I'm starting to hate software even though I'm a senior in college for CS. It's literally beneath me. I have no clue what else I could do. What should I pivot into?

I got into software early, but it doesn't click right away for everyone. Stick with it. Plus, there will be plenty of highly paid work waiting for you when you graduate.

Work with it enough that you can do management. Or pivot into embedded programming maybe. Robotics and so on.

Yep
There was a time my PC would boot in less than 10 seconds into the desktop after pressing the fucking power button, now that's just a fantasy, a fucking mirage.
>>
>>107239535
Oh and that's with fast startup disabled I should mention. Because I know it's inevitable, everyone says "well you can do that if you use fast startup!"

>If you just enable "don't be shit" then it won't be shit
Why is this setting even needed?
>>
>>107239557
Yes, there was a script going around years ago that would time how long it took for Windows to restart, it took a bit under 13 seconds on the PC I recorded the video on, just booting took a lot less.

Forgot to mention, this should be your last option.
First try updating the BIOS, update all drivers, reseat the RAM and then do a fresh install of your OS. If all these fail then try testing the RAM. Because if it's a software issue then even if you get new RAM it'll happen still.

Me again, I think I solved it. Lots of Googling turned up empty (as always) but one stray comment somewhere said to unplug the microphone in light of Realtek Audio claiming that "An audio stream is currently in use." Disturbing, as the microphone was switched off. I unplugged, rebooted for good measure, and now the screen dims when its told to!

For now at least. That was last night and as I check again, "An audio stream is currently in use." is back despite the microphone remaining unplugged, so I'm guessing that's the speakers. Still annoying and I don't even have any videos open either.

Because it's actually HDWUXGA+ or whatever VESA calls it. 2k is a cinematic projector standard not a PC display standard. PC displays are designed to be whole fractions of older PC displays.

I've heard that smaller capacity HDDs (in the 1-4 terabyte range) are more reliable and less prone to failure than the biggers ones. Is this true?

Joe is a good friend of mine. He looks great for someone his age. Very physically fit. I know I look fine and don't need to improve anything, by the way. Me and Joe just have different builds because we have different genes.
>>
>>107239369
There are different ways of defining intelligence, for sure. I have quite a few of them. To be like me, you need a brain for both big tech and big business, and a lot of tech entrepreneurs just aren't made of the right stuff.
>>
>>107238996
>it le needs more power
human brain needs 20W and fits into a bowling ball, with only necessary fuel being commonly available sugar.
If we had any intelligence here, first thing to do would be to make AI efficient.

I did volunteer translations for fedora and ubuntu for a short while and most of the platforms are complete shit (or at least they were 10 years ago), so you get to translate a single word or short sentences without any context whatsoever, which makes it nearly impossible to translate correctly into some languages. like, is "left" the direction, the meaning of "remaining" or meaning "exited, left [the room]"?
it's the main reason why I stopped doing it

I'm ashamed to say this but... McDonald's has become my favorite place to visit aside from the gym. It's a nice, short trip that gets me out of the house frequently to get coffee or a muffin. Coffee is amazing, and cheap (I don't eat their food). The walk is about 30 minutes. No where else to go. Don't care that it's $400 a year I spend on this either. It's a continual happiness and satisfaction. Way better than a $400 tablet or 6-10 meals at a restaurant.

It's also nice they're always open since I'm a night owl.

My life is quiet... I focus on my gym reps, my hobby programs, and language learning. Maybe exciting stuff will happen when I motorcycle across Vietnam, maybe not. I'll return here to the same routine. And repeat.

Depends who you're talking to. Stakeholders? Users? Other team members? The complaints are making it to your desk and you're expected to answer them, or just side comments in the office?
>>
>>107239528
All three of them and side comments. I always catch myself right before I go "yeah, I fucking know this tool fucking sucks (holy shit fuck you SAP)." before I switch to "haha....yeah there's quite a learning curve" but it's much less natural then back when I was in IT and with like connection issues I could go like "haha those network gremlins" or something.

Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet + the TrackPoint
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support

Don't do anything THAT important on a computer that can connect to the internet. If you seriously need security at this level, you need to get a second computer without a wifi chip, and you need to pour cement in the ethernet port. Move data on and off it using only optical discs, or flash storage if you're brave.
