A while back, my friend Sara went out with this guy who did everything right.

He brought flowers on the first date. Told her she was beautiful five minutes in. Texted good morning and goodnight every single day. Wanted to know what she was doing, where she was going, who she was with – constantly. “He’s just really nice,” she said at first.

Three weeks later? She felt suffocated, emotionally drained, and low-key creeped out. Here’s the truth: sometimes what looks like “nice” is control, insecurity, or manipulation in disguise.

So let’s talk about it.

Here are 7 red flags that pretend to be “just being too nice” – but aren’t.

1. They compliment you… excessively, and too early

“You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met.”

“You’re different. Special. Perfect.” – on day two.

Sweet? Maybe.

Genuine? Rarely.

Red flag: Love bombing. It’s intense, overwhelming praise meant to fast-track intimacy. Real connection takes time. You’re not a soulmate – you’re a target for their fantasy.
