(deleting later) it's something seeing people respond to a callout towards a team behind a popular fangame and their main concern regards being able to still like the game and a character from it and absolutely nothing about the situation itself. so much so that my friend got fucking swatted over it

nobody can ever just talk about ANYTHING anymore. it usually just leads to some insane extreme like this. and i am somehow meant to believe it's just normal and not at all insane. i
it infuriates me so much. The Authority To Like Something is seen as so much more important no matter what. it should never be this serious, and yet here we are. my friend tried to be open and what they got for it was a hearty dox and their family getting swatted. over a fangame. cool.
Toxic Positivity is genuinely at the worst it's ever been in human history and it's the no 1 thing destroying discussion based communities online. Nobody ever says "I'm curious why you think this, Let's talk about it", they always just go "LET PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS, YOU HATE FUN GRAAAH!1!"
people on the internet have been batshit insane for so long that it's easy to let it just fade into the background until it happens to you personally. i wish people were more aware that they're interacting with an actual breathing human and not an internet NPC but most aren't and it is frustrating
