Advent Design 2025 'Information'

Good Morning Everyone!

Today the countdown begins to the launch of 'The Bakery Bears Advent Calendar 2025'. This is the moment in the year when we give you information about the design for the knit along along that sits at the centre of this years 'Advent Calendar'!! Just like in previous years, 'The Bakery Bears Advent Calendar 2025' will be available in full to Silver, Gold & Platinum Patrons.

You will find details here about the yarn requirements, needles, notions and also the gauge. Gauge isn’t absolutely essential for the design but it’s there in case you want to swatch. I’ve also attached a photo of the yarns I used, you can choose whatever colours YOU want but I know it’s interesting to see my choices.

With regards the colours, you should choose shades that have a good amount of contrast against each other. They will be used in the sequence A to E, so each one should contrast well with its neighbour.

This year I am also revealing what type of design it is!! I’m hoping this will be useful for you when you’re deciding on your colours. I’m hoping too that you’ll be excited to hear what it is!!

  • Design - Shawl

  • Needles - 4mm circular. I began knitting with a 24 inch cable and changed to a longer cable as I worked through. The longest cable I used was a 47 inch but a 40 inch would be long enough.

  • Gauge - 20 stitches x 20 garter ridges (40 rows) in garter stitch (unblocked gauge).

  • Notions - 8 stitch markers (7 lockable and 1 standard), tapestry needle and a small safety pin or lightbulb marker.

  • Yarn - DK weight in the following amounts (the shades I used are also noted) :-

    • Colour A - 200g (Walnut)

    • Colour B - 200g (Silver)

    • Colour C - 100g (Bayleaf)

    • Colour D - 150g (Aran)

    • Colour E - 150g (Thyme)

I used King Cole Merino Blend DK. This comes in 50g balls. The yardage is 113 yards (104m) to 50g. You will have some leftovers with these amounts.

I recommend SOLID yarns, I would not use variegated etc. Tonal would be fine as long as it’s not too variable.

You can use whatever DK yarn you like but I would say that a wool or wool blend would be my recommendation. If wool isn’t your thing then a good quality acrylic would also work...

Thanks Dan, really useful tips. Just wondering if you can add to a YT playlist as it would handy for binge watching Kay's serialised tutorials?

AUTHOR

·

Hi Gillian, we are in the process of creating playlists for all our content here https://www.patreon.com/c/bakerybearspodcast/collections which will give you the same easy access as a YT playlist. When you combine that with the fact that all Kay's serialised tutorials have each episode linked in the Patreon show notes below, in fact all our serialised content is linked in the patreon show notes so hopefully we've got you covered. Best wishes, Dan

·

Thank you Dan. I only discovered how to play your POP videos on YouTube a few months ago. This means I can now watch you on tv, but chat on the phone, because I stream the tv, as shown here, from my phone. Very useful video, thank you.

Hey everyone!

We just wanted to let you know we have become aware today of a spam attack on some of our 'Public' posts. We deleted the 'Spam' comments within minutes of them appearing and we have made a number of our public posts now 'Patron Only' to further protect the community. But if you DO see any replies to any of your comments that ask you to click on a link because you have won a prize, please do not do this.

We have reported the spam to Patreon who are dealing with it right now.

Best wishes everyone!

Dan

·

Thanks! My email isolated it, thank goodness.

·

Thanks for warning everyone. I did get a spam email, but immediately deleted it xx

Hi Katy, so sorry about that. We have been able to add an extra layer of security to things over night which should hopefully alleviate things happening again. Best wishes! Dan
