddie Van Halen, or Jimmy Page, and it’s night and day.

Then there’s overproduction: every note is quantized, every vocal pitch-corrected, every mix sterilized. What grit, personality, and raw musicality exist in other genres is replaced with a corporate sheen designed to appeal to the largest middle-of-America demographic. The singer is supposed to emote, but the song itself is lifeless.

This is why modern country songs all sound the same: the “artist” is just a mouthpiece, the session musicians don’t get to shine, and songwriting committees crush individuality. Country could be powerful, but Nashville actively discourages risk, instrumental skill, and collaboration. Until more real bands write their own music and put the instrumentalists on equal footing, country will remain the most formulaic, talent-obscuring genre in modern mainstream music.

**** Edit***

And Morgan Wallen is just discount Jelly Roll (voice anyway). Hell, what does Wallen even sound like on his own? He was on The Voice doing karaoke Howie Day.

As for multiple people writing the songs, that's normal for sure, but shouldn't they be in the band? You have Shane McAnally and Ashley Gorley writing every second "hit".

There's not much too say, I just wanted to come on and say I think EsdeeKid is the new Yeat of 2025. Pretty much all of his songs sound almost identical and he sounds exactly the same in all of them (just like Yeat), He went crazy for a solid few months and now he's already becoming a thing of the past (just like Yeat), Not to mention he dresses so similar to Yeat. Also bear in mind I do actually like Esdee and listen to quite a lot of his tunes but recently I just realised the similarities between the two.

Thank you!

Hi all, There is this Polish song which (im quite sure) uses a melody from an 80s or maybe 90s music song.

It’s mostly about the first 20 seconds which I think to recognise. Does someone recognise it? Thank you so much for your help!

I’m trying to think of how much of an impact a single song can have compared to an entire catalog.

I feel like if Lou Reed had only ever released Pale Blue Eye he would still be renowned for writing one of the greatest songs.

Dylan has so many. If all he put out were Desolation Row or Blowin’ In The Wind he’d still be in the conversation just from those single songs.

I think How Deep Is Your Love is great enough for The Bee Gees or Unsatisfied for Paul Westerberg

Of course The Beach Boys and God Only Knows

How do you keep up with all the new releases? How do you keep up with all the new releases?
discussion

Hey everyone

Lately, i've gotten into a music slump: nothing that really interests me anymore, can't be assed to put in the effort to check a new release from any artist. I'm always returning to 'comfort music' as i call it. Playlists i've been listening to for years, albums i know inside out and such. It's a phase i have from time to time and i'm trying new ways to get through it. This time, i want to try and get through it by deliberately looking up new releases and getting out of my comfort zone.

But there's so much new stuff to discover each friday i just can't keep up. How do you keep up with the interesting stuff? Any newsletters or blogs you like, playlists to keep an eye out for? I'm down for trying whatever!

discussion

I've noticed something strange: whenever I listen to songs on TikTok, they sound fuller, louder, and generally better than when I play the same song locally through music player.

Is TikTok applying some kind of audio processing, compression, EQ, or enhancement that makes everything sound more “polished”? And more importantly—how can I get my local music to sound similar? Are there apps, EQ presets, or settings that can recreate that TikTok-style sound?

I'd appreciate any advice or tools from people who know more about audio processing. Looking for simple solutions or apps that can get me close to that punchy, enhanced TikTok audio quality.

Basically did the Smith split because said lead singer was just becoming an unbearable protentious judgmental knob head.or was it actually amicable?

Think Paul Simon/Art Garfunkel. Simon always gets credit for being the more talented one even though Garfunkel clearly has the superior voice. And Paul Carrack (aka the man with the golden voice) was once described as, “he would be bigger than Phil Collins or Elton John if vocal talent equaled songwriting ability.”
