Fire and Rescue NSW as well as the local Rural Fire Service (RFS) raced to the fire on a property on King George Avenue about lunchtime on Thursday, November 13.
Authorities are investigating whether a spark from machinery could have ignited the blaze which took off in the windy conditions and dry long grass shortly after 1pm.
Firefighters worked together with the landholder to stop the spread of flames and prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby paddocks where horses were being housed.
The Tamworth Regional Council area is under a high fire danger rating on Thursday because of predicted gusty conditions.
The winds have proven a challenge for fire crews this week after a major fire took off at Halls Creek, near Manilla, on Tuesday, November 11.
The bushfire raged out of control along the Halls Creek Road, about 12km east of Manilla with a Watch and Act fire warning issued for residents to leave.
But crews, including water bombers in the air and firefighters on the ground, managed to battle the winds and terrain and got the upper hand about 5 o'clock before the fire warning was downgraded.
The fire scorched more than 125 hectares of property, but no one was injured.
