Claude Code is getting a lot of attention, though there are other similar terminal coding tools you should try.

While Claude Code offers impressive AI terminal coding experience, it’s not the only one in the game.

I’ve spent weeks testing different terminal-based coding tools, and honestly, some of these alternatives might surprise you.

OpenCode is highly underrated; it was one of those coding assistants I would place in the top tier.

Some of these terminal tools outperform Claude Code in specific areas, such as cost, speed, model variety, or team collaboration.

The tools I’m sharing today offer similar features, although some vary in functionality and operation.

These are all free tools available on GitHub that work similarly to Claude Code; you can check each from the link after the description.

OpenCode is a terminal-based AI assistant built with Go that provides intelligent coding assistance in your terminal.

I found OpenCode good for its flexibility with AI providers. Unlike tools that lock you into specific models, it supports OpenAI, Claude, Gemini
