INTERVIEWInterview

Takumi Motobu

Please tell us about your encounter with art.

When I was in elementary and junior high school, I was praised for drawing, and since I was in junior high school, my dream of becoming a designer has gradually become stronger. When I became a high school student, I went to cram school with the intention of designing, but I thought that oil painting was the most suitable way to express myself further, because design was a type of work that drank the client's requirements, so I thought that oil painting was the most suitable way to express myself further.3I started studying from the year. Fortunately, I was able to enter Musashino Art University as an active worker, and I have been painting oil paintings ever since.

What kind of themes and motifs do you pay attention to in your works?

I believe that the charm of painting is that it can bring out the charm of the motif itself, so I try to see through and express the personality and personality of the subject person, and if it is an animal, the kindness and heart of the animal. I have always liked animals, but there is an elderly couple who have a dog next door, and I like zoos and aquariums, so I sometimes go there to observe them, and I reflect this in my works. I am also looking forward to creating fish works that people have never drawn before. In addition, we sometimes receive requests for drawings from people who have pets, and the point is to draw not only the pet but also the owner's love as a set.

In the first place, the same motif2、3Rather than drawing every time, I always want to challenge myself to draw new motifs and creatures. My point of appeal is to draw creatures that I have to draw in a difficult way or that no one else would work with. While focusing on bringing out the characteristics and kindness of each animal and person, I would like to reflect my own personality in my work.

Is there a work that you feel the most rewarded with?

Is it a picture of birds, especially birds of prey and cranes? I like to depict their lives. In particular, the image of them living strong in the wild is very beautiful, and I feel that drawing gives me courage. I really like the amazing way that wild birds live independently, which is different from pets and animals kept in zoos.

When do you get inspired?

The most common thing is to look at the Internet and create ideas. There are many people who take photos and upload them, and I often see such things, but I also think that photos do not have the same dissemination power as paintings. I am convinced that if I turn it into a picture and give it shape, it will transform into something very valuable and valuable even if I display it in a room.

I myself don't look at photos much when I draw. When I go for a walk, or go to a zoo or aquarium, I feel like I suddenly remember the motif. It is not interesting to draw pictures as they are, so I do ecological research on animals, etc., hammer them into my brain, and draw while remembering their movements.

You can remember it quite a bit just by looking at it, so you can remember the moment the peacock spreads its wings in your brain and keep it in your memory forever. Even after seeing the pets of an owner I know, I can remember what that dog's expression and face were. I think my style is to combine what I see with information and bring it to the canvas.

I think there are many cases where I capture moment-to-moment happy scenes in photographs, but I want to "fix them" on the screen as a picture. As an interior, the family will always be by your side... Is it something like that? I would like to continue working on the theme of always having such memories of happiness in my room.

Have you ever been stuck or wanted to quit your painting career?

When I get stuck on an idea, I often go for a walk. When you go for a walk, look at things in nature, such as the blue sky, flowing clouds, or houseplants displayed in front of the store, and don't focus too much on your stereotypes. It's a training that always impresses you with new things. Sometimes I think it will be difficult to draw this, but when I overcome it and turn it into a painting, I am deeply moved.

I have never wanted to quit my career as a painter. Even if I lose my job, I will continue to draw(laugh)。 After all, love and thoughts for painting are unshakable for life. I will always remember the motifs and models I want to use as the subject of my paintings, and I have a stronger desire than anyone else to cherish them, including the scenery, coast, animals, and human models that I want to draw, and I also have a strong desire to make them a memory that I am satisfied with when I paint them. We would like to provide such things to our customers as well.

Now I wear two pairs of straw sandals, one for a painter and one for work, but once I finish my work, I paint. I enjoy working, but I enjoy it the most when I'm drawing, and I feel like I'm the most aggressive when I'm holding a brush. I'm also able to grow by drawing, so I'm looking forward to that... I guess it's already my life's work.

Do you have a message for those who are aiming for the world of art or those who are just starting out?

Computers andITThe presence of AI is growingNowadays, I think it is very important to create things by hand. Even if you make something calculated and typed out by a computer, it will only be boring. On the other hand, the taste of the food you make yourself, the piano playing when you play your own music, and your own inspiration when holding a paintbrush or pencil come from while making and drawing, so I hope you don't forget to make things by hand.
