Has anyone tried this game? could a smooth brained person like me enjoy it? I found Dominions and Conquest of Elysium too much menuing and strategy for my taste

I tried it, it unfortunately somewhat sucks.
The elves are the worst faction, which pains me as an elf-fag. Just a really bad starting position, sandwiched between two strong factions, and your units are awful and need a lot of experience to get going.
Kinda fun for a while, especially if you like just seeing stuff happening and how the factions fight each other (with you taking part). There sure is not much depth overall, but I guess that's point of this arcady TW-like.

>elf are the worst
Fuck, guess i will go humanfag or try the mercenary mode, i admit i just like the flashy visuals of two big squads duking it out
>>
>>2212626
Yeah, in my experience, especially the lizards next to you are a huge problem that you just can't solve, and if that wasn't enough, the real north of you also has a hateboner for elves, waiting for an opportunity to attack.
The elf archers can be strong, but you need levels to unlock that wind spell for a lack of a meatshield. You apparently can do something with mushrooms, never really got used to them.
Playing that mustache elf, my realm was crushed, turned into a mercenary, which was somewhat fun. Fighting in whatever battle and making sure my archers survived to level them up (easier when a ranged unit). World eventually turned into a stalemate between three great powers. The demons to the right never made a move, for some reason.
Apparently, there are quests? And story lines? Weird game.

>The elves are the worst
They're very strong, but they do start next to a counter
You need to use the mushroom man vs the lizards' first attack, once you get past that you're mostly clear with xp advantage, and once you've taken out the empire you can grab their fire mages who slaughter liggers as long as they're not caught out
>>
Too many elf lovers here, are the other factions THAT uninteresting?
>>
>>2212820
The empire is literally the MC faction of the game and has an entire separate storyline based on your empire crumbling, but only in a specific way
>>
>>2212820
They have dwarves, musket humans, noble humans, imperial humans, criminals, arabs, dog people, frogs, dragon riding humans, demons and wood elves
>>
>>2212572
elves get a speed bonus in the woods while everyone else gets a malus, you're meant to kite with the elves. the mushroom guy is very valuable as well but there is only one of him, your swordsman use their wind magic to keep the enemy away from your backline that pelts them with arrows. like that faggot said once you get enough exp for your troops they can handle most things easily. imo dwarves at least at the very start when the empire attacks have a way worse time than elves do.

You probably would like it. The menus are a bit annoying, but once you get used to it they're just a little bit of busy work. I've been pretty addicted to it lately. For some reason they "updated" all of the VN backgrounds to ai shit though.
>>
Honestly it's peak but it's very overwhelming imo, the UI is awful.
>>
lizard regen is fucking peak.

Yeah, it's not too difficult of a game. I don't know if the other campaigns are substantially different than Reinald, but you really only have to put serious thought into the first half of the game at worst. Then you'll snowball so incredibly quickly you can turn your brain off.

I agree, but Reinald is really far on the easy side, while the Elves and the Dwarves are really far on the hard side. Also, some campaigns end with boss encounters that will probably require you to rejig your squads.

Elves are fine, just a bit tricky to get going since they start close to their natural counter. You want to focus down the empire first so you can recruit their fire mages to deal with the lizards.

Is this guy and the full backstory explained in Chronicles or anywhere?

Yeah I played it as the lizardmen. They have a very limited troop roster and hero roster which made it a challenge but it was fun trying to manoeuvre troops to try and get terrain advantage. The plus side is that I think they're infantry is straight up the best. Managed to kill the demons.

But it's pretty simple. I tried playing another faction but it was too samey.
>>
>>2245053
The chronicles(at least the ones translated to English) haven't covered this guy yet if they will at all.
>>
Been a while since I've played so bear with me for not remembering the names. The anime protag human dude with the guns and furry GF in the northwest is definitely the strongest faction. I really enjoyed playing the special story-ish mode where you play as the brat princess's guardian and escape your country after it falls.
I tried to do the desert guy campaign and it was brutal, even though I expanded really rapidly at first. but maybe I'll give it another try some day. I think you have to basically pray for the musket guys to collapse before they reach your borders, but I felt like I was falling behind the entire time.
Frogs were very fun and strong, too.
>>
>>2250424
>desert guy
Doesn't help that their units are fucking horrible outside desert terrain.
>>
>>2250436
I think their main units were land healers & desert cavalry? basically all of my fights were micromanaging the desert cavalry for kiting enemies to minimize casualties. and there was no one to recruit; almost as bad as the lizardmen in that way.
>>
Oh yeah and the sailor girl character with the wave attack? pure unadulterated bullshit

bros pls help it's stuck for over a week
>>
>>2250424
I don't really remember what I did, but I think baiting enemies into the desert to then kite with horse archers should work against some factions.
>>
>>2252043
the issue is that you eventually have to expand outside of the desert.
