this is probably the most i've questioned having an online presence in a very long time.
things are screwed. i don't know if there's even a way forward at this point
as much as it pains me to say it, the fascists have won this battle.
@esm is everything ok? wanna talk?
@esm
essem, they'll only truly win the overall battle if you give up hope. sure, bluesky might be a lost cause but you have this, you have people caring for you here, you have a whole community of people who enjoy this place you've made. the fediverse is still here and ready to be better than ever.
@nerm_nelly the microblogging fediverse is actively shedding people, hasn't had any meaningful development since at least 2023 beyond playing catch-up, is filled with the worst people imaginable that nobody ever does anything about (and that part is even starting to become known outside of here!), is still a UX nightmare no matter what software you use, and has a reputation (because of the above and more) that is so sour that people effectively use "mastodon user" like a slur on other networks and actively tell large audiences to stay away
i have barely any hope left for the future of this network. we had multiple chances despite the above and we blew them all, and now we don't have any left
@esm I see... so what will happen now?
@nerm_nelly i don't know. that's the problem.
@snugglybun to be fair I would break away from the internet slowly, but I have zero, and I mean zero local support groups. none. I am basically chained to it.
@snugglybun fair, I generally think people care more about me on Discord than on public social media, but I still wish I was in active, but smaller servers that are just cozy, generalized friend groups. I feel like those are hard to find.
@esm i'm sorry for wasting your money by using wetdry.world
i came here from tumblr because of the awful moderation and (the last straw) training the torment nexus on users unless they opt out. tumblr was pretty nice aside from the awful parts (they call it "hellsite (affectionate)" for a reason). someone else put it as "the only social media i've used where i didn't feel like i was actively drinking poison."
i'd heard of wetdry.world from a meme so i went with it. since then, it's been okay. i attribute the not-great-ness to
i see people complain about issues like mastodon/fedi having the worst people ever and racism and such, which personally i haven't seen. maybe wetdry.world is moderated competently, maybe i just have somehow managed to not find that stuff, maybe i myself am one of those bad people so i think the other bad people are normal. i dunno. i see vague posts about that sort of drama all the time without knowing WHAT THE HELL THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT IT'S SO ANNOYING anyway,
seeing The Events happen depresses me, as someone who isn't even actively involved (yet? it's taking some restraint not to yap about my own idea for a social media software which i think would be really cool but really isn't relevant) in trying to build better online spaces. it must be very hard to see assholes seemingly ruin all of what you've put so much into. i hope you, as a person, can make it through this and be okay no matter what that looks like, and we as people who like touching keyboards on occasion will eventually have a better future too.
thank you for wetdry.world at least. i can least say for sure it's been my least actively-user-hostile social media experience so far other than planetminecraft.
no don't give them that win, ever
@esm they haven't, but they want you to think they have, so we surrender
@Glasgow161 what tools in this regard do we have left? this network is a mess, bluesky has ended up Like That, and everywhere else has either shuttered completely or is operated largely by the fascists
@Glasgow161@climatejustice.social @esm@wetdry.world Agreed - The thing is that even with progressive/leftist spaces being unable to compete with Big-tech equivalents (in terms of user growth), you could still vibe in these spaces. Bluskey was the platform that attracted the artists and influencers, but Fedi and its small communities still has felt like the best place for sharing others' cool works and expressing my ideas (especially in more than 300 characters lol)
@radmin @Glasgow161 i really, really wish i could agree with anything positive that people have said to me so far today about this network
@esm @radmin @Glasgow161 I actually dont know what to say
