/vrpg/ is a place to discuss all types of role-playing video games, including single-player, multi-player, and massively multi-player, turn-based and real-time action, western-style and JRPG.

Does this mean RPGs are banned on other video game boards? No! /vrpg/ is just a separate board specifically focused on RPGs where discussions about your favorite games can thrive.

Please familiarize yourself with the rules and remember to use the spoiler function where appropriate!

Is there any other company that deserved its downfall as hard as Piranha Bytes?
>>
>>3874229 (OP)
Probably, but still a damn shame. I loved the shit out of G1-2, R1 and E1.
>>
>>3874229 (OP)
Much of the company has changed over time, I doubt that anybody from the original team was still there by the time risenslop rolled around.
>>
>>3874229 (OP)
Problem was they kept making the same game over and over again, but budgets, technology involved and fads kept changing. ELEX, for example, has comically bad animations considering the year it came out.
>>
>>3874409
>same game
Worse they made the same game but worse and they didn't even understand why G2 was popular in th first place.

Not releasing PS2 Symphonia or PS3 Vesperia in the west was fucking retarded .

also took them way too long to "remaster" the PS3 games (which are already HD)
Scamco's plan for Tales was always making a gacha with it. Which has failed numerous times.

I want to play a Harvest Moon-esque game. Ideally 3D, doesn't need to have farming or combat. Any recommendations that's not fucking Stardew Valley?

Ironically, the best combat-less Harvest Moon type game that's not Stardew Valley is Doraemon Story of Seasons : Friends of the Great Kingdom. But it has no romance, so it might not be interesting to you. You might want to try Rune Factory 4.

This shit was far better then I expected it to be.
>>
>>3874080
Extremely based game.
>>
>>3863789 (OP)
Rune Factory 4 is probably the best, just in sheer amount of content, especially unique dialogue.
I've been playing My Time at Sandrock and it is pretty good at scratching that itch. The farming is dogshit, and there is this layer of chinese jank that makes some things a bit obtuse. Otherwise it's a competent crafting/social sim. Compared to the SoS games that have been shat out recently it is a 10/10.

this might as well be a bot post. Absolutely brain dead.

its just a bunch of bland hallways the "exploration" in trails is utter dogshit
>>
>>3874359
I'd just dive into the new game. It's the exact same story, just with more modern visuals and gameplay.
>>
>>3874473
Shouldn't I play the original first to appreciate the remake even more?
>>
>>3874474
No just play the remake and ignore the original
>>
>>3874474
You run the risk of getting burnt out, unless you're an autist like Sarahkey. These games are LONG, and there's not much difference between the original and remake story besides a different translation.

No he sucks.

>>3874445
Not yet. I'll need to change every little thing about conversation with feMCs and their male ROs with a romance flagged because that kind of literature is all about the little things. Describing their stance differently, how they look at you, giving more detail about their clothes hugging their skin, the kind of stuff a guy wouldn't notice or give a shit about. I do the same thing for male MC and leona right now. My main plan is to finish the core game and then go back and rewrite feMC romance all in one go since it's a different mood and doesn't sync with the type of writing I need to channel for fights (which are 15x longer than what you see in one run).

yeah this eventually becomes a good way to steal stuff too. Like that lady in the balmora mages guild. You can rob her desk blind, which has a couple Grand Soul Gems too, and she won't even see you because she falls down the stairway and can't see you. I have a save about 100 hours in and she's stuck on the ground floor. Of course, the Silt Strider in Balmora is literally on the ground on the outskirts of the city. But by that time you have better ways to get around.

The true test of player agency isn't how many people you can kill, it's how many you can spare/save
>>
>>3874568
*meticulously uses non-lethal to spare every NSF in the second level, remember we’re police*
*game responds as if you blasted everyone because of an invisible line in the level you did or didn’t cross*
*game gradually phases out non-lethal ammo throughout the later levels because they assume that even pacifist players will go loud halfway through*
>>
>>3874565
No, I didn't imagine it. I'm also not mad, I'd say "bemused". I gathered that you were immurshun focused rather than gameplay focused from the get go.

The influence on Bioware was to flesh out party members more, which bled into PS:T.

There used to be a half decent pastebin of /mon/ games, but it looks like it got deleted/expired. As far as GBC goes, I'd recommend Medarot 3, it's pretty fun and easier than the GBA remake of 2 we got

Aethermancer finally added battle speed settings.
>>
>>3872752
Its a good game and all but I really think they should work more on the core gamefeel rather than keep adding more stuff on top. I dont think anyone really enjoys bumping around alleyways into objects 200 times with a 3 second long battle every 4 steps.

Caves of Qud

It's not so that is fair but don't you find it boring otherwise? Some kind of threat is usually nice in gaming. If I wanted to really explore I would go outside.
>>
>>3874134
>don't you find it boring
Depends on the game, Sable still offers challenges in the form of puzzles and is one of the few games where a lack of combat does work. Even if you're doubtful I would still suggest you give it a try.

Just finished Infection after killing the final boss, bonus boss, and moving my save to the 2nd game(Mutation). As the first game in the series, it immerses you into its story and world with its early 2000s Internet interface menus and message boards taking you along for the ride through it combat mechanics, leveling, story characters you meet long the way and party gearing. There's alot of bad I can talk about like the constant menuing in later parts of the game, the empty overworld, the lack of difficulty, but as for the first game in the series I think I can look past those things for what the devs were going for .What do you think of the first game and others in the series?

Well, i don´t think it was a bad thing back in the day. As i said, it was pretty unique back then and every piece of media served to expand the world, in that sense i don´t think it was a cashgrab either. It made one feel that that world really existed and one was part of it.

Most multimedia projects aren´t like that and contemporary ones are, indeed, just meaningless cashgrabs that don´t really build toward anything. They just keep going forever. Though if we are being honest one could say the same of everything after the original project. At some point they just lost what made the whole thing special.
>>
>>3874583
also before you dive into a dungeon makes sure you are able to kill the stuff on the overworld because once you go down there you can easily get party wiped if you aren't prepared, atleast up top you can run away with a speed scroll and gate out to safety and not lose xp.
>>
>>3874548
You need to accept going in that these games are a fucking slog to get through. Try to pace yourself, its very easy to get burnt out since you have 4 games to get through.
