.hack//IMOQ: Just finished Infection after killing the final boss, bonus boss, and moving my save to the 2nd game(Mutation). As the first game in the series, it immerses you into its story and world with its early 2000s Internet interface menus and message boards taking you along for the ride through it combat mechanics, leveling, story characters you meet long the way and party gearing. There's alot of bad I can talk about like the constant menuing in later parts of the game, the empty overworld, the lack of difficulty, but as for the first game in the series I think I can look past those things for what the devs were going for .What do you think of the first game and others in the series?

I'm playing this immediately after playing 2 and 1 and the difficulty is pissing me off like nothing in those games. Online discussion seems to barely exist and give shit for party composition and build advice because 'it doesn't matter, it's the easiest one'. That's just not even close to true. My best guess is that people used QR codes to get overpowered starting items that helped them level past the starting bullshit. I'm past where those would be useful but not having them made every encounter a slog so I'm about 4-9 levels behind in the 2nd stratum. Level seems to have a larger impact than anything. The only grinding the first two games have is on the first floor. Feel free to talk about any of the games, I've also already played 5 and plan to play the rest after since Retroachievements never ever.

Varlet: This came out today. I’ve only played a little so far, but it’s like a fusion of Caligula and Monark. I had wanted more of a straightforward Monark sequel, but this seems fine so far. The Masuko score is pretty nice, and the combat has some promise to it. The story is slow-going and hasn’t had a major hook yet, but both Caligulas had meh intro chapters, so I’ll give it a pass for now. For the five or so people like me that really likes Monark, what do you want to see from the game? I’m hoping it ties into the lore and adds more character cameos.

Hey /vrpg/, I have recently illicitly acquired the game 'Avowed'. After playing it for a few days, I have some questions: 1.Why are there so many homos in the Living Land? Everywhere I go I'm always finding a note or listening to a conversation by some homosexual at a disproportionate rate. Is the Dreamscourge turning them all gay or something? 2.Why is there a side-quest about opposing laws against abortion and both your companion and the game throw shade at you for insisting on picking anti-abortion stance which you can only take under the pretext of being a legalistic bootlicker? 3.Why does every single conversation feel like you're talking to HR and completely lacks the 'bite' of POE dialogue? 4. Why does every single female outfit look like it was taken out of Victorian England in a tropical landscape? 5. Why does this game sometimes seem like it's the brainchild of some blue-haired feminist? I know that's a chud meme that probably shouldn't be taken literally, but I can't shake it off.

Elder Scrolls 6 LEAK: Hammerfell (Will not spoil any story details, for now, I know very little as of now.) Bad news first: IF all goes well – Late 2028. Protagonist is a prisoner, implied to be a pirate, on a small prison island near the city of Sentinel. He wakes up during a riot, leaves the island on a boat impersonating a messenger. Arrives by boat at the port of Sentinel at dusk.(big world reveal moment) This is where the tutorial area ends and the game begins. Cities and villages are open. And now to drop a bomb: Most of the small buildings are open. Locked behind load screens are big buildings like palaces, keeps, guild halls, inns etc... This is ongoing work and It's keeping a lot of people awake at night. Massive engine work to make this function. City of Sentinel is 3x the size of Akila City from Starfield but not as dense. As I understand, some space is needed between the open buildings for proper loading and unloading of assets. Level design will help mitigate this as well as other small details like door opening animations. This created numerous issues and one of them is believe it or not... Windows. While inside small buildings you should be able to look through the window, but when you are on the outside from x distance you should be able to see inside, which is a problem and created a lot of discussions and testing about how far should you be from a house too look inside and this also affects the distance of which the assets start to load... and what specific asset type should load. When you come close to a big building with a loading screen you cannot see inside as the asset load is too big and when you are inside what happens when looking through windows?, as the outside world needs to be unloaded. In the end frosted glass is used, in some cases transparent and for buildings with a load screen a parallax interior/exterior is added. Windows cannot be opened, lockpicking windows was considered.

We need your opinion.....: Hello everyone! We are working on a revolutionary concept for a gaming table: a table that builds the terrain in 3D at the touch of a button. Is this something you as gamers really want? Your quick feedback will decide! First, we ask ourselves: Would you buy or use a table that takes care of the entire terrain setup for you? Closely related to this is the question of the “build process”: Would automatic setup take the fun out of your hobby, or would it be a welcome relief? As for features, we want to know: What is the minimum playing surface size that is absolutely necessary? And finally: What is the most important additional feature you would expect? Think about integrated lighting, USB ports, dice trays, or anything else. With regard to the competitive scene, it is important to us to know: Would this table with its perfectly standardized scenarios be interesting for professional tournaments? Thank you very much! Your quick responses are extremely helpful.

Fallout New Vegas Writing: I don't hate Fallout: New Vegas, but sometimes I notice some unnatural lines: "A free woman. It's... been awhile since I've seen a woman who wasn't a slave. I forget myself -are you injured?" Something like “A free woman, are you injured?” would be enough. I already know the Legion enslaves women — show, don’t tell. I get it! I think The Frontier did even worse, but some dialogues in New Vegas are also a bit bad. Still, I like NV’s writing overall. But is afar of being perfect.

Is this game a "rpg": The Final Fantasy series is synonymous with the jrpg genre. The 16th mainline entry has been critiqued as very similar to Devil May Cry and not much of an "RPG" more of an action game. What defines an rpg video game exactly? If it is just leveling up, casting spells, and getting armor and items a lot of other games do that but don't consider themselves rpgs?
R: 77 / I: 18
reccomend SOULFUL jrpgs: hey you guys Im really not sure what I should play next. jrpgs are my favorite genre by far but theres a ton of mid slop mixed in there. Ive played all the FFs, DQs and Star Oceans, as far as tales games go Ive played Symphonia and Eternia which were great but I didnt care for Vesperia for some reason. Im looking for games that are different than the typical jrpg in some fashion, have memorable writing, story characters, good atmosphere and good level design especially. I hate games where every dungeon is the same generic cave filled with dead ends. fun battle system is a plus. also I cant stand SRPGs. games ive played in the last year that I really loved: >Parasite Eve >Vagrant Story >Threads of Fate >Dragon Quest VIII >PM TTYD >Earthbound thanks in advance

Do critical hits stagger? Hello my good buddies, I have read many youtube comments suggesting that critical hits (done with regular sword, greatsword, or bow attacks whilst having the Bladesman, Deep Wounds, or Critical Shot perks, respectively) impart a stagger on the foe -as if you struck them with a power attack or shield bash. I have not been able to replicate this at all in my extensive testing (vanilla Xbox360 version, no patches, no expansions, no mods). Please boot up your own Skyrims to check if your toon is able to stagger on crits with swords/ greatswords/bows whilst having at least one rank in Bladesman/Deep Wounds/Critical Shot. Also, does your toon have the Force without Effort boon from Parthurnax? Report back your results and what version of the game you have installed. Thanks in advance.

Blue Reflection: Finished both the first game and Tie just now and wanted to discuss it. Despite the first game being pretty bare bones gameplay wise and the second one being way too easy with how many ways to get overpowered, I genuinely loved these two games in a way I hadn't felt before in a long time. Great OST, girls are cute, themes of friendship done in a way that doesn't just feel like stale tropes, Tie in particular really was able to capture that feel of summer vacation coming to a close especially I got closer to the end of the game. Wish there was a future for this series but it seems like the mobile game was a gigaflop and Mel Kishida seems like he's moved on. Anyone else have thoughts?

Fallout: Definitive Edition: What do you want to see in the inevitable Fallout remaster (or "remaster")? I'll start with the obvious: >Fallout 2's brute-forced tutorial zone gets multiple play options, letting you test your build of choice. So if you start with a weapon skill, you get an early weapon using said weapon skill. Even for Energy Guns, some sort of weak starting gun, like a Stun Gun or something. And more alternative ways around the guy at the end, i.e. Lockpicking your way around him, blowing up a wall to get past him, so on and so forth. Basically, the tutorial zone should be possible to complete with any three tagged skills, so at most you can have two skills which aren't usable in the tutorial zone. >Merge skills, inspired by Fallout New Vegas. Split Big Guns into Guns (miniguns), Energy Weapons (Gatling Laser, flamethrowers), and Explosives (rocket launcher), Explosives now replaces handling of explosives from Traps and also includes skill with throwing grenades. Disabling mechanical traps goes under Repair. Non-grenade thrown weapons now use Melee Weapons. So Big Guns, Throwing, Traps, all removed. First Aid and Doctor is merged under Medicine, Sneak and Steal under Stealth, but the actions are still separate in the menu, so you have separate uses per day for First Aid and Doctor and obviously you sitll need separate buttons for Steal and Sneak. >Luxury wishlist: Add ammo crafting with Science and possibly Repair. Add repairing weapons. Rebalance useless perks, give something special for the boring "+skill" perks. Let Outdoorsman scale past 100%. Add low tech "guns" like crossbows for early game, and low-tech Energy Weapons (maybe a progression like stun-guns/tasers -> flamers -> high tech laser / plasma / pulse weapons). + Most important of all: Combine Fallout and Fallout 2 in one, if you load your Fallout save there are some choices and consequences in Fallout 2 (i.e. Tandi is #NotMyPresident). Maybe hire MCA for some extra writing

That one monster in your game: > immune to melee > your magic attack is shit > need to spam shit magic attack that miss > no wavemaster for big dick magic damage > wears party down to focus him > kills your whole party while you are busy with other targets fuck Halloween

FACT: There is more opportunity to roleplay in STALKER than in most "roleplaying games"

I’ve never played any of the Avernum games and the 4th one is coming out soon. Are they actually good or just boomer nostalgia bait?

how do you rank the fallout rpgs?: for me it's fallout 1> fallout 2 = fallout new vegas > fallout 3

Fuck archers on the high ground.: Is there a worse srpg gaming gimmick than archers getting fuck you range on the high ground? More often than not, its to your disadvantage. Is there a worse gimmick in srpgs than "start from below, you have to climb and in the meanwhile archers will pester you from afar and you barely have any places to move to protect yourself" maps? Vandal Hearts, Hoshigami, Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem where archers have fuckton range, etc.

Why did RPGs peak in the late 90s? Why is this fucking planet and the human species incapable of producing kino RPGs anymore? We maybe get 1 every couple of years. What the fuck is going on? I've played everything that's worth playing. WHY AM I FORCED TO SCRAPE THE BOTTOM OF THE FUCKING BARREL? WHY THE FUCK AM I PLAYING VAGRUS?

Flight-Plan: Flight-Plan, now defunct, is one of Japan's under-appreciated secrets. They developed the Black/Matrix series, Summon Night series, Eternal Poison, Sacred Blaze, and had their hand in Utawarerumono's battle segments. This thread is for discussion and play of Flight-Plan's catalogue.

Ok what am I doing wrong? Something about this game's combat is not clicking with me but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. No it's not the armor system, I get that your party should go all-in on either physical or magical. No it's not the environmental aspect, I've played DOS1. But I always feel like I'm either not doing enough damage and fights take forever, or I die too easily.

This is the first time I've loved a SaGa game, in fact I think I might be addicted (Balmaint route) I've played RS 1, 2 and 3, Frontier 1 and 2 and Minstrel Song. Out of those MS was the one I kinda liked but really the only thing I liked was glimmering new techs and RS3's commander mode Scarlet Grace is different The town are menus and there are no dungeons, but the battle system is just that great Just thought I'd share, thanks for reading my blog

Elder Scrolls Roleplaying Thread: The year is 5E 12. It's been 19 years since the events of Skyrim (4E 201). The Fourth Era ended in the 208th year. With the Second Great War ending in an Empire victory. The Thalmor are all but extinct. Alduin was defeated. A Dragonborn Emperor sits upon the Ruby Throne. Miraak is defeated. The Fourth Empire restored Talos worship and rallied all borders under one banner. Now, once more, eyes turn toward the continent of Akavir...

I'm finally falling down the old CRPG rabbit hole, and just wanted to know if I'm missing any classics or hidden gems on my Odyssey of a list. I've been wanting to get into the genre for a while now, occasionally picking up games in steam sales that look good. Recently I started playing Baldur's Gate 1. (just got to chapter 5) and I already know I'm hooked. I bought a bunch of games in the Steam Autumn sale, and I'm just looking for any recommendations to add onto it. Mostly for stuff like "Oh, you won't understand this mechanic without seeing it's first implementation in this other game" or "You should probably play this game before that game so you don't get spoiled randomly" or "Skip this one, it's overhyped" So far I've got: Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 Fallout Fallout 2 Icewind Dale Planescape Torment Neverwinter Nights Divinity Original Sin Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Underrail SKALD: Against the Black Priory (this one I never heard about before, but just looked cool) I also see Arcanum for only $6 right now, and I've heard that it belongs on the CRPG mount Rushmore alongside BG1, Fallout, and Planescape Torment. I know it'll take me ages to actually finish these games, but I'm not in any rush at the moment. If it helps with knowing what to recommend, I always play every RPG first time through as a wizard or similar paralell (so, energy weapons, science, repair, and medicine in Fallout)
