BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA has pledged not to occupy the Moon or other celestial bodies, writes N1 .
This is part of the document that was ratified yesterday at the session of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly in Sarajevo.
This is the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of Countries in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.
"The rules for using space resources could wait, at least until the rules for earthly resources are settled," Mirko Šarović, a representative of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, told Radio Free Europe (RSE).
What did they commit to?
Among other things, BiH commits through the treaty not to use nuclear weapons in space.
The treaty states that space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation based on claims to sovereignty, through use or occupation, or by any other means.
It is an international agreement, and some parliamentarians say that it is not really a priority. One of them is MP Šemsudin Mehmedović, from the Democratic Action Party (SDA).
"While the country is losing a huge number of residents, we are sending the freshest workforce to Europe, we are dealing with space problems that absolutely do not concern us, but, well, it must be harmonized with some European principles," says Mehmedović.
