bros, what are good entry-level strategy games (both turn-based and real time) for someone who finds the genre inherently stressful? There's so much cool shit out there, but the moment I have to start making decisions and/or direct my little dudes, I start thinking about missing info or screwing my future self with bad decisions..
>>
10 Min Space Strategy is my go-to recommendation for people who never played the genre. The AI is laidback enough that even my gf who never played a 4X game in her life thought it was too easy ot win. But it'll teach you the fundementals: explore, expand, exploit and exterminate.

Civ 2 and some newer RTS with active pause like they are billions or something.
>>
You just play the popular titles and roll with it - that's what everyone here started from. Most strategy games only seem difficult, they come with in-game tutorials, and if you struggle with a particular scenario, look up a guide. Though for a first-timer you probably want to avoid hardcore sims and wargames.

>Turn Based
You can't go wrong with the classic Westwood, Command and Conquer - Red Alert.
It's a more refined version if Dune II/C&C which set the template for every RTS to follow and as such isn't overly complicated in its mechanics compared to their modern derivatives. I would suggest playing through the campaign (on easy) before jumping in to skirmish. There's a free version, OpenRA, out there is you're playing on the cheap.

>Turn based (4x)
Star Trek: Birth of the Federation. It could be nostalgia talking but it's not overly complex and the AI isn't prone to overwhelming you. Just be sure to turn off random events, a Borg incursion can easily wreck your empire, of course sometimes it goes the other way and they'll wipe out the enemy...

What do you like about strategy game? Knowing which aspects you like might help with recommendations.

Pit people is the only turn-based strategy that I managed my exes to even try based on the art style alone, so this is a good entry I suppose.
Probably some city builder would be a gateway drug too.

Check out my star wars thread. I'm doing fine in that game so far and I'm shit at RTS.

To elaborate why I think it would be a good option for somebody like you:
1) You can alter game speed in settings. Slow speed makes the game really slow allowing plenty of time for reaction;
2) If that’s not enough you can also pause the game and issue commands while it’s paused;
3) The game is generally not micro heavy. During combat, the units would automatically target something they are most effective against and the units with active abilities are very rare exceptions. You mostly have to just bring correct units for the job and watch the fireworks;
4) Units and buildings hardly take any damage from anything that is not specifically made to counter them. That means that your base won’t get ganked by tier 1 troops or some other similar things, because they would barely be able to deal damage to it even in large numbers. This also applies to vehicles; only anti-vehicle units would be able to deal proper damage to them. Siege weapons are not available until late game, so you absolutely have some time to build up stuff even if you don’t know what you are doing. Defensive buildings are also very strong in that game, so turtling is very effective.

I had a similar issue as you do regarding RTS and you just have to accept that it’s alright to fail. Each time I had one of those brainfart moments while playing RTS I recalled my repeated failures at games I’m now good at and it helped me to relax.

Honestly? None. You should play vidya to enjoy yourself.

War in the East 2, Shadow Empire.

Age 3 def edition or age of mythology retold. 2 is frustrating
Anno games are chill in sandbox and usually the campaigns are cool too

Try Knights of Honor 2. It's a great entry-level grand strategy, pretty soulful as well.

I've been playing phantom brigade and it might be something you'd like.
The gimmick is it's turn based where each turn is played out in 5 second chunks, and you have a predictive AI that gives you perfect information for each turn. You also build and equip vaguely front mission esque mechs to work into what each mission requires.

the warcraft series ans starcraft and that hard.
age of empires

nu xcom
heroes of might and magic 3
populus the beginning

if rts too stresful go with the sims stuff
dungeon keeper
evil genius
children of the nile
>>2261001
command and conquer gets pretty hard unless you are a seasoned rts player.

Why do russians think about trannies all the time?
Why do they have 50 different words for being the bottom in gay prison buttsex specifically?
>>
>>2260814 (OP)
Ahh Rock Raiders. What a great game. Looking back it was much ahead of its time. The colony sim genre would lay dormant for more than a decade until Rimworld put it back in the mainstream.

Go play the remastered version, it's free, it's called Manic Miners. Heaps of fun.

I think Master of Magic (the classic one, with community patches) is a reasonably good entry into the TBS genre.

game is very easy on ui and control scheme as its designed for console.
there are two asymetrical factions, with each faction having 3 commanders that change minor things about factions.
campaign is easy
OST is nice, standard Halo Gregorian choir chants and rock n roll music.

>>2268891
It also happens to be pure weapons grade dogshit
>>
>>2268948
i mean its decent as entry to RTS genre as whole.
>>
>>2260814 (OP)
Start with Brood War until you can't take the bullshit so every other RTS feels easy by comparison.
>>
>>2260814 (OP)
>>2260814 (OP)
The best entry level tbs is chess, unironically.
>simple rules
>small number of units to command
>can adjust starting time to whatever length you want to give yourself plenty of time to think
>lots of free resources teaching you how to play
>teaches you mental fortitude because you can be completely winning the whole game then immediately lose because of one mistake
For rts, I'd say aoe2 because it has a tutorial teaching you basic build orders and allows you to drill them and a very robust selection of single player campaigns and a scenario editor. You don't have to ever touch multiplayer if you don't want to. You can take it easy learning build orders and key bindings until you get pretty comfortable with the multi-tasking and situational awareness needed to be competent at rts.

A game that's very comfy, real time, a mix between RTS and RPG: Spellforce
