Notice of Class Strike by Teachers' Union

This time, some part-time faculty members who are members of the Tokai University Faculty and Staff Union (Executive Chairman, Shingo Sasaki) have been notified by the university that they will go on strike as a legitimate exercise of their rights based on the Constitution and the Labor Union Act. Despite the fact that Tokai University is responsible for ensuring the maximum educational opportunities for students, we sincerely apologize for the great inconvenience and concern caused to the students, parents/guardians, and everyone involved for the unsuccessful conclusion of the labor-management negotiations in the Tokai University and the resulting situation that affected the classes.

  1. Background of the Strike and Negotiations
The strike is due to the failure of collective bargaining over the union's demand for base wage increases and bonus increases for all faculty members. According to the notice from the union, the scheduled date of the strike is Wednesday, November 26, 2025, and the targeted class is "Advanced Intellectual Property Law 2" at Shonan Campus, which will be held during the 30 minutes before the end of the class period.
Tokai University The "Mere Old Man" carefully explained at the collective bargaining session held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, using relevant laws, university regulations, and the financial situation of Tokai University, including the urgent need to complete the seismic upgrade plan, as well as the results of the personnel cost simulation if the base increase is made as requested. We explained to the union that at this point, the realization of the demands would have a significant financial impact and that it would be difficult for the university administration to meet the union's demands, and we sought their understanding, but we were unable to reach an agreement. Tokai University The Company will continue its dialogue with the union, and will strive to resolve the situation as soon as possible and maintain a stable Academics and Research environment.
  2. Impact on Students and Specific Measures
The university will take appropriate measures to ensure that students (10 students in total) will not be disadvantaged as a result of the strike. Students enrolled in the "Advanced Intellectual Property Law 2" course have already been notified in advance via the student portal site of the possibility of the strike. We will take all possible measures to ensure that there will be no loss of educational content due to the strike.
