You are on a higher floor and the distance to ground is much too far to jump. Looking around you, there is a small ledge, as well as a heater - both of which would be very precarious footing. The heater isn't yours, of course, because you're eco-positive.
Looking to your left, a window is open. Peering inside, you are mortified to see the tip of a red flag. A… Nazi could be living in there. Or worse, a Confederate. A chill runs down your spine as you try to identify any more objects in the room, telling yourself that it could just be a Communist flag. But in this America… you're not so sure.
The only other thing you can see is a mug of coffee, which seems rather dark. This doesn't bode well, and you get a creeping feeling that the owner might be a chudcel. But it could also be a Reddit moderator, you comfort yourself.
Turning to the other window adjacent to you, it seems slightly more welcoming. A book is on a desk near the opening, and a lamp. You just hope it isn't a Nazi book like Crime and Punishment. However, the window isn't opened as wide and there's less footing without the heater, so it would be tougher to climb into.
Looking out at the city below, you can scarcely recognize your hometown of Chicago. The hustle and bustle of the big city which once brought you such joy and comfort now seems like the sickening skittering of roaches. The streets are completely unwalkable, any semblance of sidewalk replaced with miles of coiled highway stretching into the shrouded sky. Gothic spires and artificial mountains of immense magnitude creep high above view, and in the center of the sprawl lay a statue of the fearsome Emperor, Donald J. Trump. Even hooked up to advanced life support, Trump was beginning to die, and word had it that his son Barron was taking up most responsibilities in the administration despite Trump still being officially leader. You shuddered at the thought of what Barron would do once he officially comes to power - he might even cut off weapons donation to Israel.
Turning back, you weigh your options carefully. What will you do?
