Rye

Rye is an independent English-language VTuber. Originally debuting on Twitch in May 2021 as the tactical-themed Rye Project, she took a hiatus between 2022 and 2024 before returning as the bunny VTuber RyeIsBread.

She streams primarily on Twitch and occasionally on YouTube.

Rye has light green hair with a yellow streak, yellow or green eyes, and floppy bunny ears with a leaf shaped hair clip.

In her previous military persona, she had green eyes and dressed in military gear, including a helmet and firearm, typically a P90.

History[]

Background[]

Before becoming "Rye" in 2021, she spent around a year creating YouTube shitposts and meme videos for herself and friends. She was inspired to take content creation more seriously when some of her videos received around 200 views, and was inspired by a certain hololive member to become a VTuber herself. Her pre-debut streams had as few as 1 viewer, and she was too shy even to talk in GTA collabs.

After joining a Discord server themed around anime and the game Escape from Tarkov, she found art piece called "Tarkov Loli" by @hamsterCrumbs, which inspired her to create a VTuber character based on Tarkov and military themes. She created her own original character based on a Tarkov "scav," which caught the attention of @JiziIzum, VTuber model artist for other tactical VTubers. Rye had a model for her original VTuber character, "Rye the Breb," drawn by Jizi and rigged by @hamsterCrumbs.

Rye's Twitch channel was created on 19 Mar 2021, originally as "rye_project". Her YouTube channel was created on 26 March 2021, originally as "Rye Project Ch." Her original Twitter account, @RyeProject, was created in the same month.

Rye officially debuted on Twitch on 31 May 2021 at 2PM PST. The stream reached a peak viewership of 216.

2021[]

On 15 June, Rye reached 1,000 Twitch followers.

Around 16 July, Rye reached 1,000 YouTube subscribers.

2022[]

On 13 February, Rye reached 5,000 Twitch followers.

Following a stream on 31 October, Rye took a long hiatus from streaming on Twitch.

2023[]

In November, she created a new Twitter account, @BreadIsRye.

2024[]

On 26 February, Rye made her first Twitch stream since 2022.

On 2 May, she opened her Discord server, the Bread Bank. Around this time, she began to rebrand from a military VTuber to a new bunny-eared model. Her reasons for doing so include losing the files for the original model, and a desire to appeal to a broader audience. She did not yet have a VTuber model for her new form, which was expected to take some time.^[1][2]

Between 23 May and 2 June, Rye reached 10,000 Twitch followers, receiving a sudden spike in viewers.

On 28 June, she began a hiatus, lasting until the end of July.^[3] She returned with a Twitch stream on 4 August.

On 5 August, she created the Rye Archived YouTube channel.

2025[]

On 12 April, Rye held her official debut stream.^[4]
