About This Game
REMAINS is a mix of genres with its core as a platformer: side view, familiar game mechanics (jumping, climbing stairs). A rich arsenal of weapons plus fights being a crucial part of the game give you vibes of 2D-shooter. Finally, you can take it as a roguelike game with exploring procedurally generated locations, picking locks, gathering loot, leveling up and learning new skills/perks, crafting, trading, etc.
The amount of content right now is huge: several large locations with numerous kinds of rooms, almost a hundred types of enemies, about two hundred types of weapons and explosives, dozens of spells, more than sixty perks and plenty of other things. The development is complete, but new versions may appear in the future.
Extra content
- Reforged - A mod that changes many aspects of the game and fixes bugs, made by Kostr184.
- Extra bunker Rooms - a mod that adds new rooms in military base locations, made by convetangent.

This is easily my favorite fan project/indie game ive played in YEARS. I'm already hours into it and found myself telling my friends to check it out and go play it right now. it scratches itches I have head for years and couldnt get a fix for! but, that being said, this game does have problems big ones. the rest of this review will be dedicated to those BUT i want it to be said that these small complaints I have are pale to how much fun I was having with this game.
Firstly: the map.
I have been playing this game for hours and STILL im exploring the map should not be this big, especially as the first zone of the game after the tutorial, you dont need to have the location splided into zones. I liked exploring topside, I liked how the game was leading on that I'd be fighting more than just But I'm already at level 8 and still stuck exploring this place.
Secondly: damage.
I get it, the wastelands a cruel place. but a regular healing potion should fix the player up more than getting shot maybe once or twice. And stepping on ONE landmine shouldnt make the player have to RTB to see the Doc. If you want the game to be harder, make it wide. not tall. introduce hunger, make the player pick some traits at the start. have special weapon variants be locked to completing quest, not behind a locked safe. Opening a door to a spider mine, jumping down a whole straight into turrents, all these things are way - way to punishing. I dont know if death is meant to be anything more than just going back to your checkpoint but to me it feels harsh. Like I lost a lot more than a chunk of HP.
Third: OC or Littlepip?
I get that his game is meant to have you play basically as Littlepip, but its odd that it still includes a decent customization feature if the talking head in the interface is still Littlepip. I think the game would benefit a ton if you could change your cutie mark with a custom PNG file or if the talking head icons where modified to change to the gradient colors players set for their manes and bodies. It also would help if those traits I mentioned earlier where added. Traits play a HUGE role in making characters feel alive in any RPG.
Other than these complaints, this game is amazing. I am having a ton of fun with it and throwing crates at raiders is always a good time.

Fonts do not render correctly on Linux with Proton no matter what I've tried. (Installing the fonts i presume the game to use, Protontricks, Regedit, etc)
Which safe to say is quite an issue for an rpg.
Any help would be appreciated but I feel the only way to get any attention on a game this niche is to leave a negative review with comments open. </3
Edit: Found *a* solution, it's something, at least!

played this game long before the steam release loved it then and still love it now, it always amazes me how small groups of rando's outperform the bigwigs and it's hard to get much smaller than this

i have loved my little pony since the dawn of time and have enjoyed playing little flash games here and there regarding mlp. however this game is truly a step above the rest. i found this game so entertaining. for being completely free and fandom based, this game has numerous locations, bosses, so many characters and an impressive, consistent storyline. i have never finished a game before like i have this one. the quests are so enriching and even the dialogue is fun to read.
i would say this game is definitely not easy. the game likes to jump scare you with a bunch of enemies shooting at you out of nowhere, which can lead to some stressful deaths. however i can truly say that this game is pretty balanced nd the animations are wonderfully smooth.
if you're looking to sink your teeth into a cute but bloody game featuring the worlds favorite ponies, please o ahead and download this game.

This game feeds all of my masochistic needs.
Once you feel like you are finally getting stronger and can control the situation, you get a kick on the flanks and are sent back to the humiliation zone.
Despite the game being an alternative take on Littlepip's story, it actually makes me feel like a fully functional Blackjack; blame myself for failing, get drunk, blame myself more, cry a river, drink again, leave the mattress and get back to it, push it over and over until finally winning, and then losing some more.
Solid 20/10. Easily one of my favorite games now.

How is a free game so good? Creative, roguelike-ish, good graphics, plays better than its inspiration

I love this game. I played it back when it was in Alpha and Beta, but not as a tester.
It's everything I like in a classic game going screen to screen to clear it, only a bit better because it saves the rooms you leave as you leave them, not respawning enemies.
The weapons, the items, the in world terminology... it's all on point.
Anyone that knows, or even that don't, the Fallout Equestria timeline or story will like this, I believe.
