Seriously?

The tl;dr is, once upon a time there was a memetastic webcomic called Perry Bible Fellowship that was moderately popular and known among the sort of person who frequented Something Awful, 4chan, etc., about twenty years back.
Additionally, back around this time, at 4chan, on the /a/nime board, a very popular trolling tactic was to proclaim the clear superiority of Japanese culture and express the wish that you could be Japanese yourself, then sit back and watch those delicious (You)s roll in as a hundred people called you "wapanese." And one of the mods, rumor has it that it was m00t himself, decided to slap on another of 4chan's infamous "funny" (not really) wordfilters. He was browsing /a/, having just read that PBF comic, and decided to set up a wordfilter changing "wapanese" to "weeaboo." Fur the lulz, you see.
...I wasn't actually sure whether you were asking about the webcomic or the origin of the term "weeaboo."
