Continuing my LED bulb posts... I switched my regular H4 headlight bulbs to LED, but over the years they die, discontinue, or I upgrade, etc., and I get new ones. It's helpful to note which bulbs are known to work, in order to re-buy the same, or help someone else pick. It's also nice to note which ones DON'T work, or have other issues, so you can save other memebers a headache. The most recent post by me towards the end of the thread should always note my "best" bulb from my testing/experience. Sometimes I’ll post a bulb I’m still testing so you can see all your options, but rest assured, I will update immediately if I find issues with it.

Important General Note #1 for anybody looking at the switch:
There are now 2 general designs for these bulbs. (see google sample pics below)

1. cooling fan sticking out the back end of the bulb

2. cooling fan integrated or eliminated
(new in recent years)

DO NOT buy bulb sets with the fan sticking out the back. Your headlight housing won’t seal correctly and will have more water inside than out. I tried cutting the round rubber dust cover/seals to fit, with no luck. Differing opinions welcome, but give me a chance to finish the thread first.

Important General Note #2 for anybody looking at the switch:
Remember to look for bulbs that are “hi/lo” (regular AND high beam). There are some single function bulbs out there and it would be really easy to click the wrong thing if the seller has both hi/lo and single of the same
bulb.

^01. [~$100] Hikari (black box) “Vision Plus”, 15,000lm, 30w, ?? canbus,
Hikari Wings (Amazon) ((discontinued, see upgrades below))

These worked just fine, but upgraded to the new version below.

^02. [~$100] Hikari (white box) “Ultra Focus” <- PREVIOUS WINNER (focus)

These worked just fine, but upgraded to the new version below.

^03. [~$100] Hikari (purple box) “Hyper Star” <- PREVIOUS WINNER (brightness)
22,000lm, 32w, ?? canbus,
Hikari Wings (Amazon) ((likely discontinued, see upgrades below))

This was my current set and I was very happy, but a bulb went out (still under warranty). Seller has always been great with warranty but is having supply issues and has no replacement bulbs available. They also don’t have the upgrade “Future” set available so I can’t upgrade either.

Note: Amazon says these do NOT fit Element, but THEY DO. The issue is just working the bulb spring/clip over the larger square base.

^04. [~$045] Hikari (red/black box) “2023/2025 Core”, 20,000lm, 45w, ?? canbus, 6000k
Hikari Wings (Amazon)

I tried this set and compared to my remaining “03.” above. I felt like there was a HUGE difference in brightness, so I returned this set to Amazon. These were noticeably not as bright.

^05. [~$130] Hikari (red patterned box) “2023/2025 Future”, *80,000lm, 65w, ?? canbus, 6000k
Fahren (Amazon)

I bought this set in case “05.” never becomes available, also hoping it would be a better result altogether. Well.. somehow it’s dimmer than “03.”. However the high beam is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. So I don’t understand the low of the low beam.

^07. [$064-$080] Auxbeam 2024, 30,000lm, 120w, MOST canbus, 6500k
Auxbeam (Amazon)

I bought this set in case “05.” never becomes available, also hoping it would be a better result altogether. Well.. somehow it’s dimmer than “03.”
and ”06.”.

I like the 6500k of these better than the 6500k of set “06.” above. These look white and make those look a bit yellow.

As a headlight (looking at), it wasn’t as bright as set “06.”. But if I compare the projected light on a target, these look brighter. I think it’s just the whiter 6500k playing mind games.

These were actually fine for the first week of testing. but then started flickering all the time. The other bulbs don’t flicker at all. I’m not interested in adding more hardware to stop a flicker so I ended the test and calling it a fail.

I’m confused, who won?

Totally understandable. Availability problems are messing up my testing. From what YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY right now, I’d say “06. Fahren” is the winner.

What if everything was available? I really still like my “03.” bulb more than “06.”. So the next test would be “03.” vs. “05.”. Being the upgrade of the same set from the same company, I would hope the “05.” wins. After that, maybe I start looking at a few suggestions from other E drivers that have comparable specs bulbs.

I've had these for 4 yrs. Awesome lights, nice beam pattern. Never been "flashed" by on coming traffic. No problems so far. Lifetime warranty.

sorry if this posts multiple times. Every time I hit submit it vanishes.

Four years without a failure makes the price make sense.
How are they only 4100 lm???? then why do they need the fans?
Do they need the anti-flicker accessory?

Those are the ones I installed in my Element when I bought it two months ago. Easiest upgrade ever, just remove old bulb and install new one.

And here's a picture showing the LED pattern with my new Yellow and White LED Fog Lights. They really improve surrounding scenery. especially at the sides where deers often suddenly come out of at night. The supplementary beams can be adjusted up or down, I prefer down (the white beam increase the intensity of the lower part of the low beam and the yellow is just below that) as it suits our small winding country road conditions the best. If you're interested in a write up on that mod from the factory OEM fog lamps, please let me know.

Excellent post. I want to get back to more comparison photos like you are, but I’ve been going through too many bulbs and mixed up my photos.

But which ones are those? I don’t see a Fonowka on Amazon.
