Foreclosure activity in the U.S. is rising again, and the data backs it up. In Q3 2025, more than 101,000 properties received foreclosure filings, which marks roughly a 17% jump from the same period last year. Early-year data shows a similar trend, with more than 140,000 households starting the foreclosure process in the first half of 2025 alone. Monthly numbers reflect the same pattern; for example, October saw over 25,000 foreclosure starts, up about 20% year-over-year. When you scale these figures across roughly 132 million U.S. households, it suggests that around 200,000 to 300,000 households a year are now entering foreclosure.
