Continuing Medical Education (CME)

On October 29th 2025, SEGM was notified that the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) is conducting an inquiry into accreditation of the seven modules that comprise the "International Perspectives on Evidence-Based Treatment for Gender Dysphoric Youth" continuing medical education (CME) series. The set of seven modules was initially approved on June 2, 2025, with the following accreditation statement:

This activity had been  planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (WSU) and the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM). WSU is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

WSU also notified SEGM that it had been asked to suspend learner access to the CME modules for the duration of the ACCME inquiry, and that it removed the courses from its CloudCME platform. SEGM is in the process of reviewing our materials to ensure appropriate presentation of this medical education course. In the meantime, the course videos are still available for public access below.

Recent research has prompted significant shifts in international consensus on safe and effective care for gender-dysphoric youth. This series is led by prominent clinical experts and researchers specializing in pediatric gender medicine and related fields. It presents perspectives, research, and clinical experience primarily from Western European countries, providing clinicians with guidance on the benefits, risks, and ethical considerations of medical interventions for gender-dysphoric and gender-questioning youth. The series aims to support informed clinical decision-making that prioritizes patient safety and informed consent.
