"health at every size" doesn't even mean "every body of any size is healthy". it's about healthcare access, this is easy to google and seems ridiculously uncontroversial to me
why yes i do think someone who's 1200 pounds fat and can't walk or clean themselves deserves healthcare access, even if they don't want to lose weight, even if they got that fat on purpose, even if they want to get fatter. fat people deserve comfort and health at any size it's pretty simple
We reread the manga a lot, so my hot take on Shadow is that he’s not secretly a good guy the whole time, nor like a fully evil dude who never cared about Vio. He;
- Only recently come into existence.
- Is somewhat distanced from the unusual constraints of mortality and the physical world. (My guy is CONSTANTLY, casually ignoring gravity and only light really seems to hurt him.)
- Is jealous of what Link gets to have. (Acknowledgment! Human connection and pride in what he is!)
- Has his initial goals outlined by Ganondorf and Vaati. (Taking over the world and crushing your enemies is good and fun, Shadow! Of course that should be his ambition even if he discards his masters!)
- Is reasonably anxious and precious about an artifact that literally keeps him alive.
- (While paradoxically being super willing to show off the precious because he’s also a dramatic bastard who wants to display how cool and powerful he is at every opportunity ever.)
Part of the point of him is that even though he’s been set up to be an evil villain bastard, he’s capable of doing better, right? Hence why he chooses to smash the mirror.
So when he does does stuff like “doesn’t ask if Vio is okay after a literal death battle,” I get the feeling that it’s less about “never cared about Vio” and more about “doesn’t find it intuitive to consider how this would physically or emotionally affect Vio.”
My man does not know what a healthy friendship is, but he craves being seen!
Which really sets him up for failure when the first person he gets close to comes from the enemy side. Of course he’s gonna have a weird, hot-cold relationship there — the heroes are supposed to kill him. Of course he’s going to mistake the coercive situation he put Vio into for actual friendship — Shadow set it up so that he felt safe, and he has no idea where Vio’s coming from emotionally.
(Vio, however, seems to understand where Shadow is coming from by the end of it all.)
Ultimately, what Shadow knows during the mirror confrontation is that he went to a lot of pain to test Vio’s loyalty by his own twisted standards, and Vio betrayed him anyway.
None of this dismisses his actions.
But it does explain him from a perspective with more dimension than just “of course Shadow acted monstrously; he is one.”

I really think we should see more of that dragon. There was only one appearance or something and that's really sad because dragons are super cool :(
pixar really made 2 movies back to back about how when children lie to or run away from their parents it's the parent's fault always for not believing in the agency and autonomy of a child and also the children are non-human beasties who have to reclaim their animalistic forms for themselves. and then they made lightyear

peanutbutterspoonReblogged pocket-deer-bellyrogue-ai-catFollowThe thing is, even if you were lucky and your parents taught you how to clean, they probably didn't teach you how to clean the stuff you clean stuff with, like brushes, mops, sponges, rags, and so on. Or how to clean your cleaning appliances, like a dish washer, clothes washing machine, and clothes dryer and its ducts (if you have a ducted dryer), or a carpet cleaner, vacuum, Or how to clean up clean messes, like spilled bleach or detergent. My parents threw away all of these things (even the vacuum cleaners and the dryer) when they got too dirty to function, because no one even told them THAT they could be cleaned. Cost them thousands of dollars over the years. All I'm saying is that cleaning is not intuitive, and not knowing how to clean is not a moral failing, but it is something you can learn.I'm going to reblog this post with resources for learning how to clean things and how to clean cleaning things (I'm not at my desk at the moment). If you have any favorites, please feel free to add them in too! rogue-ai-catI like this video because it does a great job of introducing the basic foundations of house cleaning (and because he doesn't use bleach, which is a common allergy in addition to being awful to inhale). He also talks a little about how to clean a vacuum. And why you shouldn't put grease from your pots and pans down the sink drain. I also love that he mentions that different houses and different people have different needs and different versions of what clean and cleaning looks like. He doesn't mention though that the toilet seat comes off. I take my toilet seat off to clean under the hinges and clean the seat more thoroughly once a quarter. rogue-ai-catThis is another video from the same guy about cleaning and depression. This advice, especially at the beginning, can feel really really difficult and oppressive to hear. However, I find that it's generally pretty solid. But I'm autistic and so is he, so that gets a massive Your Mileage May Vary stamp on it. I have a favorite part of this video. It's from 10:52 to 12:36. I think we could all use to hear that. There's a HEFTY pause after that one. I promise the narration does come back. I'm also going to recommend KC Davis' book "How To Keep House While Drowning"rogue-ai-catThis is a pair of videos about how to correctly load and use a dish washer. The first one is a quick 1 minute 30 second overview on loading. I can't find the exact video I'm looking for, so consider this a substitute for that. If I can find the one I'm looking for, I'll swap it in. The second is a half hour deep dive on dishwashers and detergents. The short form of that is you shouldn't need to pre-rinse anything, detergent pods are overpriced and can cause problems, some dishwashers have a filter in the bottom that needs to be cleaned (but most don't), run your sink until the water is HOT before starting your dish washer, and put a little detergent in the pre-rinse dispenser when you're washing extra dirty dishes (or on the inside of the door if your dishwasher doesn't have a pre-rinse dispenser).rogue-ai-catFavorite Scrub Brushes + How to Clean Them - Clean MamaFavorite Scrub Brushes + How to Clean Them. I have to unclog the vacuum less often. It fluffs up some of the flat spots in the carpet. And I also use the brush to shampoo my rugs in the spring. A spot cleaner (or a carpet cleaner with a spot cleaner attachment) is another life saver, ESPECIALLY if you can afford to splurge on a heated one. peanutbutterspoonReblogged hbmmastermyceliyolkFollowreminder that "allies welcome" was once secret code for "those not out yet can still participate without putting themselves at risk", and for those who aren't out yet to comfortably exist in these spaces you have to let allies exist in those spaces too.meeks-peaksthis is also important for queer people who don't know anyone else there. let them bring their friend, even if the friend is cishet. many would rather not go at all, rather than go somewhere alone. thesealfriendIt is always better to let respectful cishets into our spaces than to try and police who is queer enough to be allowed. beaniebaneenieWhen I was in high school (2004 - 2008, not that long ago), we had exactly one out person. One.We also didn't have a Gay Straight Alliance chapter yet. Virtually every support group you could find, even in navy blue states, was a local chapter of the GSA. You were much more likely to find that acronym than LGBTQ+.Our school decided we wanted one, but we wanted to be inclusive, because we knew there were other letters. We called our group "Spectrum", because it would cover everyone, including allies. It took three meetings in front of the school's board of directors to get permission for the club to exist. Again, this was a private school, in a mid-Atlantic state that has been navy blue and "progressive" for decades (even at that point).Other than the one (1) kid who was out? Every single other member said we were Allies.Nearly 20 years later, almost every single one of us is out as some flavor of queer.A lot of us knew we were huge supporters of queer rights, we just didn't quite know all the reasons why yet. Asexuality wasn't discussed the way it is now, neither was any type of gender nonconformity. Hell, bisexuality was barely acknowledged, and even then it was mostly only given a nod as "girls who turn guys on by kissing girls" (biphobia was strong, and unfortunately still is).Making sure allies have a space at our table ensures that people have the space to explore their own identity, to question if one of our labels might work for them too. It also allows people who may have some baked-in prejudices realize that those prejudices are wrong. That we're not evil and hateful, that we are actually pretty nice and friendly. One time, some friends and I were at a pretty famous local gay bar, and this guy walked in looking like he was ripped out of the pages of Redneck Magazine. He looked super uncomfortable, but he was polite to the hostess and she sat him alone, near us. A lot of people were tense, and watching him out of the corner of our eyes, because we all knew what happened at Pulse. But one of my friends is the person who knows absolutely everyone and goes out of their way to make new friends. He's also a cis straight guy. He leans over, compliments the guy's Carhartt jacket, and asks if he's ever been to the place before. The guy, who is still kind of tense, says his name is Johnny and no, he's never been to no queer bar before, but his sister just came out to the family. Their parents were awful about it, and while he "didn't understand it", he didn't think his sister should be disowned and hated the thought of seeing her cry, so he wanted to try and understand.I remembered the story that's made the rounds here- about the guy named Earl who went to a drag show and everyone made him feel welcome because they knew he needed to have a good time to prove we queer folks were safe.So I invited Johnny to sit with us. "It's more fun than sitting alone. Here, have some of my fries, I'm probably not going to finish them anyway."He sat at our table, and when he found out that my friend was also a cis straight guy, he visibly relaxed. So did a lot of other patrons, once they realized he wasn't there to cause violence. Over the next few hours, he ate great food, had a couple beers, clapped and smiled at the drag shows, and asked a LOT of questions. At first, he was using language we might call "un-PC" (the kind that would get you cancelled on this webbed site). But he realized we were using different words, and asked. He asked why the old words were wrong, why the newer ones were right, and how not to be offensive. The staff found out what was going on, and eventually a card got passed around the whole joint and everyone wrote supportive messages for Johnny's sister Lila. This big tough man felt safe enough to cry a little in front of us queer strangers, because we instantly accepted his sister as one of our own, as family, even though we'd never met her.I'd later found out from the staff that Johnny had returned, more than once. A couple times with Lila herself, and a couple times with his friends... who were gruff and suspicious at first, but won over by the end of the night. We need to be a safe space for allies. For people who may not use all the Correct And Accepted Special Words but genuinely want to understand and accept us. As someone who is both asexual and nonbinary, I felt way safer with Johnny (despite him using outdated terminology for a while) than I do with a lot of people on THIS QUEER ASS WEBSITE.Allies are sometimes members of the family that don't even know they're in the closet yet, because they don't know the closer includes people like them.Allies are sometimes people who don't know the right words or behaviors, but still want to support someone they love.Scooting over and making a safe, welcoming space for allies will always be important. And it will help us get closer to that world of acceptance we want to see.10633,29639,019
