Lu Xun once said something that has stuck with me for years:

“Life is measured in units of time. Wasting someone else’s time is tantamount to stealing their money. Wasting your own time is slow-motion suicide.”

1. Using mindless entertainment to numb your brain

When your brain gets used to being stimulated every 15 seconds, it loses the ability to think deeply — permanently.

Think about it:

  • You open your phone just to relax for “10 minutes,” and suddenly, two hours have disappeared.
  • You start a video game for “just one round” before work, only to realize you’ve blown through half your morning.

The problem isn’t the entertainment itself. It’s the long-term damage to your focus, your attention span, and your ability to engage with the real world.
