Survive is weird. I see where they're going with and I don't think it's "bad". I quite like it but you can tell this should've REALLY been an anime rather than a game. There's a lot of meandering but the actual background lore, scenarios and characters are fine. It's just....nothing really happens most of the time. I think the main issue is that if they're going to do this "survival" gimmick. They need some sort of end goal type scenario. Yes to go home but DeSu had the 7 day limit. This? They want to get home but they don't even really have clues or know how to get home, there's no growing tension except wanting to get home and the MASTER (somewhat) but it's not like the MASTER is actively chasing them so you just get a lot of them waddling around and that kinda sucks for a game.

One of the most nuance defenses I saw of it on xitter came from a normally-parody account.

I can imagine the mood during GG's planning stage was even worse because of the then-ongoing Dimensions disaster.
How do you explain to boomer otaku who think Alternative is the end-all be-all of Muv-Luv that the concept of disregarding the original series which in part caused Immortals and Dimensions to tank could make Girls Garden a success simply because the latter opted to finally go all-in on OCs?
In some ways we're lucky they conceded in favor of limiting appearances of the originals to collabs.
I want to hope that this event will wrap up the initial mystery regarding its connection to mainline Muv-Luv but knowing Tashiro hasn't been whipped enough yet I fear they'll try to make this a big event.
If Girls Garden survives this unintended assassination attempt I can already imagine them trying to use it to prop up the main series like having a Tactics: Resonative trailer release alongside a TDA collab.

How long have you been Muv-Luv fans? I have a feeling that Muv-Luv is supported by boomers alone, as it struggles to attract new fans. I personally got into Muv-Luv in 2021, and played the VNs between June and July of 2021. However, since early 2022 I haven't paid much attention to it.

One of the strangest aspects about this franchise's history is that for as many explosively high budget VNs as it's had, there's barely anything in terms of manga adaptations. Schwarzesmarken is a prequel set in post WW2 germany, but it remains untranslated and reading it you can really feel the financial struggles the company was already going through. Anime is trash.
The Day After is an episodic release that tells the story of what happened in the unlimited timeline before Takeru looped, but he's not the protagonist. I like it the most out of the 3, but it has remained unfinished for over a decade and will likely forever remain that way. Original writer isn't even working on it anymore.

If you want more Extra, the photonmelodies short story collection has a segment that basically continues Alternative's epilogue for a while. That version cut out all the adult content though.
