How to play audio at over 4x speed?

Post by HyperBear »

Celluloid and mpv mute the audio at over 4x speed. Is there any way to increase the limit? I am sure almost every computer from the last 15 years can process more than that.

Funnily, the Android version of mpv, mpv-android has a higher limitation: 6x.

There seems to be an mpv setting for that, see https://mpv.io/manual/master/#audio-filters-scaletempo2[. Haven't tried this myself.

Some distros change defaults for some programs in their repos. For example the mpv default for video hardware decoding is actually disabled. This is done for compatibility with a wider variety of codecs and also because more modern cpus don't actually need it like they did 20=25 years ago. But in Ubuntu it comes enabled.
