Staff vending machines
Anyone else's store quietly removed the staff vending machines from their breakroom? Thing they removed them just before Christmas, been a while now. I never used them, never even put money on the card but no notice at all is a dick move for my colleagues who did use them.
Even funnier a couple weeks before they got rid of them they had colleague cards out for people to take if they needed.
I still miss our colleague canteen. Lasagna and chips for 70p.
I've only heard the legends
The legend is true. I remember getting a main and a pudding for £1.20(ish) on nights and they weren't stingy portions either. A choice of dishes and free seconds if there was anything left, plus vending machines full of sandwiches made by the canteen staff, loads of snacks to choose from, hot soup etc. Those were the days!
Oh, yes! I used to finish at 2pm, and I will eat there just after my 8 hour shift (ie dinner for me) just because it was homemade on permises (with what they were allowed to use) and so cheap! When we had a specific cook on, the main dish was really worth to try!
I was so sad coming back from maternity (years ago) and find it all gone!
Still have it at the DC’s although no longer 70p, £1.52 for a main meal now but its edible and a decent size
Ours were sitting emptied since covid, only recently remove from the staff room to the room next to staff room. Presumably to be taken away at some point in the next ten years.
Surprised they're still a thing in my shop. Never ever seen anyone use it. Certainly never used it myself, there's a whole shop downstairs!
Yeah...they'd probably see a lot more use if they were subsidised and at least a bit cheaper than the shop floor

We have a kettle, and a tiny fridge at our OneStop. Our illustrious leaders once said they'd supply food for staff, a kind of unofficial acknowledgement we don't actually get breaks anymore, and they gave us a box of cup-a-soups. Now we can have a small bottle of water. The generosity is staggering.

Ours were all broken and never repaired, one was out of order for three years. All removed just after Christmas. When I started we had a great canteen, full breakfast 15 pence, fruit juice, choice of main course plus choice of dessert for 35 pence.
All of it was made from scratch and was tasty. The good days have truly ended.
And now we can be glad if they keep the fruits and cans stocked in the breakroom. What a joke
Ours were removed some time ago, no one used them especially as they were so overpriced and it was so much cheaper to buy them on the shop floor, never made sense even having them.
yes ours hve now been removed. but they were empty since covid
They started removing them from most stores other year because "no one used them" in reality they just didn't restock them and refused to restock them even with complaints.
Ours is still there in spirit unplugged with a row of very faded orange Doritos
Ours are still technically there although Not plugged in but they are on their sides with a tablecloth over them and used for colleague events such as raffles or bakery products etc for colleagues to consume.
What do you mean quietly? Ours got wheeled off several months ago and the store manager stated it was costing Tesco too much money in electricity to run.
I mean that no one in our store has any idea why they were suddenly gone.
Jesus, it just gets worse. Still got vending machines in DCs and they are subsidised, roughly -50%.
Used to love the night canteen in store. Great cook who couldn’t work the till so anything was 50p!!
Ours have been plugged in but empty for years now.
We got rid of our vending machines years ago, the food was left in them for ages to the point all the products were out of date, it ended up being cleaning staffs job to fill them. But now cleaning staff barely clean! We had our fridge set on fire recently too so staff get fruit, pot noodles, tea and coffee and bread now oh and the odd occasion Halloween Oreos.
Yes. Ours got banned cause the manager would buy packets of Jonnie's and got caught shagging all the colleagues before lunch break
