I wanted to make paths out of a picture with text.
I havent found anything about that in the software or how to....
Cant it do this?

I saw in
that data visualization is a planned in the project scope of Graphite.
However, I'm curious what is exactly envisioned. For instance, what scope of input data would be supported? Would it only be smaller datasets like 500 rows in a .csv file, or can much larger datasets of millions to billions of events be allowed as inputs?
Is this even the right idea for how the data input would work? I don't know how else Graphite would support manipulating input data, but I'm not very creative.
And if importing input data is how this would work, what file formats would be supported? Would it just be more basic ones like .csv, or would ones like .parquet ones also be supported, even with the requirement for decoding the binary encoded?
Next, what scope of actual data manipulation operations are planned? If my mental image of how the nodes might work is correct, I'd assume one could use a column filter node.
Lastly, how would any of this be implemented? Would all this just involve integrating the polars framework?
I've seen in the last video that already is a desktop app. I was wondering when the app will be able to download. I'm so excited to try it!!
I know in the future Graphite will have powerful raster tools. I was wondering if edition tools will be prioritized over painting tools? (something like Gimp vs Krita)
Are both functionalities planned? In what order?
thanks.
Will there be an option to transform a group of objects relative to their individual centers? For example, Blender allows you to choose the reference point for transforming an object, and if a group of objects is selected, you can also choose to transform relative to each object's individual center.
Hi all,
Thanks for making Graphite.
I am trying to create diagrams for a vector calculus class and was wondering if there was support for "arrows" like in Inkscape, where one draws a line and selects the arrow end-points from the stroke tool.
Also is there any way to write plug-ins, for example to generate an svg of a surface viewed from a particular? Or is it better etiquette to create such svgs using a package like Haskell's diagrams?
Best,
Vatsa
Adobe bought Macromedia to get Flash and got all the Macromedia apps with the deal, including Freehand and .
While Freehand was direct competitor to Illustrator, Fireworks was Macromedia's answer to Photoshop. Eventually FW (version CS6) was discontinued somewhere 2012 which was a major crush for the dedicated community.
Since then, there has not been a single app that could capture the things that FW did, especially handling vectors and rasters in the same space (Lets not talk about Photoshop). FW was intended to be a design app for graphic web design, but extended its reach to UX design (as the UX industry was born). Adobe being Adobe, it decided to shutdown FW and continued with a new app XD that was purely for UX design.
Im new to Graphite and this app looks fine and has endless potential. This app has something similar with FW, so Im wondering if there are any former FW users around here?
I don't know what i have done, I've been playing around with graphite in chrome on my pc and all of a sudden my artboard doesn't show up, infinite canvas doesn't seem to work either. I tried opening it up in windows edge and it works fine. Open it in chrome on my phone and it also works. Any idea what I have done wrong on the PC?
Sorry, maybe I'm doing something totally wrong here, but I really don't get how rotation works in Graphite, esp. with the Transform node.
Without Transform node, the rotation works as expected:
I create a line with the line tool.
I switch back to the select tool, keeping my line selected
I make sure that "Custom pivot" is select in the toolbar above
I press R to rotate and rotate the line, the rotation happens around the center of gravity of the line. Perfect!
Whenever I try to use a Transform instead (even the Transform that is created by the action I performed above!) it gets really weird!
Following the instructions above, I have a transform node in my properties (I could have added this in the node graph myself, too)
Making sure, I have still "Custom Pivot" selected in my toolbar above the viewport, I play with the rotation slider in the Transform node
The line is suddenly rotating around a weird rotation point, which is located at the coordinates of the translation of the Transform. So other than with pressing R, the Transform node now seem to use another order to apply the transformation, completely ignoring the Custom Pivot
Random Questions, because I'm confused:
Can I control (a.k.a move) the rotation origin of a Transform node?
Can I switch between World- and Local Space when using a Transform node?
Can I control in which order a Transform node applies the translation, rotation, scale?
Graphite is looking very promissing, but I don't like WebApps and I use bazzite 42 (Linux). Can I hope to get my hands on Graphite in a not too far future, or are you focusing on Windows/Mac first and only?
I'm trying to create an effect similar to the Voxelize Duplicator seen in Cavalry, and specifically this video
Basically one image is used as a tile repeated on a different image.
Can anyone help me to do this as I can't find any tutorials for graphite
So, I tried out Graphite, and to test the app, I made this little fish. It's my first work in Graphite. It crashed a couple of times and was laggy, but I had a lot of apps running at that moment, so maybe it's more of my fault. But the tools were pretty great and easy to use. Thanks, Graphite, for this awesome app!
Can Graphite process a data file, JSON, CSV, Binary, etc, and then drive graphics, charts, or data visualizations from it?
Can it do D3.JS type stuff?
Hi,
Your editor is very interesting. But I have to tell you that it doesn't import .ai files. From the Firefox developer console, I only received this message:
Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: An attempt was made to use an object that is not, or is no longer, usable.
Bye!
When a boolean is toggled false, all I can get out of it is the string "false", with no way to convert it it to an integer 0 or 1. This means that I can't use booleans to change any parameters which are controlled by numbers. This is sad, because I want to do that. Am I missing anything?
Also, will we eventually be able to set a layer's visibility using node inputs?
Lastly (I'm sure you've already thought of this) do you ever plan on adding keyboard inputs to the node graph? Graphite already feels so much like a game engine, I can't help but wonder...
I just got into Graphite today and am trying to experiment with node-based setups. I was wondering if there's any documentation yet on each node, what it does, etc.
I'm doing my best to pick it up from the included example files, but I'm getting stuck. Like why is the Blend node complaining about receiving Option<Color> instead of Color? Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree for what the Blend node is -- I was trying to find the equivalent of a Color Mix node.
If so, how?
Thanks
I'm a n0ob, and kind of reddit dumb. My search didn't return anything. I am trying to join up shapes and then punch another one out them ... but they just go into a layer folder (or something that looks like one called "Boolean Operation"). So far, i cannot make the first Boolean solid enough to perform a new boolean on the result. I've been out of the graphics 'game' a long time, please forgive an elderly 'dog' looking for one of his oldest 'tricks'!
One of the things I liked about Corel Draw, compared to Illustrator, was that the marquee selection would select only objects enclosed, rather than touched. It could, by a modifier key, also select objects touched, which is how it's done in Illustrator.
The result of this one, simple option means that layers are not needed for many drawings. While Corel Draw has layers, I rarely needed them because of this one feature. I could group my objects, then edit within the group without ungrouping, and select what I needed by direct selection or marquee enclosing.
I suggest including this feature in Graphite. Adobe has, as of the last time I checked, and for years, refused to include this in Illustrator, I think for this very reason. They want to force the use of layers, which they believe is the better method. I think users should be given a choice.
Hello, I was impressed with this app. When are they releasing the stand alone app for windows?
I need to map out an A1 sheet, but depending if it's 72 DPI or not, it has different dimensions.
(Also, what's DPI?)
I just discovered Graphite and I'm quite intrigued. I'm watching the Sunshine graphic video on YouTube and I wanted to see if you could have multiple objects funnel into the same node such as, say, a Stroke node so that every entity that shares that node will pick up the same Stroke properties yet otherwise be independent. That's how I expected it to work as it does in any node editor I've used (like Fusion or Max/Maya material editor). It didn't work the way I expected it to. Nodes like Stroke or Transform seem to have one input and one output rather than allowing multiple things to flow into or out of a node.
Am I understanding this wrong or is that something that will come?
Hello, I have two very disparate questions, and apologies for the length of this post.
I am already very interested in this program, and would be happy to donate, but I also know of Inkscape, which is also open source, so what differentiates Graphite from Inkscape? I haven’t found anyone making the comparison yet and I didn’t see anything on the main website. Of course the language is different, but it’s not clear to me if Rust will provide user side benefits via memory safety (except perhaps less crashing, if Inkscape does that). Also, I was under the impression that C++ and Rust performance was largely comparable, and the real differences came from the skill of the programmers.
I should note I’m not a graphic designer, so apologies if most would find this question obvious.
2. Next, I come from the physics community and, in particular, the nuclear and high energy physics world. There, we need to draw what are called Feynman diagrams, which are graphs that represent the history of different particles. However, at least in my opinion, we don’t have truly great software for drawing these. There are programming packages like Tikz-Feynman, but those can often require a ton of fiddling to get right. The best we have for manual construction so far as I know is Jaxodraw and, while it is largely suitable for simpler graphs, it lacks in one key way for me: it cannot attach the end of one edge to the inside of the path of another edge. The only options one has are to attach everything to the grid, which is a fixed size and not very fine (it’s fairly coarse), or manually adjust things, which is beyond tedious. Moreover, the coarseness of the grid means that sometimes it’s just outright impossible to get the Feynman diagrams to look good (by my standards).
Thus, I wanted to ask about the feasibility of implementing the ability to draw these diagrams in Graphite? One would need not just solid lines, dashed lines, but also wavy and winding lines that could form a loop, or follow a Bézier curve. Everything else that would be needed is handled by simple shapes, except TeX integration, but I’m not about to ask for that.
Of course, I don’t want to ask for these features if they come off as bloat to everyone else and cannot be integrated naturally. That actually begs of question of if graphite is meant to be a modular program as well?
‘thanks for your time.
Hi, I just found this project while looking for an alternative to Provector. I am a FabLab educator and I need a good SVG editor for our students to be able to create content for laser cutting or plotting. Provector works fine until it comes to exporting, at which point it becomes horrible.
I played around with your editor and I love it, it simple, I love the non destructive nature of the node approach and the exporting works a charm. What I would love to see is the option to change the measurement unit.
Something like a dropdown to change the unit when you create a new document would be perfect for more technical uses of the software. I saw in the roadmap the mention of CAD-like restrictions and I would guess that when the feature arrives, the measurement units would have been implemented before.
Another issue that Provector has about units is that it exports in pixels, but the DPI or something is off because when you load it in any other SVG editor, it's 75% smaller. I know that in the SVG code of inkscapes exports, it still uses the selected units and doesn't translate it, so I know that SVGs can use unit lengths in the objects parameters.
Anyway I love the project so far and I'll make sure to put it on our other FabLabs' radars. Have a great day!
Like the concept very much.
But looking to see if the same can be used to add other media types like:
3D
video
audio and
live audio and video
VR
Sure would be cool to be able embed this into a tab for inpainting/fixups/segment anything. I'd imagine if you could assign layers to each type of workflow step you're doing, you could make it a viable thing for tablets/ipads.
For example: I create a segment anything layer where I draw where I want a person, 3 walls, a ceiling, a few windows, and a chair. Then, I add a controlnet openpose person sitting on that chair. Then, on top of that, I add a reference image for color. Once all that is done, I take the images that were generated to a few generation layers that can link back to img2img.
While it is nice to have Photopea as an iframe, I've always been more of a host-it-yourself kinda guy.
I recently found out about this app, but the subreddit seems to be inactive.
