- Taurine – Cats cannot produce enough taurine, and a deficiency leads to blindness and heart disease. VegeCat™ ensures adequate levels.
- Vitamin A – Cats cannot convert the carotene found in vegetables into vitamin A. They must receive vitamin A directly through their diet, as it naturally occurs only in animal tissues or in supplemented form.
- Vitamin D3 – The formula includes plant-based vitamin D3, which is essential for maintaining bone and immune health.
- Arachidonic Acid (ARA) – A critical nutrient for cats, now included in the updated formula. The ARA is vegan and sourced from Mortierella alpina through fermentation.
- Yeast-Free – Nutritional yeast has been removed, making the supplement completely yeast-free.
- Vegan Vitamin D3 – The VegeCat™ formula uses a fully plant-based D3 source.
- Natural Mixed Tocopherols – Added to support freshness and stability.
- Oxygen Absorbers – Included in packaging to protect nutrients.
- Concentrated Formula – A small amount is required in each recipe (see Duration & Feeding Amounts).
VegeCat™ has been used by the compassionate caretakers of numerous cats throughout the world and over many, many years.
Note: Most recipes still naturally include nutritional yeast for flavour. If your cat prefers it, you can add nutritional yeast alongside VegeCat™ in a 1:1 ratio.
Why prepare homemade cat food with VegeCat™?
1. Complete and balanced nutrition
With VegeCat™, your cat receives a diet that is nutritionally complete when used in the provided recipes.
Without supplementation, homemade cat food may lack essential nutrients such as Taurine, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, and Arachidonic Acid, nutrients that are difficult to supply consistently without a supplement.
2. Full control over ingredients
Homemade meals allow you to choose ingredients your cat enjoys and avoid those they don’t. Examples:
- Include: sweet potatoes, green peas
- Exclude: corn, wheat
3. Variety
Homemade cooking lets you offer different flavours and ingredients, keeping meals exciting and encouraging a good appetite while providing balanced nutrition.
4. Cost-effective
Preparing cat food at home and supplementing with VegeCat™ is one of the most affordable feeding methods. One bottle lasts a long time and is significantly more economical than many commercial kibble options.
Recipes
Use the kibble recipe (in the VegeCat™ instructions) to make delicious kibble. Cut kibble pieces larger or smaller according to the size of your cats. You can certainly have your recipes, but do ensure you add enough Vegecat™.
Duration
400 g (14 oz) bottle:
- 2.2 kg (5 lb) cat – 200 days
- 3.6 kg (8 lb) cat – 130 days
- 4.5 kg (10 lb) cat – 100 days
VegeCat™ and Urinary Health
There are some considerations for urinary health. Cats should have an acidic urine pH of 6.0 to 6.5. It is recommended to test the urine at home or at a veterinarian’s office before switching the diet and about 3 weeks after transitioning to a new diet, then periodically after – twice in the first year and at least yearly after. If alkaline urine is a problem, add cranberry powder or vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to the diet.
