Everything is already from China, but here we discuss the cheap chink shit you see on various sites.
1st rule of /csg/: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Any suggestions for USB-C power bricks or is the suggestion from guide (just get any Ugreen, Choetech, Baseus or Xiaomi) still the best it gets?

About time to cut yourselfves away from China and start supporting your own local economies.
It's already too late but at least we can slow the downfall and perhaps hit the bottom a little more gently
>>

That's why I'm saying it's already too late, for some thing you simply no longer can find a local equivalent. But do it when you can.

ftr, I do buy the shit you should never buy from ali/temu locally, but local shops don't carry replacement screens for old xiaomeme phones, I'm afraid
>>107172787
everything is thanks to the tariffs, my cunttree's govt had the bright idea of slapping a 35% tax on imports "to incentivize local shopping" but my point still stands, shit bought in bulk sold at 200-300% markup

Be cautious of the flood of fake Beyerdynamics on Ali, they're visually practically indistinguishable until you listen to them or open them up and look at the drivers.

Being 50% or less of MSRP should be an obvious sign but I'm sure some still catch that hook.

Bought this mystery M.2 Artix 7 devboard from ali, "XC7A50T-IO". It's also available in 35T and 200T flavors. I had to pay like $10 for someone to download the developer resources off Baidu Pan which was linked on an image. So far the device works, the docs are not great but adequate, although it's all in chinese. I'd say it's 100% worth it for the price.

>>
>>107173428
really depends on what it is you're buying. best bet is reading some of the reviews.
94.9 is a little low for Ali but not terrible. If other sellers have a comparable price and better rating you can go with them.
>>
>>107173245
>>107173270
is that board just a breakout for the fpga? cause id so the docs for it are available for free on the ayymd website (xilinx was bought by them some time ago). or is that already preprogramed with something, and if so WAT?
and do a touchup on that xo, that shit is wonky as hell, im surprised its not shorting
>>
>>107173449
yeah, the other sellers are a bit better rating-wise but these guys are the only one shipping locally instead of china, which means much, much faster shipping

>>
>>107173471
How much are you spending?
Read the reviews, message the seller if you must, go for it and hope for the best
>>
>>107173461
Mostly breakout over the two 0.3mm FPC connectors yes, but also all the power management stuff needed for PCIe. By dev resources I meant schematics on what pin goes where and how the EEPROM is hooked up, evidently this isn't a board AMD manufactures.

>so i didn't have to wait as long since i get antsy waiting for my stuff to arrive

you're doing this all wrong.

You can share what it is you're ordering but like I said just check the reviews. 94.9 is still quite high for me to think I'm going to get blatantly used or broken shit, my concern would be shitty packaging or unresponsive sellers.

I have the newer VX2 Pro and I'm pretty happy with it
I think the biggest downside of the older models is that you can only set a single charging current for all bays, which isn't an issue unless you're mixing like NiMH and lithium batteries or something
Also I'm pretty sure most XTAR chargers can charge with however many batteries at the same time you want
>>
Speaking of headphones, what are the current recs here? /hpg/ doesn't seem to be a thing anymore and my main gripe with IEMs is that either the tips I get are shit or my ears produce toxic waste for earwax, memory foam lasts me a few weeks at best
I'm not looking for something super fancy, I just want decent enough closed backs; I considered Samson SR850 s but that little grille makes me doubt getting them because I don't want too much sound bleeding out into the air
>>
>>107175587
>I just want decent enough closed backs;
If we're talking /csg/ tier stuff then look for some Superluxes (like HD660[non-pro are "cooler" being a DT770 design ripoff, but I heard Pro version is comfier - non Pro might be a bit tight if you have large head or hairdo], HD662, HD669 or something like ISK HD9999. SR950 for Samson. You might want to get 3rd party earpads for most Superluxes, but ISK and Samson should be fine with stock.

You might also want to look for them locally first as I believe they're taiwan-made so might be cheaper than looking in places like Aliexpress,

they'll break after a year and a half to two years and the pads get pretty filthy so if you like them I'd just order a pack of pad replacements & change them every like 6-12 months and when the headphones break, throw them out and swap for new ones.
The Beyerdynamic Tygr headphones I've tried were very marginally better but less comfortable and like 5 times the price so it was a nobrainer to me

https://ar01.fyeo.io/raw/cOwgmLxvco6qCM-in7DhYljZCVTt6JHae3muWlki4S0

It's a retail disk image of a PNY CS900 SSD (raw drive at /dev/sda catted out).

My question is this: it says "MTBF: 2,000,000 hours" (mean time between failures = 228.3 years) and that can't be right, right? The Asians got it wrong; it should be "2,000,000 minutes", which is 3.805 years. And the warranty for that SSD is about 3 years. I bought it at BestBuy for a stupid price of 45 USD (so 90 USD per terabyte). Pic related.
>>
>compressed 500 GB of data into 649 bytes
Forgot to say: the whole drive was initialized with only binary zeros, so it makes sense that the compression ratio is like 700,000,000

MTBF is calculated by all the hours from all the drives under test/number of failures.
Basically, the 2E6 hours are not consecutive on the same drive but spread out across hundreds or thousands of drives.
>>
>>107176806
It's like a toy with "functionality".

>>107179221
OK, so 2 x 10^6 is in reference to the hours counted up per drive when testing however many drives they put under load. Then, this number seems useless; why not divide it by the number of drives, then you'd get the average or something. (Perhaps I sound ignorant making this post, but whatever.)
>>
>>107178973
it do be like that sometimes
>>
>>107179279
You're conflating mbtf with product lifetime.
Mbtf is a useful figure for enterprise where you might genuinely get millions of cumulative hours across several drives and are concerned about the failure rate. For a steam library? Not as useful.
To be honest even for enterprise it's a bit of a marketing figure and therefore easily massaged. Crib death drives? taken out of the equation. Revisions made to the drive's board and firmware? Not reflected in the original mbtf.
power up and down cycles? nah. Product with a short service life? Just use shitloads of drives to get the hours up.
For a good example of this look up the recent debacle with samsung 980 PRO drives. They had the same 2E6 hour quoted mbtf but a firmware fuckup caused them to brick/readonly after writing like 50tb to them.

I bought an identical set from another brand years ago. Very good for the price and will save your ass when you need some obscure bit.

it's garbage
it's a toy made to look like a tool.

except made to look like real tools
i posted a photo at the beginnig of october how the torx bit melted like butter on first use
the handle is flimsy shit
the tweezers are a joke. complete joke.
the spudgers are shit plastic. you can get standalone set for a few bucks anyways.
the demagnetizer is a dinky little thing. though it does kinda work.
the bits are chinesium
it's good enough to hold up for a one time light use and the people put it away
so they think it's good enough. they post a 4 or 5 star review on ali or amazon.
it's not a real tool.
just a toy made to look like tools and may even function well enough for light use.

Contrary to what you might hear, China is very capable of making good quality shit. They are also capable of making bad quality shit. The difference is in QA. Most Chinese brands don't give a fuck about their quality, as long as the shiny pictures on ali can get them your money. They know their brand is useless and will replace it in a heartbeat.

A brand like iFixit does care about their reputation and about QA. They push the factory to make good shit.

got one of these for my switch 2 and ipad, it's pretty good but all the segments rotate vertically only, and I've seen others online that rotate the last segment horizontally so you can set it sideways on a bedside table
can't complain because it was only $6 anyway, and I could drill a hole on the last segment to screw it from the side and get horizontal rotation but I'm paranoid about destroying it

Was it one of those xingxiang ones or was it a fake sandisk? All my SD cards are from ali, all real samsung and sandisks, and honestly they're so much cheaper that it's worth the very low risk, as there's always reviews showing validrive or h2testw results. Only time I got a junk one was when I got one of those ultra cheap ones with chinese names, and the storage is real just the controller is trash.

it's like you're playing against someone who's holding their hand facing you and you're still losing. don't buy sandian or sansumg, ever. don't buy "xiaomi" or "oneplus" powerbanks. there is literally no need to do this.

If you ever want to buy again, I only buy ones that say they're sandisk ultra or samsung evo plus, never buy the ones with chinese names, and I always look at the reviews with pictures of h2testw or validrive results, but I don't blame you for not wanting to try after getting scammed.

Yet, they are at the forefront of battery chemistry. Panasonic is about all they need to worry about.

Someone that makes torches probably isn't the 'right' direction to look at, either. A little LED isn't a high drain application. Even my 65W LED torch doesn't count. So what does this (cr)app do, that the web browser can't?

Hint: it's not constrained by security restrictions put in place around a browser.

I wonder what the catch could be...

if you're just checking insulation you can just use those basic digital thermometers and point it at the place you're testing for leaks and watch the number change.
unless you're doing this professionally where time is money and you have to do like 30 houses a day you're wasting money getting an actual thermal camera.

My first haul ever directly from Taobao. 3 Hollow Knight figures, a tiny anime cat girl figure, one 20cm gunfu figure with a futuristic P90 and a frieren being eaten by a mimic figure, + one 20cm Marcille figure still on the way. All of this, including the shipping, set me back less than $30. I think it was all around $26 with the shipping. I was really worried I'd get scammed or that they would send something completely different, but so far Taobao has exceeded my expectations. Vetting the sellers and only buying items with real photos in the reviews helped, I guess. Overall, I'd say it's much better than Ali, and it has much lower prices. Shipping is a little faster too. I don't think I'm going to go back to Alishit and their overinflated gaijin prices after this, bros. I'm paying like a real Chinaman from here on out.
