Before joining PEOPLE, Colson worked as a writer for a number of publications in Des Moines, including CITYVIEW Magazine, Little Village Magazine, and Iowa Public Radio. He also worked as a communications intern at Des Moines Performing Arts.

Colson served as a first-year assistant editor and business & PR director for his campus lifestyle magazine, Drake Mag, at Drake University, Des Moines.
