I haven't been to P&a Express in a while. I kind of like their Kung Pao chicken. If I order it "extra spicy" it usually tastes like something, if that makes sense.
The problem may be me. Earlier I put a tablespoon of crushed red pepper flakes in a bowl of beans and rice, and covered that in sriracha, and barely tasted anything. Eating was a joyless mechanical act devoid of pleasure. It is difficult to describe. I could perceive the salt, the vinegar in the sriracha sauce, and so on. But it barely tasted like anything at all. Sometimes I get stupidly unhealthy snack foods, which I know I should not eat, and fur most of this year I can taste the salt in them and not much else, even when they're supposedly "ghost pepper" flavored. Are the nerve endings in my mouth all burnt out? I feel like I can taste less and less.
