A video of Masaki Kanai (金井正彰), director-general of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bowing to Liu Jinsong (刘劲松), director-general of the Department of Asian Affairs of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as they were leaving the Chinese ministry after their meeting there on Nov 18 has gone viral on Chinese social media.
The video shows Liu donning a Zhongshan suit and talking down to Kanai with a stern gaze while keeping his hands in his pockets, presenting to viewers an image of Japan being humiliated and China “proudly” achieving a victory.
*** But if you look closely, Kanai was actually lowering his head to pay attention to what the interpreter was saying.
The video was released by Yuyuantantian (玉渊谭天), a social media account affiliated with CCP-owned China Media Group.
