I tried to create r/openreddit I tried to create r/openreddit

I had a genius idea about 40 min ago to create a sub where people could post whatever they want, I decided r/openreddit would be the perfect name. After 35 min of creating descriptions, titles, and rules for my new sub I clicked submit... and the sub name is already in use haha

Not only that but it is basically exactly what I intended in my idea haha.

Reddit with no rules!!! Just dont incite violence/ be a dick haha

I was a guest at an SF con on April 1st, and so I was not online all day. I bet I missed a lot of clever webpranks. 2.0. I was a guest at an SF con on April 1st, and so I was not online all day. I bet I missed a lot of clever webpranks. 2.0.

Please don't tell me what I missed, I don't care.

The shuttle driver closed the door on a steampunk who was running to catch the bus. All the elves and pokemons and furries on the bus had a good chuckle.

Team Rocket and the Imperial Stormtroopers laughed hardest of all.

Obama used a meme today. Obama used a meme today.

Obama: 'If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon' http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/23/justice/florida-teen-shooting/index.html

Seems like a thoughtful, original, yet minimal and decent point to make. It's not original though.

"White People, You Will Never Look Suspicious Like Trayvon Martin! by Michael Skolnik

In the past few days, the "Americans think black male teenagers always look suspicious" meme has been spreading - I've heard several African-American mothers talking about having had to warn their sons about it [several shows on NPR, WNYC &c].

Obama was sending a signal by repeating the meme. It's what memes are for, of course.

This is the first OpenReddit self post. You might want to read it. This is the first OpenReddit self post. You might want to read it.

Reddit started as a bunch of links you could vote on. Then comments were added. Many stupid things were posted and said, along with simply brilliant comments on fascinating links. Then we got all official-like, where moderators could delete posts and ban you, and put graphics and bling all over their subreddits.

So it's turned into some kind of forum software. You can have your pony avatar, and some crooked mod can sneak ads in to the sidebar, and some griefers can pretend they're protecting oppressed people.

There's also no longer a place to address $GLOBAL issues, for any value of global. Where would you complain about the reddit ToS [which is terrible, btw]? Where would you bring up any topic that does not already have a subreddit?

Fuck it. This is the place.

This is the ORIGINAL reddit, before the drama, before the modwars, before the Conde Nast takeover.

I expect great and horrible things things from you. You will not disappoint.
