Avoid CodecGuide.com KLite Codec Pack
So I asked in the codec guide forum why their codec pack installs infatica p2b and got a seeming hostile response then thread locked.
Apparently, I chose to agree to the installation and its my fault. And while I have no recollection of agreeing to the install and would normally agree with the response in less dodgy situation, the fact they are knowingly bundling malware into their pack and then get mad at the question like its the end-users fault for them bundling known malware into their program.
so, my advice, and i see it a lot around reddit, is to avoid codecguide.com for media player needs at all costs.
It's likely intentional, and It is also likely how they generate a revenue stream. This is why they got hostile and shut you down.
Just a little background because I "grew up" around these packs. These things have had a religious following a decade or two ago because it was such a PITA to keep up with all the codecs and folks started to package them up.KLite was a pretty big/common one and had a lot of followers.
So a few things that I would say make people upset:
Lots of folks (especially those engaged enough to be mods/admins) are so engaged that if you call their baby ugly they get really upset
Probably the community thinks it's fine to install these things for some money for those who maintain the package
This probably happens all the time and people post similar things and they got tired of it
Again: it's a clear sign that whoever this happens to is an "outsider" so it's a great way to all gang up and call someone stupid
I do agree that it's your "fault" for accepting something and getting it installed, and I hope you learn and pay more attention going forward rather than be dismissive of this brash treatment. However you have a point that includingadware in your software package is really bad practice and let's get real: it's there because they hope people just next, next, finish through their installation.
there must be some a/b installers or something because i tried to find it in the full and mega versions and couldnt. It didnt show up at any point in the install process and it never installed the thing
If you choose the Mega one, do NOT select all! Skip the promotion!
i installed the mega pack in normal and advanced and never saw any promotion at all nor did it install anything the op said
It seems the offer was added recently.

What do you need a codec pack for? With free players such as VLC or PotPlayer you can play almost any video format without any problems.
And I believe you can download the most common codecs for the Photos app for free in the Windows store.
I can't remember ever using the Windows Photos app in the last years. I've always used IrfanView. It displays every image format including RAW files. Besides, I can send images directly from it to up to 3 different image editing programs.
