can i ask what ‘brain sex’ is? i have a weird knack for staying under a rock so i dont know a lot about drama or whater transmeds are classified as (hate group? dickholes?)
Its only sort of a trans med thing. But the idea is that there is a distinct female brain and a distinct male brain, and gender dysphoria is caused by a female brain exiting within an assigned male at birth person, or a male brain existing within an assigned female at birth person.
Gender and sex are a lot more complicated than that, though. Humans also just. Aren't very sexually dimorphic compared to literally almost any species on earth, even among great apes. That's why gender transition is often so successful. You can virtually completely rewire and change the human body by introducing it to a new hormonal norm.
The "brain sex" idea is an old idea based on old, incomplete and misinformed science. There is no where you can point to in the brain and say "this is what makes this a male/female brain." Brain chemistry changes based on the hormones in your body but that can change based on age, circumstance, diet, medication, and it can be heavily altered with hormone based therapy.
honestly reading the Neil Gaiman piece on Vulture I was just thinking about Bojack Horseman the whole time. like. he's got trauma and whatever else, maybe he even convinced himself it was all consensual, but at the end of the day he's empowered by a larger system to do this type of shit & it will always be easier to not change, to not grow, and to just indulge your worst possible impulses over and over again. because everyone around you wants you to do that. they want to enable you. they want you to either get away with it so they don't have to face consequences by extension, or they want you to do it so you're as bad as they are and you're less likely to challenge them when they do it.
Like no, he's not a monster; he's a human person who knew better but chose worse anyway. I don't totally believe he knew exactly what he was doing, or that he's doing it to maintain some kind of rich vs. poor, powerful vs. powerless dynamic.
I think he's a man with childhood trauma who has been told that he should not heal, he should not change, he should not challenge the system, and in fact it is better that he participate in it. That he can take the easy way out (not that it'll ever actually lead him anywhere close to "out"), and he should, and it'll be easy, and everyone around him will enable and protect him if he does. That if he decides to fight for real healing and real growth instead, he will have to fight hard against everything and everyone around him, and he will be alone in that fight.
That's the wrong choice. He's responsible for all of the hurt he caused every single time he made it. He deserves no sympathy from fucking anyone for any of it. The only way out is through, and that means facing all of the full consequences of his many, many fucked up and horrible choices.
And I think we need to reckon with the system that makes the horrible shit Gaiman did feel like the easiest option, or we're not gonna get anywhere.
thinking more on this and I think what it's solidifying for me is that it's not about "justified" or "understandable". it's not about whether Gaiman or any other person had a "good reason", because no reason makes this type of shit okay.
but it can be easier or harder. we can talk about how much harder it might have been for Gaiman to make the right choices here, and we can acknowledge that it being hard to actually change and grow isn't an excuse for any kind of harm, let alone harm on the scale he caused.
I think a lot of folks reason to themselves & others that because it was hard for them to make a better choice than the one they did, they should be excused for making the easy one. I think oftentimes, we do it without even noticing it. I see a lot of people resist growth and healing because it's hard work, and they feel they've suffered enough by now that they shouldn't have to do hard things anymore. it's an injustice. their suffering frees them from making hard choices, and it isn't their fault they're never going to heal- it isn't their fault they keep hurting people- because someone else made this mess, and they can't be expected to do the hard work of cleaning it up. not when they're already suffering so much!
usually it isn't this bad, or on this scale, and often it isn't reinforced and encouraged and protected by a whole system motivated to perpetuate this exact kind of harm. but I do think it's worth keeping in mind, as one very small lesson in this larger horrible mess, that the harder choice is actually usually the right one. and that's kind of by design.
I think if we're comparing this to Bojack something else that is important to remember what the show ends on. It doesn't end on the character dying in a sad shit pathetic way. It ends on Bojack facing the music, and then trying to get better. He will never be favoured in the public eye again (nor, perhaps, should he) but he is healing. He is growing. No matter what a person does or how bad it gets, it's always a good thing for that person to try and be better.
I think in our modern world it's important to remember that, for this case and for others.

crimsonenderReblogged nothorsesbeemovieeroticaFollowi don't really want to see this retconning of neil gaiman's writing where people are re-analyzing stories like "look...you can see the message under the surface...showing how he was actually abusive IRL...it's all there..." idk maybe we should just listen to people when they speak up and say they were abused and try to foster a culture of respecting victims and actually enforcing justice against perpetrators instead of doing this weird fucking da vinci code-esque picking apart of his stories. stories which everyone was fine with for decades!! because we understand that the content that people write and produce does not have a 1 to 1 correlation with their real world actions!!!i fully support people who cannot engage with his work anymore and i do think that because he's a still-living person it's imperative to not give this guy another cent, but we cannot pretend that everyone was just "too dumb" to see the secret clues and turn this into another case of "what you write is what you endorse." plenty of dogshit people write good stories. plenty of good people write dark stories. that's all.crimsonenderYep. If people really think that fiction and reality can be seperate then not only can good people right monstrous things, monstrous people can write good things. 1988,57612,871

crimsonenderReblogged encyclopediamorbidicaalastaircarstairsdefenselawyerFollowthis is your daily reminder that it's been over 65 years since cuba overthrew batista's US-backed fascist dictatorship and the US is STILL keeping cuba in extreme poverty using an "embargo." back in the 1950s, using US funds and US-trained soldiers, batista (not castro) removed most of cubans' rights, including the right to strike, censored all media, and used secret police to torture and publicly excute anyone who protested his dictatorship. In a document released by the CIA in 2005, it stated as many as 20,000 people were killed. In return, batista gave control of most of the arable land to the US. during the revolution, this land was reclaimed and redistributed, which means that USAmericans can now sue anyone who "traffics" in this "confiscated" property. Despite US sanctions being an "embargo," the US also fines foreign companies for doing business in Cuba, meaning it's effectively a blockade. Despite Obama lightening some of these restrictions, Biden has done little to undo the tightened policies from Trump's administration. In November, the UN called for the 31st time (!!!) for the US blockade to end, supported by 187 countries and opposed only by the US and its bestest buddy (I'll let you guess who). Cuba has been in economic crisis for years. Monthly income in Cuba is $30-60. There is very little food and it is hard to purchase anything like toiletries, clothes, and over-the-counter medicines. Domestic production is down because they don't have the resources to sustain them. The US has been intentionally impoverishing and starving Cuba for decades, and they continue to make it clear that it is not going to stop. So, yeah. US democracy is a joke, end the US blockade on Cuba, and fuck genocide joe. 63,4152,739

crimsonenderRebloggedbilliebell495-deactivated202510lumitoffee asked:who is patricia taxxon?billiebell495-deactivated202510 answered:So Patricia Taxxon is a YouTuber who made a name for herself by making music and music theory videos. She's collaberated with several prominent YouTubers over the years who quite frankly don't deserve to be dragged into this so I'm not gonna name them, but some big name people who you can easily look up. I have never really paid that much attention to her beyond saying "oh that's kind of an interesting concept" or "oh she provided some nice insight for this video". More recently though it's come to light that has engaged in a lot of really disturbing behaviors over the time that she's been online. Now a lot of this stuff is only allegations and there isn't hard evidence for, so honestly, disturbing as some of the stuff may be, it's really not as pertinent to the present conversation. For stuff that has been going on more publically, she's made all of these statements about mental health and treatment for serious issues (POCD, pedophillia, OCD) and she seems to just believe "oh you should just accept this about yourself and drawing child porn is a valid way of coping POCD" when that really isn't a way to handle these things, and people have called her out for this because that's, like, really really dangerous and harmful.Beyond that, she's also more recently started making really bad and harmful statements about transgender men. Basically denying or downplaying the oppression that trans men face. Here's a doc going over most of the pertinent stuff that was prepared as Crim's latest livestream on the topic. Patricia Taxxon Document(Screenshots and articles provided under heading 5 and 6.) Introduction and Intent Note that we can only speak of events in terms of allegatGoogle DocsthetepesId also like to add, as someone who's been covering her, there is hard evidence for a few things that simply can't be shown. We have proof of the cub art that was drawn for her, we have proof she sent porn to a server full of minors, we have proof she posted nudes at random multiple times on her main account, but we can't just carelessly post these things and in some cases the victim has been asked to be left out of it. There's only so much we can do, say, and show respectfully. I've posted what I can of these things and testimony, but that's all I can do. crimsonenderNo, she said that drawing child porn is a good way to cope with pedophillia. I feel like that's an important clarification.532
crimsonenderRebloggedthetepesFollowReally, how do you want us to discuss her very open and blatant bullshit? I'm very literally not allowed to. I don't feel like I can discuss half the shit she does that's fucked up because I'd spend half my fucking time arguing with insecure people about how "No, diapershitter3000, not all adult babies are freaks, kink is valid." over talking about how she wants to roleplay as a child during sex with her dad and how role reversal pedophilia fantasy is a real and dangerous thing.Just like I said on the stream, she's mixing kink on purpose. She's mixing therapy speak on purpose. She's using it as a shield and as obfuscation because you're all so fucking obsessed with discourse you're letting a person who's admitted to grooming a minor use your inability to be confrontational and your progressivism to her advantage. That's what these types of predators do. That's why there's so fucking many of them. That's why no one says anything. Then I get shitty little snippy comments about how I don't focus on her sexcapades with children enough. I fucking can't, bro. I've come out and said it blatantly multiple times and all I've gotten is it's just fantasy and kink and it was years ago so it doesn't matter now enough times to genuinely make me question if it's even worth putting myself through this as a victim of csa.I did my fucking part, I can't make other people look at it. 931
